Tuba Skinny_Miss the Mississippi and You_ Jimmy Rodgers song (1932)
Переглядів 4,3 тис.21 день тому
Beautifully sung by Greg Sherman, the song by Jimmy Rodgers: "Miss the Mississippi and You". As befits Tuba Skinny, the song arranged and performed superbly. Of note is Craig Flora's solo, from 2:12 to 3:05. It builds an amazing mood and is straightforwardly - as user @jameserwin7546 expressed it - stuffy. In my opinion, it is indeed difficult to catch a normal breath for that moment. Jimmie Ro...

I make no secret of the fact that the dynamic, lively and gritty songs performed by Tuba Skinny rally me the most. "Jazz Battle" is one of the most representative examples of this type of recording in their repertoire. In 1928, Jabbo Smith was stuck in Chickago for several years after an aborted tour with James P. Johnson's orchestra. At that time, he entered into a contract with Brunswick Reco...
Tuba Skinny_I'm Going Back Home_Recorded in Houston, October 2021

This song probably needs no introduction. "I'm going back home" first saw the "light of day" in 1930, performed by the duo "Memphis Minnie and Joe McCoy" I don't know how long Tuba Skinny has been performing this song, but its popularity makes one think it's been around forever. No wonder, then, that it is part of the album "Some Kind-a-Shake" which was hailed as the band's best album.

When They Ring Those Golden Bells is a beautiful gospel and bluegrass song written in 1887 by Daniel de Marbelle. The copyright was acquired by the John Church Company, and the song was first recorded in 1915 by the Imperial Quartet. The song has been covered by many famous artists. I counted fifty official versions, including one from behind the "Iron Curtain," where the (then Czechoslovakian)...

"Eagle Ridin' Papa" is a song recorded in 1930 by Big Bill Broonzy. The song's authorship is attributed to Thomas Dorsey, and this version, performed by Tuba Skinny, comes from their first public performance during the COVID 19 pandemic. Although the band played with a depleted lineup (Erika Lewis and Todd Burdick were missing), the performance was extremely successful. NOLA, December 30, 2020.

"How do they do it that way" is a sensationally sung by Erika Lewis song by Viktoria Spivey. In my opinion, it surpasses the orginal in performance and arrangement. As always, Tuba Skinny rose to the occasion. Shaye Cohn and her team are unrivaled. The song is from a performance at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston (October 2021).

"Mighty Anchor" was first performed by the Tuba Skinny team in November 2020 during a live performance on line. 100044238483503/videos/293807188550067 (47th minute) I experienced déjà vu at the time. I couldn't get rid of the impression that I had heard it somewhere before. I was wrong, of course, but searching the Internet I found something like this: ua-cam.com/video/FKM2HrvSoKM/...

"Security" is one of those Tuba Skinny songs that have little to do with jazz. Tuba Skinny is a versatile band, inspired by many musical genres. They give old, sometimes forgotten compositions a second life. "Security" - by Allen Rathel Bunn as Tarheel Slim, is a rockabilly style song originally performed in 1960 by Tarheel Slim and his wife Little Ann. Tuba Skinny at the Miller Outdoor Theatre...

This version of Tuba Skinny's "San" was recorded during a concert happening in Ridgefield Park, August 10, 2021. This is the only time I know of when the band played this theme with vocals. The 1936 text by Spencer Leigh Leon Selph (Blue Ridge Playboys), is sung by guest performer Blind "Boy" Paxton. The composition itself, written by Lindsay McPhail and Walter Michels, dates back to 1920 and h...

Estupenda musica
The way the cornet and the clarinet converse in the beginning is just beautiful.
Great always/.
The setting and presentation of the film are magnificent, the Tuba Skinny then... In short WOW!WOW!WOW!
Love it
So good.

