The great train chase of Union Pacific 4014! BONUS: Brief Q&A speech with Ed Dickens. July 11 and 12
Dates: July 11 and 12, 2024
My first time ever seeing the Big Boy in person! Despite the extreme heatwave with temperatures above 110 degrees and the scorching sun, I was still able to catch the 4014 with Heritage Unit 1983 in Oroville, Trowbridge, and Roseville without my IPhone overheating. There is also a small portion of the Q&A speech with Ed Dickens, and the rest of 4014’s crew. Enjoy!

3:42) Oroville Police moving people back from the tracks as many attempt to get closer to the locomotive
3:52) 4014 rocketing by Nicolaus Ave while laying on the whistle and knocking down a green signal in Trowbridge.
4:51) 4014 stopping at the Roseville yard to decouple from the freight train and onto the “Experience the Union Pacific” train, preparing for public display the next day. Shot was taken at Roseville Train Watching Platform, which was extremely crowded.
6:28) A brief nine minute (out of an hour) video of the Q&A announcement with 4014’s driver, Ed Dickens, and the rest of the steam crew.

9:46 A reason the train moves then stops is to get the rear of the train closer and quicker to the crew or crew member (which are likely near the locomotives) that will ride the back of the train.

It actually wasn't rare, it was normally for 2020 cuz of the pandemic
I just thought it was rare since it’s not usually seen here. The shortened train was common at the time, but normally it wouldn’t be led by three locomotives.
The one gate is stuck, just push it up and it is likely to stop the lights and aborted electronic bell sound.
It was actually broken. While I could’ve tried to move it back in place, I didn’t want to risk damaging it further and possibly cause more problems.

It's been a few years have they upgraded signals and removed those classic mini cantilevers or ate they still there?
They’re still there as is. I believe nothing has changed on the crossing since about 2011.
@@teddyguerrero1235 nice It's hard to tell anymore Sometimes upgrades come out of nowhere You'll drive by an old set of signals and next thing you know laying on the side there are the new ones

Why doesnt ace stop at tamien? It literally wouldn't be anything extra since they pass by here anyway?
The Tamien station is owned by Caltrain, so only they stop at the station. ACE trains only pass through there because they store their trains on sidings just south of the station.

Yes. They replaced it a few years ago, but the replacement is already dead and hasn’t been replaced.

Yes, I think they were only four cars due to low ridership. Some of the trains have returned to five cars, but not all of them

In the first and the second clip the trains had the exact same locomotives just in reverse order
What time do they normally pass the station?
Usually between noon and 4:00 P.M., most of the time it’s after the Amtrak Coast Starlight departs.
