Yes, the purpose of his tariffs is supposedly to bring those manufacturing back to USA. Will it work out? Have to wait and see. Its not the 1930s now. With internet, AI, globalism and everything else, tariffs wont work like Econ101.

It doesnt matter where he wants to put them, all tariffs have the same negative effects on the domestic economy. "Dumping" is not the problem people try to make it out to be. Milton Friedman (and a great many other market economists) covers that in his various lectures and videos, and specifically in his piece "In Defense of Dumping." If it's cheaper to produce elsewhere the economy as a whole still benefits from the increase in buying power/abundance of goods. @impeachthestate that is all well and good, and I personally aren't against cheaper prices. There are just knock on effects these days that did not exist in Friedman's days. Like companies moving their tax abroad too. It isn't just about the prices of door handles, it is a lot more complicated than that. But most importantly, you don't like Musk, just say that, don't come with this roundabout story.

It's a hostile nation taking advantage of the open free market of the west while raking in massive profit in order to topple the west. Back in his day, there was simply no trading with the Soviets. Even if I did like him, that wouldn't change that the people he's championing completely disagree(d) with huge portions of his camps economic viewpoints. Indeed, that is exactly what they believe. The engels citations (which as I've been digging is misidenified- it comes from socialism: utopian and scientific, not origin of family, which he posted five thousand times) show that they envision some fairy tale state where it has become the "real representative of the whole of society" - it's the equivalent of saying "having a single global state is the same as having no political borders." Engels goes in that same writing making it way more obvious, which I went and posted and he just said I don't understand and he's not advocating statism

@Patrick-sg7cm indeed. I attempted to explain this to them multiple times as shown. This engagement was exceptionally bizarre because they were SO resistant. It seemed many could not even contemplate that scenario. Usually people will accept it but the rationalized their theft in some other way, but this contained practically no attempt to even rationalize

The propaganda this election cycle is truly astonishing. They used to be more subtle with their hypocritical accusations. Now it seems that is the primary nature of their rhetoric.

It goes to show how the state operates versus how the market operates. If the politicians had their way, central office would be in control of your transportation, as evidenced by their original desire to have all vehicles electronically throttled. The state has a brilliant orwellian way about it where it can impose something which would clearly be dangerous in the name of safety
