      This may be what one of my teachers described as a "black knight" syndrome. It is where we believe on an unconscious level that we need to suffer to find peace, happiness, love, joy, etc.- a "no pain, no gain" kind of logic. Of course, it could be something else.

    The main thing people misinterpret about gratitude and I see you doing it in a way as well: true gratitude never comes from comparison and trying to convince the ego that you have many great things doesn’t really work. It doesn’t need conseptualization or comparison. And doing it many times (aka practicing) doesn’t really help. Gratitude comes naturally as appreciation of aliveness of everything as you feel alive inside. As you become present it’s as if you just arrived to the reality and become amazed by it. By the very ordinary things. It doesn’t take comparison or fear of losing something you already have. Just becoming present in your body. I agree that with shifting our focus we shape our reality, but it isn’t real gratitude ) it can only come from feeling your own aliveness inside and a connection with everything that stems from it 🙌

    •  2 місяці тому

      Thank you for sharing your experience. While I agree that gratitude can come spontaneously from an appreciation of being alive, I disagree that practice and repetition do nothing. Why? Personal experience. Perhaps you must have first experienced the gratitude you are pointing to - which I have - but there is no question in my mind that practicing gratitude helps, and science also bears this out. If you wish to call that something other than gratitude, that is fine, but that is semantics, and I am not that interested in semantics. But practicing gratitude works, and I am sharing it because it has helped me personally, and no one can tell me it didn't. So whether you want to call that gratitude or something else, there is a practice we can do of looking at what we have and being grateful for it that is helpful. However, nothing works for everyone, so it may not help you. Thanks again for sharing your experience! ☮❤🙏🏼

    • @ekaterinadokuchaeva
      @ekaterinadokuchaeva 2 місяці тому

      I have no interest in semantics as well, just wanted to understand further what you mean. Practicing comparison and fear of losing something works for you? I thought you mean shifting focus to positive things works and I completely agree, but people mistake it for gratitude which in its essence is not a mental game and can be described as uncaused joy. It’s not about which things you have and someone maybe don’t. It’s comparison. And ego thrives on comparison. Appreciation of things arise naturally when you become present.

    •  2 місяці тому

      @@ekaterinadokuchaeva I would never tell someone to be afraid of losing something. That is the opposite of what I would encourage someone to do. Gratitude can arise naturally, spontaneously from being present, but it can also be practiced and help us be more present. Comparison is a function of the mind. It can help or hurt us; it is not inherently good or bad. If you are free of comparison, then why compare my use of gratitude with something else? The mind creates comparisons, grateful or not, present or not. In my experience, it's what we do with said comparison that matters. We can use it to feel more love, joy, and connection. Or we can use it to create separation and strengthen the ego. Finally, the ego thrives on taking things for granted, essentially what this talk was about. This talk is about using the practice of gratitude to DIMINISH the ego rather than to encourage it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! ☮❤🙏🏼

    • @ekaterinadokuchaeva
      @ekaterinadokuchaeva 2 місяці тому

      I got it! I just wanted to notice that real gratitude cannot be based on comparison! it’s conceptual game of the mind and gratitude is a higher sensation. If comparing helps someone that’s great but it’s not about gratitude at all 🙃

    • @ekaterinadokuchaeva
      @ekaterinadokuchaeva 2 місяці тому

      If you base your gratitude on comparison doesn’t it mean that someone having it better than you? It won’t take for the ego too long to make that step.. This is why gratitude can only come naturally from the within when you are present and connected. And you can be present in any circumstance. (Depends of the nervous system condition and proper nutrition could help of course). The practice of NOTICING things could be helpful though. Simply notice, without any mental commentary. Following with your attention to the being of the things you have. Giving attention. Comparison isn’t necessary for that.

    “Doctors… God bless them.. they only know what they know” 😂😂😂 Medical industry is truly such a limiting thing.. Business gotta by businessing… Selling poison in grocery stores then selling poison to cover up the damage…ugggh!

    •  2 місяці тому

      Over the years, I have had many students in the "medical industry," including surgeons. Most are good people who genuinely want to help others. They know the system is "broken" but cannot change it. So why are things like this? It comes down to intention. In the United States, where I live, medicine is a for-profit industry, and there is much profit to make. So, some get involved for the wrong reason: to make a lot of money. I remember one conversation I had with a surgical resident about why he became a surgeon, and he said more or less because he wanted to make a lot of money, not because he wanted to heal people. This attitude goes to the top, where hospitals are bought, and medical device companies are formed, with profit being the primary motive, not a concern on how to heal people. Now, one could say the "yoga industry" is also a for-profit industry in the US. But there is so little money in it that generally, only people with genuine interest in the industry's intended purpose get involved. So, the intentions of those in this business are usually more aligned with the industry's purpose (spirituality). And don't get me started on the "industrial food complex." 😂

    it's an interesting discussion - as you point out this distinction that "true faith" is believing something that has no evidence - but that doesn't quite vibe with me. as I have continued to do spiritual practices, i've seen real benefit - and it has drawn me towards beliefs that have might have required faith in the past. Beliefs such as: things are going to work out. That there is something bigger going on here, etc. So does that qualify as faith since i've had to see some benefit to truly believe in it? 🙂

