This line shaped creature is fascinating. It looks like it's made out of small rigid parts connected like a chain. It wiggles and slides around moving the direction of the movement as it bumps on certaing things, apparently. Also apparently it kills other protists on touch as it coils its body around the dead cells.

Picked some samples from the nearby foundain. Scooped some grey green spongy goo from the concrete to find a few different protist species and, of course, this line shaped thing I think it's a bacteria. It wrangles itself on stuff and I guess it eats by rubbing itself on it. Using some DIY darkfield microscopy techniques to get the black background.

      @@murilopolese yeah, I built mfm.rocks purely from a place of selfishness. I had heard about the MFM but had no decent linux computer to run it. So I slowly built a similar version of it for the web. And at the same time Dave went full youtube with the T2Tile project, so it's all been a great time connecting with folks who are into this stuff. Is the code available somewhere to copy/paste? I'm trying to follow along, but I think I messed up - my ball hits the right wall, then wraps to the left and starts moving horizontally in a 1x1 up/down zigzag :\

    • @wardrich
      @wardrich 4 роки тому

      @@murilopolese thanks, I'll check it out! I'm really disappointed by the stock software this kit came with... Way too clunky and unstable. I'm hoping the micropython development takes off further as it's also admittedly kinda hard to learn with there being so little out there right now... But I think I'm willing to put in some effort to learn it. Can we connect to the device via SSH or similar, or are we forced to use the Web interface for now?

    • @murilopolese
      @murilopolese 4 роки тому

      wardrich Cool! I don’t believe Kano is going to do any further development on PixelKit and you are absolutely right: the stock firmware is really inadequate. MicroPython is 100% independent of Kano and has a great community and resources. It has a lot tutorials, forums and active community members helping each other. Adafruit has switched their entire line of products to CircuitPython (a compatible fork of MicroPython). On the github.com/murilopolese/pixel32 you can find a list of resources, a getting started and documentation ;) I believe SSH doesn’t make sense if you are not talking about Bash. In this case what you are connecting to is not a Bash session but a MicroPython REPL (Read, Eval, Print and Loop). You can access MicroPython’s REPL through wifi (something called WebREPL) or via serial with an USB cable. I do recommend using the USB cable and there are a few options on how to do that, I listed some on the README file on the github.com/murilopolese/pixelkit-micropython but there are many more.

    • @wardrich
      @wardrich 4 роки тому

      @@murilopolese Thanks! I'll have to check out those resources. The main reason I was wondering about SSH was because the web-based REPL is really clunky. The window itself is quite small, but if I try to resize my browser it says that the window needs to be resized to show. I mean, I guess I could do all the coding in Notepad++ or similar and copy/paste

    • @murilopolese
      @murilopolese 4 роки тому

      @@wardrich It's really important that you understand that what's clunky is the interface I made for the WebREPL and not the WebREPL itself ;) Please do check the resources and you will see a few alternatives to code MicroPython using the USB cable or via wifi!

    do you know if there's a way to program the kano motion sensor using puredata or max for live?

    • @murilopolese
      @murilopolese 6 років тому

      Hey! Yes it's possible! All you have to do is to read the serial data the Motion Sensor sends over serial. It sends the proximity and gesture (if in gesture mode) as a JSON. I tried before and it was tricky for me to connect, read and unpack the serial data on PD but it's definitely possible! You could always start the Virtual Motion Midi and add the virtual midi device as midi input in your PD or Max (or any other software, really). I hope you find out the best solution and if you do something please send a link!!!

    • @murilopolese
      @murilopolese 6 років тому

      Hey! Yes it is possible to program the Motion Sensor using puredata or max for live! You need to basically follow the two steps: 1) Grab the data from Motion Sensor over serial. Motion Sensor will send by default a JSON with the proximity data every 100 milliseconds or so. 2) Transform the proximity value (or gesture if you switched to gesture mode) into something your DAW or any other software, really, will understand. The values for proximity are from 0-255 so mapping it to MIDI is as simple as dividing (and truncating) the values by 2. The first step is fairly complicated to do on PD and Max as you will have to process and parse the string and those environments are more focused on signal processing. The second step is exactly what PD and Max are excellent at! So I believe all you need is something that gets the serial data and transform it into something PD or Max can treat as an input, like MIDI, OSC or even a file on your computer. This is something that might help: github.com/KanoComputing/community-sdk/

      Hello! Unfortunately I don't have circuit diagrams for this and to be honest it's very straight forward, I don't think it's really needed. Maybe you will need to start by getting an esp8266, some servos and go through the examples provided by Arduino Core for esp8266: github.com/esp8266/Arduino (specially the ones in the library "Servo"). I am pretty sure once you've done it, this video and the code will make much more sense :)

  • @TalesHFarias
    @TalesHFarias 11 років тому

    Opa Murilo..obrigado pela resposta! Então eu acredito ter configurado certo o reactivision para enviar os MIDIs, conforme as próprias informações do site do projeto. Qual é o software que você utiliza para fazer esse "loopback"? Valeuuu..abraçooo!

  • @murilopolese
    @murilopolese 11 років тому

    Opa! Fala ae, Tales! No ReacTIVision existe uma configuração que troca o OSC pelo MIDI. No final das contas você terá que fazer um arquivo xml que servirá de dicionário de fiducial para midi. Ou seja, você vai configurar cada ficudial para lançar um sinal midi. Depois disso você vai precisar de um software que faça um "loopback" dos sinais midi pro seu próprio computador. Ele vai funcionar como um driver virtuall: O ReacTIVision vai mandar MIDI pra ele e o Ableton Live captura elas.

  • @TalesHFarias
    @TalesHFarias 11 років тому
