Fiona Ep. 8 - 1951 Ford F1 Restomod - Extended cab - Roof Corners
Переглядів 11 тис.Рік тому
I try and fabricate the roof corners connecting the main cab to the extended cab addition. I said TRY, because I'm still working on them! Ugh! Trial and error is the name of the game.

Continuing to work on the extended cab filler panels. I fit, tack weld and then completely weld in the front sides of the extended cab filler panels.
Fiona Ep. 6 - 1951 Ford F1 Restomod - Starting the extended cab!

This week I finally move on the cutting the back off the '49 cab and placing the back half of the '51 cab in it's new home. Giving me 11 more inches of space in the F1 cab!
Fiona Ep. 5 - 1951 Ford F1 Restomod - Finish welding the F1 cab to the Explorer floor/firewall.

In this episode I finish welding the F1 cab to the Explorer floorpan/firewall. I fabricated new rocker panels that sit flush with the Explorer floor and filled in all the gaps in between the floor pan and firewall.
Fiona Ep. 4 - 1951 Ford F1 Restomod - Welding in More Filler Panels
Переглядів 3,6 тис.2 роки тому
I continue to weld in the filler panels between the F1 cowl and the Explorer firewall. Got a little sidetracked with a quick garage cleanup, but then I went back to work on welding in a filler panel to connect the Explorer driver's side floorpan to the F1 rocker panel.

I was tired of struggling with the Harbor Freight welder that I had, so I upgraded to a Millermatic 211. The difference is night and day!

While trying to remove my crappy makeshift tube steel support frame, I ended up ruining my new rocker panels! So, I decide to try my hand at making my own.

    Do you still have your truck? Im doing a very similar build right now, I know how much goes into something like this. Just figuring out how to fit the explorer dash, a/c, and wiring back into that little thing is daunting. I hope you are well, thank you for sharing your progress with us.

    So you ended up removing essentially ALL the explorer dash..this is probably where I will end up with my Willys.

  • @murraymadness4674
    @murraymadness4674 Рік тому

    I have a 49 Willys Truck and am putting it on a 97 AWD 5.0 Explorer chassis. I had another rusty cab and tried to fit it and ended up removing everything, and eventually threw it away. So now I'm using another Cab that has full floors and everything. I am very hesitant to cut it all away, where the rusty one was no issue. I tore out most of the Explorer dash, was thinking of using like you were, but essentially it won't work, but I will keep the wiring and refit the dash into the Willys dash (I did this on a 74 Dodge Motorhome I swapped in a 5.9 dodge truck motor and its wiring, I put all the dash gauges into the motorhome dash..) So I've been very interested in seeing how you get it done. The Willys is very narrow compared to the explorer, so I had to cut away all the heater stuff just like you had to. My I suggest less talking and more doing...

    I am about to start mounting a 1950 F-1 on a 2002 Explorer chassis and have watched all of the videos on your other channel numerous times. I was afraid you had abandoned your project when you quit posting videos and was very excited to stumble upon your new channel. However, I was concerned when you mentioned that you were going to remove your other channel, as I am relying on those videos to guide me when I start cutting the Explorer apart late this summer (I have to upgrade the electrical system in my garage before I can weld anything out there). Is there any way to transfer your old videos to your current channel? Thanks for sharing everything you have done thus far. Much appreciated. Al

      I don't think I have the skills or know-how to even attempt making the windows able to roll up & down. I still have to work on creating a seam for the window gasket to fit on, and that's making my brain hurt!

    the side window looks great, ive seen other people doing the cut and but with a cutting wheel. they cut about 2-3 inch at a time tic it then cut 2-3 inch tic. they do that all the way around.

      Yep, that's what I've been doing for the most part. The roof corners were a little more tricky, so I have to cut through all the tack welds and the old sheet metal to get the patch panel to sit flush.

  • @jaymac8664
    @jaymac8664 Рік тому

    Ok I’ll give you some advice that might seem a little backward moving for you but it will simplify your life and frustration. First off you are fighting the teardrop shape from front to rear, this is simplified by actually cutting your back window out splitting the cab in the rear and actually widening the cab to match the angle and keep your panels in a strait line so you don’t go from flat to angled. This will make the side profile look so much better as a finished and painted product. Second your inside bracing is there to stiffen your door latches keep them and keep that rigid. Hope this helps you out and makes sense. Good luck! Oh and for your roof panel go cut the roof out of an old car and graft it in, your new English wheel isn’t big enough to build a roof panel. When you do that keep your welds close to the edge or if you really want to keep the warping out of it look into gluing your roof panel on! Again best of luck man.

    A UA-cam channel named hot rod solutions just did a Studebaker truck extended cab, his bodylines look exactly like yours, if you watch his video series you might see some little things to help you. His door drip rails extensions past the new quarter windows was a huge factor to help center everything. Your doing a great job. 👍👍

    • @goofyfootgarage3343
      @goofyfootgarage3343 Рік тому

      I saw them! But he used a roof & half of the A pillars from a 4-door sedan on his extended cab. That roof also already had a full length drip rail on it. I thought about trying to find a roof skin from an F1 panel truck, but that would be too hard to come by, and I'd really feel bad about cutting up another classic!

  • @doneast6777
    @doneast6777 Рік тому

    Have you thought of extending the drip rail over the new window? Moving the back side of the corner widow will help widen the glass and improve the look for me. 😊 Take a look @make it custom here on YT. Karl is a great teacher.

    • @goofyfootgarage3343
      @goofyfootgarage3343 Рік тому

      I personally don't like the look of having the drip rail continue over the corner windows. I've seen it done both ways and prefer it just being over the door opening. I've watched tons of Make It Kustom's videos. Karl is super talented and makes great tutorial videos.

    hi dave would a roof from a 4 door car from the junk yard work? this YT'er is worth watching too Fitzee's Fabrications his last video has some good tips " Crusty's back! I've thought about using a roof panel from a different car/truck, but I'm not 100% what would work better. I've also watched a lot of Fitzee's videos. He's makes great tutorials and uses mostly basic hand tools most guys already have in their garage.

    Hi, I am building a rear cab for my 1930s Citroen and a couple of tips I would like to pass on, On the English top wheel use a rubber cover like and old innertube this will stop you getting two compound curves in both directions. The other tip would be make or buy a foot pedal for your shrinker stretchers so you can use both hands, I built one myself and it didn't take too long. Enjoying your videos. Cheers Dave
