I got this cheap graphite pencil-kit from Temu and wanted to share my experience.

Temu Pencil USL 967 review

Block plane restoration.
Переглядів 58710 місяців тому
I picked up this little block plane in a charity shop for a couple of dollars. Not a fancy brand or anything, but it suited me, my immediate needs and my wallet. I am by no means an expert, but like everyone else, I have picked up bits of information from endless UA-cam videos. I have also read several in-depth books on blade sharpening - most notably the guru of the subject, Ron Hock, and his ...
The hand plane

It works! (Testing my newly built hand plane). Measurements: (the main body) length 210mm, height 35mm, width 32mm. I have just recently made this small wooden hand plane. It is my first go on this, so give me some slack in your critique. The inspiration comes from three principal sources: James Krenov, an American wood craftsman, and the Shakers, which began in mid-1700. More about those later...
The Nikon 28/2 8 AIS review
Переглядів 26 тис.3 роки тому
I work as a photographer, and this is my thoughts on this vintage lens. 28 mm works for me. Not too wide. Not too bleak. (Not a fence-sitter like close cousin 35, IMO). Some would scream: 'It has no AUTO-FOCUS!!! Well... Get over it! You don't need it! Henri Cartier-Bresson managed. But, what about the aperture 2.8 you'll say? Isn't that a bit old-school? Yes, but in a good way. When shooting a...

    I own a bunch of nikkor 28mm lenses, non AI, AI and AIs f3.5/2.8/2 the ones i use the most are the nikkor PC28mm ( one of the more affordable PC lenses) and a sigma 28 f1.8 when reporting on people events to get real close up portraits (focusses down to 0.3M) while keeping the background out of focus. I could use the nikkor 28 f2 for this but the sigma is AF and locks in on focus faster than i can do manually. There's never been much love for these 28 nikkors, hence the fact they can be found quite cheap, but these days things seem to be changing.

    I love this lens. I bought mine new in about 1982 to use on a Nikon FM. When I bought my first DSLR one of the buying criteria was that it had to be compatible with my 28mm f2.8 AiS. I still use it regularly on my D750. There may be newer alternatives but they’re all so much bulkier and heavier than this beautiful small lens. Useful 52mm filter mount - so not expensive in filters.

    I used several Domke bags over my 25+ years as a photojournalist and loved every one of them. I still have my very first bag but retired it once I wore several holes in the corners, never had a zipper go bad and or a strap break, great bags. I always had two bodies and at least 4-5 lenses and a flash, batteries and charger, film, notepad, pens, cleaning kits, blowers, cable release and anything else I might need.

    Decades ago, I replaced my 28mm f/3.5 Nikkor pre-AI lens with the 28mm f/2.8 Nikkor AIS lens. I used my 28mm f/3.5 in reverse position on bellows for macro photography. I used my 28mm f/2.8 for street, landscapes, building interiors, and vehicle interiors. In 2015, I purchased the faster Zeiss 28mm f/2 Distagon ZF2 to replace my 28mm f/2.8 Nikkor. I was surprised that at the same f-stops, there was little difference in image quality between the two lenses.

SB-800. 2x SB-R200. Had the 28-70/2.8D regular mounted but takes up space, so a classic 35-70/2.8D does fine. Or I like it if I'm not carrying the 80-200. But I'll use the 180/2.8D

    • @caycejones1258
      @caycejones1258 2 роки тому

      Yes and no. It will mount, because both camera and lens utilize Nikon's F mount, but with this lens, the P, S, and A modes won't work. You'll be in Manual mode only. Also, since the lens has no electronic contacts and the camera has no mechanical aperture ring feeler, the Matrix meter won't work, so you'll lose the camera's exposure guidance, because the camera and lens have no way of communicating with each other. You'll have to have a separate light meter to tell you where to set the lens's aperture ring and camera's shutter speed and ISO settings to get correct exposure. External light meters ARE very accurate, but you'll be going back to how photographers worked about 50+ years ago. Lastly, your photos probably won't have any EXIF data.

      @janmalmstrom7843 2 роки тому

      @@iftikharkango6025 Maybe someone out there will correct me here, but I think you have to divide the lens focal length with 1.5 (for Nikon). In this case you would be looking for a 18mm lens or thereabouts.

    • @caycejones1258
      @caycejones1258 2 роки тому

      This lens would work well with your D7200 and its features. It would be equivalent to a focal length of 42mm. The diagonal length of the D7200 sensor is 28.21mm, which would make the 28mm focal length what would be considered a "normal" lens on Nikon DX (APS-C) cameras as opposed to "wide" or "telephoto". On Nikon FX (full frame) cameras, 28mm is considered to be the beginning of the "wide" angle range.

      I usually pick up vintage bed sheet or something similar and then just cut it down to the size needed. I am not so picky. I do NOT by special expensive lint free cloth. Really nice video, I enjoyed it very much! Thank you Jan for sharing your thoughts on this lens. I have the Nikon Z5 and have been looking for the right wide angle lens that would give me the vintage feel you speak about on my mirrorless Nikon. I seriously considered this lens but ultimately went with the Contax Carl Zeiss 28mm F2.8 Distagon, adapted for the Nikon Z. I used to own the Distagon and a whole range of zeiss lenses when I used a film based Contax system in the 80's and 90's. My understanding is that the Nikon 28, F2.8 AIS is even better for sharpness wide open and has less distortion. The macro contrast and biting sharpness when stopped down is unbeatable though on the Zeiss.
