This is one of my favorite interpretations ever. I think there will never be any other pianist that can handle this monster like the great (15 YEAR OLD) master Dimitris Sgouros did. This I believe is a divine charisma... I do not own any copyrights for this video. The conductor is Jesús López-Cobos. The orchestra is the distinguised Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. Enjoy

Frédéric Chopin piano concerto no. 2 Pianist: Hüseyin Sermet Conductor: Pablo Heras-Casado I discovered this superb pianist two days ago, when he gave a concert with some fellow artists from the ADAP group (including Cyprien Katsaris and David Lively) at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall. They gave a wonderful performance of some Bach's concerti for piano.

This is absolutely mind blowing coming from a 15 year old. But there are a few parts that are just ridiculous fast and it just kills it. I'll never understand why some pianists insist on playing things lightening fast until it sounds like a circus carnival. Like, it's music, not a technique competition to show off how fast you can play.
A shoutout to the composer for whom without this fantastic interpretation would not have materialized.
Know this piece since 17 years old, bravo !
Unparalleled 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🍾🍾🍾🍾
I'm sorry but just no. Of course he could play all the notes remarkably but where is the musicality? So much lost by being rushed. I think I'd call this a 'let's go as fast as I can and get a standing ovation' performance. Never mind the musicality of the piece. Argerich/Klee is 100 times better than this (as is Weissenberg, Horowitz, Cherkassky etc etc). They have the maturity to make the piece flow properly
Rubinstein and howoritz had another opinion about him...
I wish they had rehearsed this at least once before performing it. Conductor and pianist are playing in separate performances. Also the former could need a supplementary ear : he's the one who is supposed to accompany in critical moments. A shame because the orchestra sounds great and Sgouros, back then, was thrilling.
This performance by Sgouros is so good that it challenges Yunchan Lim's performance of the same piece at the Van Cliburn 2022 final round.
Yunchan Lim is up there with Ashkenazy, Gilels and Kissin; Sgouros is down there with Argerich and Horowitz.
@@EmptyVee00000what do you mean down?

August 30th. 2022 Better late than never, but I found you Mr. Papadopoulos. Thank you for this magnificent performance. 🌷🌷🌷 from Holland.
I hear a genius at work. The young pianist plays highly skilled, original and improvises with the ease of a seasoned top pianist. The sound is really phenomenally clear, the harmonies ring through perfectly and I am surprised time and again by the untamed self-confidence with which he plays this extremely difficult piece. It is a pity that his untamedness causes the orchestra to have trouble following, and the rhythm of the ossia is lost at the end. But what does that matter when it is played this way by a 15-year-old? This recording is in the top tier of versions of this concerto, right next to Earl Wild, Yefim Bronfman, Martha Argherich and yes even Horowitz. If Rachmaninov would have heard this performance, he would undoubtedly cry. Bravo
Çok güzel yorumluyor, Hüseyin beyi çok geç tanıdık Türkiyede, ayıp
His life story is also very interesting. I suggest you research his biography and try to understand him.
I have just known this pianist who plays this concert being a teenager.Really great. One of the marvellous things we can enjoy.
Spectacular, and the orchestra is far better than usual, despite some on the spot tempo fluctuations. Clear, balanced and loud when it's supposed to be.
yes, i loved that the orchestra wasn't meek and played their parts loud and confidently without being afraid of overshadowing the soloist when they're actually supposed to
that sound!
The CD and the LP of this were out of print a few years after release and I had to search long and hard to find them, but then after loaning them to friends I lost them, so I haven't heard this performance for at least 20 years. It's every bit as electrifying as I remember, but I notice something in my middle age that I didn't notice in the late '80s: This young boy is unusually humble for a top-tier performer. He plays like a collaborator, where most play this concerto like a commander.
sanatınızıda düşüncelerinizide alkışlıyorum hocam
Can somebody please explain me wtf has happened to this great pianist i can't find anything about him just the old performances is like he just dissapear
He got tired of too many performances. He did not enjoy life enough when he was a child. Not to compare me with him but I paint since I was a little. I once painted over 7 hours per day for nearly a month to complete a very difficult painting The next order was delayed for over 2 months. Now you imagine little Sgouros performing, studying, learning foreign languages, doing seminars etc.
@@stefanast1981 oh ok i understand that i use to play bass years ago and i had that lack of relaxation and then i quit and focused on the piano
Böyle Bir Sanatçı. BİZE ait Bizden olduğu için GURUR duyuyoruz ne mutlu bize
Sgouros is the unique, the best
Çok güzel
I remember when I was around 15 and listening to a radio broadcast of a piano competition (don't remember which). At that time, Dimitris was a little too young to enter the competition. But he was all the commentators were talking about -- they couldn't wait until he became old enough to compete. I wondered who this kid was and what would become of his career and now I see.
I am unsure whether I am disappointed by the fact that this inconceivable performance by a 15 year-old "kid" is not known by millions of people around the world or I am secretly happy that only those who know its true worth appreciate it.
He's mostly known for his Carnegie Hall debut. He played this Concerto, with Rostropovich conducting the National Symphony Orchestra. Sgouros was 12. Arthur Rubinstein was in the audience. He said, "He is the best pianist I have ever heard, including myself", and he gave him his wristwatch.
The first time I heard Rach’s 3rd concerto was a recording by Dimitris Sgouros on cassette tape I borrowed from the public library back in the late 80s when I was about 14 years old. I was in love with the 2nd concerto already and wanted to explore more of Rachmaninoff’s music by borrowing everything Rachmaninoff from the library.
Dimitris Sgouros, a gem
BEAUTIFUL!

