People who live in Tynemouth & the North East don't pronounce it "Tynemuth" but rather "Tynemowth" Tynemouth like mouth
Pity you cant get into the castle unless you pay by card.
I was not aware of this
Trust a Baliol to choose the wrong side. I am a Descendant of the Baliol's. I might have been very rich if History had been different. Great video. Very interesting
😂 thanks for watching!
Yes a nice viewing of Arnside;; I have a strange request here. Is there any chance someone could film this very fast incoming water as I have been told it is fantastic and it does not look as if I will get there for myself. 💚🙏
I’m not sure what you mean by “fast incoming water”
@@goodforthesoul3050 The siren goes off as the tide flows back in.
@@valwright9871 ah I see! Well I will look into that and revisit Arnside at some point to try to catch it
Richmond is a Breton Castle, to be accurate. Brittany has many impressive fortifications. Alan Rufus had many talents, including being an architect of both secular and sacred buildings such as St Mary’s Abbey York. Geffrei Gaimar implies that Alan the Black was alive in 1100, and this is supported by the date in a late charter of William II. Back to Alan Rufus: both the Bayeux Tapestry and Little Domesday place him in England when Edward ‘the Confessor’ died.
Thank you for the interesting information
Thank you for the history and showing us, in such detail, the castle! 👍🏼
You’re welcome ☺️
Just enjoyed watching this from Kansas City. I keep a picture of Barnard Castle in my office next to a picture of John Balliol. Why? If my history research has been correct over the years, John Balliol and Devorguilla were my 20th great grandparents. Note my name of McPherson. Those roots go back to Kingussie and the Parson of Kingussie thus Mac Pherson aka Son of the Parson. We have a Clan museum in Newtonmore and our Clan castle is in Baddenoch. Can I claim two castles?
Wow!! What a family history!!
Can anyone please share any history records of Dorothy Southworth. I've only Heard the usual from websites. That includes Samlesbury Hall's own website. It's almost like she was just an urban legend?
www.ancestry.co.uk/genealogy/records/dorothy-southworth-24-stj9bj
@@goodforthesoul3050 better than nothing I suppose. But doesn't really state their sauce for historic records. Limited information. Why do certain videos and websites keep giving different father's names?
@@goodforthesoul3050 May I ask what you believe regarding the white lady stories? I personally don't believe in the paranormal. I do think residual energy is possible. But the eyewitness accounts are no way in correlation with what you just sent me. Makes absolutely no sense that Lady Dorothy would be looking for her lost love when apparently she pasted away in France. But somehow made it back to Samlesbury Hall. Hoghton Tower isn't far from Samlesbury Hall. I'm open to evidence. But in my opinion, we are talking about 2 separate women here. Whoever The apparition is. It simply can't be Lady Dorothy
I grew up in Richmond and enjoyed your history of the castle. I have not seen the map you showed before. Would it be possible to get a copy or let me know were I could find it please? This is mainly for a Richmond historic group.
Not wanting to sound negative other than the dog situation, the video of the castle and the town was excellent.
Are you keeping a 100% watch of those dogs running about so that they don’t foul the beach when you are not looking and someone else stands in it?
Of course!!!
I have the Nevills on my ancestry tree.. That's so exciting to me
Your history is wrong , The King at the start of the English civil war was King Charles 1st who was beheaded at whitehall in 1649.Charles 2nd did not rule untill lord protector Oliver Cromwell and then his son had died.
my grt grandad fell off the top of brougham castle when he wss doing his daredevil stuff he used to do, he survived but it stunted his growth thankfully he survived for me to tell you this. my grt grt granddad was jacob thompson who is now burried in askham graveyard. its a beutiful place cumbria especially the surrounding villages and especially askham and lowther estate.
We live in Askham. Will look out for his grave!
Locals pronounce it as 'Rear'. Interesting video
in 1977 i used to live in the castle in a caravan was a archaeological dig that doubled as a hippy commune.
ohhhhhh wr are going up to seaham at Easter, raby Castle has just gone to the top of my list mostly fir the ghosts. I love all things spooky and tend to pick up on things sometimes. fantastic video thanks for sharing, such a beautiful area the north east.
Come back and let us know if you pick up on anything!
@goodforthesoul3050 I will do thank you. there are some fab haunted places in the North east. souter lighthouse is haunted and it certainly felt like I was being watched and not altogether welcome by someone unseen. Will be watching your channel for more ideas where to go!!
Was in Arnside last week - saw the bore, fantastic sight.
Plus when you stood reading about the Pier there is a notice there advising you of such high fast incoming tides.
My last name is Lonsdale. I want my land back !! 😅
🤣😂🤣
My family name, Lowder, is supposed to be a derivation of Lowther. I hope it's so; I'd be proud to be connected to this place.
Something from there followed me home back to were i live a few miles away here in preston.one night alone in my bedroom i was in and out of consciousness drifting asleep .as i tossed and turned to fall into sleep beside me was a woman standing in-between my bed and door dressed in a long night white night gown with long blonde hair down to the bottom of hair back with her back turned away towards me to the door.i froze and screamed in terror and jumped out of bed to turn on the bedroom light . after i slept with the light on for 2 weeks .
Blimey!!
Watching from Chelsea, near Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Just had a walk this afternoon on the beach between the Priory and the Tyne.... it's used by local fishermen and for launching boats.
Not only did her brother kill her fiancée and his 2 friends, he had them hacked to bits. It was vicious.

If you're local you may have heard Brackenbury in connection with the Brackenbury scholarship bequests at Kirby Hill Grammar School. Good video. Barney is a very unpretentious town and long may it remain so.
Raby Castle is a beautiful building and I'd love to visit but as that won't happen now I'm grateful for the visit you made there and I got to see it in all it's glory.

@@goodforthesoul3050 sure ☺
Having read the Witches of Lancaster by Ainsworth originally published in 1849, it is a terrible tale. Not so much the witchcraft, but the horrors inflicted on those women.
I have to say in the research I did I read nothing of horrors inflicted on them. I wonder what Ainsworth’s sources were.
@@goodforthesoul3050 he was quite specific about the tortures inflicted, the incarcerations, the squalor of the conditions... Was it all just Victorian melodrama? Not a clue.
@@brandyjean7015 torture was against the law in England at this particular time but I dare say the conditions in the dungeons were pretty abysmal and there were hints that James Device was treated badly whilst in jail.