Great Band keep it coming
I love you 👏 🎶 🎺
Superb, Mis Fozje, both you and the band.
Many thanks to Pops. Tuba Skinny have captured the soul of many people. They are a worldwide phenomenon. And who is saying that? Well me, an old rocker.🤭

Face Diapers are for morons.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Oh my, absolutely wonderful singing Greg. Faithful to the original but sensitively infused with your own feeling, phrasing and relaxed style.
This soft, melancholic sound is unique among TS performances, at least the ones I have seen here and three glorious live performances.
Nuena buenrosima
When I was 14, my dad bought me some LPs by Louis Armstrong`s Hot 5, and Hot7,and Jelly Roll Morton`s Red Hot Peppers ...You wonderful band of musicians have managed to recreate that sound as we can hear it today...you are ALL so amazing ..Chay seems to be the reincarnation of the early Louis ,and as a trom player myself I am a great fan of Barnabus`s brilliant trombone style , not squeeling away with high notes and lip trilling ,but playing good solid tunes in the slightly lower registers -a truley great `bonist..and all the band ...what a great Souza player you have and the driving rhythm section of 2 great guitarists / banjoists and the brilliant idea of having the best washbord player in the world just rounds you off as the best traditional players of New Orleans music in the present day...There was a "Trad Jazz " revival here in Britain in the late 1950`s, but it was too slick with trumpets instead of cornets and over enthusiastic kit drummers, which didn`t sound authentic ..You are such a joy to listen to ,as you re the real thing and from New Orleans...all the very best wishes to you and Happy Christmas from a dedicated fan from what remains of GB..( "0ver the pond")......!..God Bless you all.......
When was this performance recorded? I love the sound of it.
December 30, 2020. This was the first public performance during pandemic.Tuba Skinny at the Broadside Theater.
@@misfozje3434 Thank you!! I saw Jason, and wondered if he was visiting back in New Orleans, as some Asheville - New Orleans travels back and forth have gone on lately. I know he visited with the band during their last Asheville appearance, so I thought maybe he drove down for a fundraiser they held recently.
Merle Haggard played tribute to this song and others in 1970. This tribute reminds me of greatness. 😂
Great 👍😃 🚂🎉
Hot Jazz the way it used to be played. Bravo! Haven't heard Live Jazz like this since I don't know when.
👏👏👏👏👏🎶📽️🖌️🎨🖋️📖
Są świetnym zespołem, Shaye jest jego mózgiem, doskonałym muzykiem, brawo!
Shaye!! " Su mundo musical" está más allá de lo creíble 🎶🎵💚
Thankful for this amazing band that Shay Cohen has put together for us to love! Her cornet playing is always spot on!
Legendary song by a legendary band ! 🎉🎶😊
Good to know it wasn't in response to the recent bird flu Bs push . But even if it was I still think your music is great and brings a shaft of new Orleans colour to the gloomy UK chem sprayed skies Mb
Good medicine in troubling times. Thank you.
Pekne sespivane a hrane 🙏👍❤️🇨🇿
Michale zadna skupina doma to neudela tak dobre.
Merveilleux ! ❤👏🏻🙏🏻
Just discovered you - brilliant sound, will be listening lots more. I am assuming chap on the washboard has had the living bejesus scared out of him by lying MSM and deceitful government pushing more "pandemic" lies. Such a shame.
Well, that time has passed, but it was certainly difficult. The footage is from the first public performance the authorities allowed during the pandemic. Certainly everyone had to be tested for SARS-CoV-2, and I suspect that Robin's result at the time was positive, hence the mask. Despite the significant restrictions, the issuance of the concert permit was a major step forward.
Beautiful singing once again Greg - thank you!
Thanks, Mis Fozje. This waltz-tempo tune is beautifully presented - both by by the band and by you. Made famous by Jimmie Rodgers, the song was actually composed, I think, in 1932, by William H. Heagney (who also wrote under the name Bill Halley).
Yes, you are right. The song was written by Bill Halley and recorded on December 2, 1932. As far as I know, Jimmie Rodgers did not actually author his songs. He was, however, an excellent arranger. He reworked well-known themes to the point that his producer Ralph Peer was able to retain the copyright to these songs. Thank you sincerely for your comment.
Thanks Pops, always a sensitive reply.
This couldn't be any sweeter! Many thanks from California.
best off...thanks for this wonderful and creative clip from the best band in the waves of jazz..for me..Lovely greetings from Germany

As an ex-banjo player I really appreciate the straight 4 in a bar New Orleans classic style that he is playing.
