For me Ligotti is among the most imaginative writers ever to grace fiction. Just as talented in the details and point of view as Octavia Butler, Phillip K Dick, Ursula K Le Guin, M John Harrison, China Mieville, Jeff Vandermeer, Thomas Pynchon, Italo Calvino, and Jorge Luis Borges. They're all very careful how they play characters off setting and leave just enough out to let you play around with your own ideas.

Those people who say that this story is a mockery of racist prejudice don't really understand what Thomas Ligotti is. This is a rather lazy and vulgar interpretation, in the spirit of modern mass media.

It's par for the course, but I similarly dont like it when artists speak for themselves, i find it enormously destabilizing to the artist's body of work and the 'relationship' I've developed with the artist through their work.

Both HBO and True Detective’s creator have responded to allegations of plagiarism. Nic Pizzolatto has been accused of lifting dialogue from horror novelist Thomas Ligotti for character Rust Cohle’s (Matthew McConaughey) philosophical musings. “True Detective is a work of exceptional originality and the story, plot, characters and dialogue are that of Nic Pizzolatto,” HBO said in a statement, according to Entertainment Weekly. “Philosophical concepts are free for anyone to use, including writers of fiction, and there have been many such examples in the past. Exploring and engaging with ideas and themes that philosophers and novelists have wrestled with over time is one of the show’s many strengths-we stand by the show, its writing and Nic Pizzolatto entirely.” Writer Pizzolatto followed up with his own denial. “Nothing in the television show True Detective was plagiarized,” the writer said. “The philosophical thoughts expressed by Rust Cohle do not represent any thought or idea unique to any one author; rather, these are the philosophical tenets of a pessimistic, anti-natalist philosophy with an historic tradition, including Arthur Schopenhauer, Friedrich Nietzsche, E.M. Cioran and various other philosophers, all of whom express these ideas. As an autodidact pessimist, Cohle speaks toward that philosophy with erudition and in his own words. The ideas within this philosophy are certainly not exclusive to any writer.” Pizzolatto has previously said that the works of Ligotti and others have been an inspiration to him.

I heard about this back when season 1 was out. Surely this isn't still an ongoing issue. Season 4 is probably using Ligotti's fiction again as it has a science building called Tsalal Station and Ligotti's town of Moxton in "The Tsalal" had much in common with the town of Ennis.

The families of Ralph Yarl & Kailyn Gillis never once did anything to deserve this grief. The countless families of children murdered by guns are never going understand why we, as a country, chose to sacrifice their kids for the Republicans sake. If there is a hell, we’re there. Mar 30 Sadé - John's sister. Fundamentally Black @Sadenochill · 20h Our government watches children be murdered by guns, & does nothing for poverty, but has the energy to attack trans children. This Country is so sick. Are the protestors at the Tennessee Capitol armed? Are they disrupting certification of a democratic election? No, because what you have is a legitimate protest protected by the First Amendment. So cut the cutesy, flip bullshit before more innocent children are murdered by guns.