Yes sure. Genious!
Stefanos Anastasiadis. Talented, yes, but not genius.
@@EmptyVee00000 I disagree with you and so did many great musicians. This is beyond talent.
Stefanos Anastasiadis. I have it on good authority that Barenboim was not particularly impressed.
@@EmptyVee00000 He plays only Beethoven, right? How about Richter, Rostropovich, Rubinstein, Martha Argerich, Herbert von Karajan, Yevgeni Svetlanov, and many more. Dimitris Sgouros has been called a “musical phenomenon” and “the Greek Myth” has even been compared to Mozart. Sgouros by 20 could perform 44 concerts and probably all the music literature. Not only one composer!!!!! I think Barenboim is not in a position to judge music that he doesn't' t even play. The same goes for anybody criticizing here without having even 10% of his musical knowledge. Show respect!!! He gave 3000 performances. Why do you think they invited him to play just for fun!!
His 'Ossia' cadenza is in a class by itself, casting a shadow over everyone else. This performance ranks among the top 10 best ever. I have 45 recordings. 18:43 second movement
I collect Rakh 3's as well but I don't have that many. Which would you say were the top ten? I would put this with Earl Wild and perhaps Bolet but have a hard time ranking the rest. Olga Kern, possibly.
@@michaelowens5394 I believe you would like Yunchan Lim winner of the Van Cliburn Competition in 2022. My absolute favorites are Horowitz/Ormandy, Byron Janis with both Dorati or Munch conducting, Stephan Hough/Litton, Argerich/Klee, Weissenberg/Martinon, Olga Kern, Yunchan Lim and this performance by Sqouros.
His 2nd movement is a mess. He has a hard time finding the melody. And he is out of sync with the orchestra. Therefore it isn't among the best Rach 3 performances. I agree his Ossia is incredible!
@@trifonovfan9819 Agreed. I believe you will like Yunchan Lim's performance which just won the Van Cliburn Competition 2022. Quite marvelous although his cadenza no match next to Horowitz or Byron Janis.
@@789armstrong Strange that Volodos isn't in your list, any particular reason he doesn't top the tens or so of versions you rank? For me he is ahead everyone, as not only he plays great but also he cares about doing nuances and dialogues with orchestras, refinements that many others just pass by. As for Yunchan, he is solid and focused, but when it comes to sing melodies and lyrical themes, breath and phrasing, he becomes so shy so he adds, exactly as Yuja Wang, sudden pianissimos and fermatas were they do not belong, then the structure collapses.
Daha önce Hüseyin Sermeti keşfedemediğim için çok üzgünüm. Muhteşem gerçekten!!!
