When people are squeezed. Retail crime increases. The eternal conflict between rich and poor escalates. These businesses post record profits while paying minimum wages. Thieves can claim to be acting as Robin Hood while the wealthy have rules stacked in their favour. All wickedness has its roots in land ownership. It's not fair that these businesses have to pay ridiculous ground rents. Makes it hard for them to compete with online operations who operate warehouse to door. We will miss the high street when it is gone.

Malt house is one of my favourite buildings in Gloucester. I have a picture of it on my desk because I always wanted to buy it if I won the lottery :D Please just don't get rid of the face on the river side. The pillars are so beautiful. If anything just keep the integrity of the building.

What a load of misleading nonsense from Richard Graham. But then we are used to this from him. The best thing would be to get the next election over and done with now. He tries to imply that Labour would do things which are entirely speculative and made up presumably by the Tory central office which often writes the scripts for their MPs. Usually they are banging the Tory Propaganda slogans which centres on the phrase, 'Labour has no plan'. Another ridiculous Tory strategy based upon Hitler's master of propaganda. He said: "tell people the same story enough times and they will believe it". More importantly: “There was no point in seeking to convert the intellectuals. For intellectuals would never be converted. Arguments must, therefore, be crude, clear and forcible, and appeal to emotions and instincts of "the man in the street" not the intellect. Truth was unimportant and entirely subordinate to tactics and psychology.” The Tories must realise that the advent of the internet and social media has relegated such crude strategies to the dustbin, which is where this hopeless government is also heading.

I have only once felt intoxication from drugs that lasted for days when I ate a half ounce of cannabis, I find alcohol intoxication tends to linger longer. If the test can register days after you have used drugs, it is not fit for purpose! You would not screen for a longer lived metabolite, like EtG, in drink-driving cases and a simple positive for ethanol would not be enough to convict you as there is a minimum and the breath and blood tests are sensitive enough to determine between normal levels of ethanol present in someone who drinks occasionally or eats a lot of fruit and a level that impairs your function. I do not know if I trust that these tests can discern between e being actively stoned or having been stoned two days a go! I agree with drug driving and drink-driving being criminal, in fact I am harsher on driving offences than most are as an urbanist with a bee in my bonnet about the level of car-dependency in this country, but also being anti-prohibitionist, I believe drugs should be legal like alcohol and that the tests must be fair! And that if we improve our public transit - ESPECIALLY around this time of year when it is often a skeleton service - you will see less of it! If there are no buses on Christmas, taxis are double price and everyone is off work celebrating, then you can expect walking home at night in the cold with all the other drunks who may be driving to seem less safe than driving and putting a protective cage around yourself! We are creating the perfect conditions to encourage recklessness, then just saying, "Please do not be reckless, OK?"