    •  3 місяці тому

      It can be a bit confusing, but in Zen I learned that, "where there is great doubt there is great faith." I contrast this with what I would call "knowing." If I "know" something, it does not require any faith, and there is no doubt. So for me when I have a lot of doubt that is an opportunity for me to practice having faith. Perhaps after repeatedly having faith I eventually get so sure that I "know" everything will work out so that all my doubt is removed, well then I guess you could call that perfect faith or knowing. Make sense?

    I realise many things about myself while typing the comments, some hidden patterns become recognisable when I see putting thoughts into words.) Could you please talk on balance between being and doing next..? I find it hard to do most of the time or sustain motivation even for the inspired actions. I’d like to see your perspective and maybe you have some tools for that. Also, maybe you have some ideas on how to stop performing certain identity amongst people. I know it’s my fawning reflex and it’s easier to isolate myself than experience this identity. I usually get too loud and exited or completely shut down thinking what to say when there are more than two people in a company. I changed drastically during past few years, but when I’m with people my old identity suddenly pops up. It’s too tiring, easier to isolate myself. Thank you

    •  3 місяці тому

      I'm not sure there is a balance between being and doing. We always just are. I think the balance is taking the time to recognize or be aware of it. The balance will depend very much on the individual. And being our true self around others can be a challenge, but it all comes back to awareness. What inside of us drives us to feel we need to behave differently around others than when we are on our own. What do we want from them? Love? Approval? Appreciation? Why do we not feel we deserve these things being ourselves and not putting on an act? I hope this helps.

    Hi Douglas. I listened to your somatic practice. Can you share the steps of somatic awareness of just sitting and acknowledge the different emotions stored in our body?

    •  5 місяців тому

      Sure. Sit and feel without labeling, judging, resisting, or trying to change the sensations. Just let them be and be present with them. Does that make sense?

    I like your class but some peace and quite goes a long way especially in a yin yoga class. Its nice to learn and be lectured to sometimes but not when trying to find stillness. Thank you though for the class.

      Thanks for the feedback, Doug. People are looking for different things in their yoga classes. I've been teaching yoga and Meditation for a quarter of a century now, and if there is one thing I've learned, there is no one right way to teach a class. You may be looking for "peace and quiet," but most people who attend my classes complain when I don't lecture. I am sure you will find many other yin classes online that give you peace and quiet, but I am offering something else, and it's okay if you don't value it. Thank you for stopping by, and many blessings on your journey! ☮❤🙏🏼

      Dont get me wrong I like your classes. Maybe I could have worded that a different way. I actually have done more than a few of your classes and im aware that you post them free of charge so I shouldnt be complaining anyway. Your absolutely right about being different. There is a shortage of good yin classes on youtube so again not knocking you down thank you 🙏@

    The disagreement without the anger/evil person is something I'm still working on. The self evaluation is much better than I ever have been before

      I’d like for my comment to be as meaningful as your video but, I’m at a loss for words. Thanks for the perspective.

    Very helpful. I’ve been clinging to the loss of my dog. I thought I was processing it but your words help me realize that Im choosing which parts to allow in AND there is something I’m avoiding. As soon as you said it, that thing immediately came to mind. All this time I’ve been saying out loud “I’m ready to let this go”. I don’t think I’m actually there yet. I appreciate your gentle guidance. Thank you.

    Hi! Thank You, i love this. Tell me please how many cycles (with holding the breath) do You recomend at once, to start with? As much as i feel ok?

    •  7 місяців тому

      Yes, you could start with 10 cycles and see how you feel. This is a very safe and balanced practice, so it is considered very safe. Hope this helps!

    Hi Doug! This talk really resonated with me. I feel like I am in the middle of an awakening of sorts! I have had a massive eczema breakout, still going on and believe it or not, it has taught me a lot about myself! It is all over my face, hands, legs, making life a bit difficult to say the least. But I also know it is from an underlying issue/s and it has forced me to go deeper and take a look. Some of it death of family and friends, some of it diet and exercise. None of it permanent! Absolutely magical! Thank you for everything you do!

      I am happy to hear you found this talk helpful, Deborah! And yes, an eczema breakout can teach us a lot about ourselves if we are open to the lesson. 😉 Anyway, thank you for sharing your experience with us. 🙏🏼
