Beautiful mic! Hope to have one someday.
Thanks! Let us know if you have questions!
Amazing mic! My go-to pair for upright piano. When not there, they live on the kick out.
Fantastic! Thanks for choosing us!
Looks great! I have several of the HW ones for signal management between balanced and unbalanced signals and plan to do some re-amping in the near future... Might just have to pick up one of these to see if I can find any difference between the HW Blue/Red and the UST.
No demo?
Been struggling with reamp devices, have the Radial Pro RMP and bought the Walrus Canvas and they just can’t get there with a high gain amp. I just ordered this one, hope it fits the bill!
Let us know what you think!
@ just arrived today, it’s freaking awesome, so happy! Great product
Fantastic! Glad you dig it, let us know if you have questions!
As someone who's idea of "re-amping" guitar is the Fryette or Boss solutions where the unit goes between the power amp and cab... I cannot figure out what this unit actually does or what it is used for? Is this more of a microphone thing to add gain like a preamp? Where does this get used, and what does it actually do? I couldn't really find that answer on your web site either.
This is for using a DI track to run back out from the DAW to interface back to the amp.
@ ok now I think I see how this would be used! Thanks man.
Let us know if you have any more questions!
I own this microphone and I am highly satisfied with it. It is amazing, and let me say that Chad was very responsive to questions. I can't recommend this microphone enough. Excellent stuff, and beautiful aesthetics as well.
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words.
Being unable to see his arms makes me wonder why his hands are right in front of his face…
had a jacket on... was very cold in there that day. haha
No hpf? :(
Durable housing is true, but will the transformer as a heavy component stay in place if it falls from a shelf? Will the sockets be safe and easy to replace when somebody kicks the jacks on a stage? I would prefer separated sockets or at least two or three separated boards inside.
The Vintage Direct is built to last. If you'd like to see some shots of the internals to evaluate the build quality, check out the brochure! avantone-cms.s3.amazonaws.com/8d26e0f5-b250-4836-bd18-581d26338b16/United-VintageDirect-Brochure.pdf
Hi, the transformer is secured by an internal bracket, essentially a U-clamp, that holds the transformer to the PCB. It will withstand a fall, we actually tested for this. -Chad
I’ve owned 3 of these. Currently still have one. I am honored to say I was one of the pre orders on these. Such an amazing microphone. I’ve won worldwide competitions with them. I’ve recorded a couple songs now with the u87ai and the twin87 within a single track and they go together flawlessly. I’ve recorded a song with a rick Ross feature on it and that as well mixes together with his vocals so well which I assume were recorded with a sony800. Solid build. Consistent sound. Works with modern upfront buttery vocals. Works with vintage sit in the mix female vocals. Absolute battle horse of a mic.
If I could be a united studio tech artist I would 😏 I even have artist that I work with exclusively that all have their own twin87 now too. Spreading the knowledge and big sound one by one.
Right on! Really appreciate the kind words.
Can you please make a sound test video, with a bass, as well as other things? Compare it to the classic Radial DI?
Hey! I got a pair and have been enjoying them but one of them has a loose casing and the threads are bound so I cant open it. I messaged the contact page on your website a month ago and still haven't heard back. Please let me know how to get in touch. Thanks!
Hey, sorry to hear this, as well as for the late response - busy times here over the holidays. Please DM your email address and we'll look for your message and get this straightened out. Thanks!
Very cool, but what if I actually want the vintage non-linear frequency response...
Exactly.... It doesn't seem to make sense to un-vintage a vintage design. Isn't it being like a vintage unit the whole point of re-issuing a vintage device???
I'm guessing it sounded a bit far off from the source signal that building it the way it was is a big risk...for sales.
@steppbrooEFT Yeah, i guess the idea might be that their potential customers like the idea of vintage gear but don't really want vintage gear. Certainly stranger things going on in the world with people's thinking these days so it's possible I suppose. If I want say vintage single coil guitar pickups I realize that there may be buzz or if I want to buy a vintage inspired ribbon mic I expect that it isn't going to have great high frequency response unless I boost it considerably with eq but that's my thinking. Don't try to sell me noiseless guitar pickups and tell me they are vintage 1950s pickups.
Hi, its a good and valid question. So, when we made our first and closest reproductions of the A-series UTC parts, what we were seeinig was some odd 'shelving' eq responses, of only a dB or so, it was subtle... barely audible but very visible on a sweep measurement. Its the sort of thing that would have definitely generated A LOT more inquiries and concerns for those who noticed it (visually, and yes, people will do that, haha) than if it 'did not' have that response... so we really had no choice, I felt, but to correct for that. There was actually a tiny bit of EQ happening in both directions, we were seeing a bit of LF loss due to capacitative coupling between the 2 sides of the transformer, and a little bit of HF loss due to the metallurgy of the laminations (we suspect)... We essentially made changes to extend and flatten out the FR in both directions. I don't believe those issues contributed a lot to the 'tone' of the original part; I think the tone has more to do with harmonic content and its very high headroom/input tolerances, etc. Bear in mind, the original part we modeled was used in, among other things, phono playback, and never designed to be a direct box transformer (because such things didn't really exist yet)... so you're talking about something that a whole lot of EQ (RIAA curve) was already being applied to somewhere else... Likely they were correcting with EQ to some degree initially... and since we didn't have a built in EQ/tone control, we needed to correct on the transformer. After all, I want people to be able to still capture reference-quality direct tracks that are as un-manipulated as possible. So, I view the UTC part as our initial 'muse' and what we took from that was the general construction technique, the oversize/overkill approach, and the high headroom design; but what we landed on was more modern in terms of performance... best of both worlds, perhaps. If someone does desire the exact original part with all of its eccentricities, my friends over at Audioscape make a limited run of boxes using NOS original UTC parts, and I have no problem recommending them for those who want that extra bit of vintage artifacts/flavor. They do great work. For us, since we were making this in quantity and our goal was to make a reference flat direct box, we could not go that route. -Chad
I got the Twin earlier this year, absolutely love it!! Can’t believe the sound quality ❤
Thanks so much! Appreciate you!
Fantastic overview! I love my Twin87, which I use for vocals all the time. And the RF filter has helped reduce the effects of RF interference over here 🙌 Thanks for crafting this awesome mic!
Right on! Thanks for the kind words.
I just got one of these. I am in love with it.
Right on! Thanks for choosing us.
Tnx for this vid. I love my twin 87!
It loves you back!
Awesome run down ! Thanks for the in depth info :)
Glad you found it helpful!
Bravoooooooooo. Sublime
In love with this mic. Will grab one before long!!! And btw, what is the recorded band???
What kind of pop filter is that and where do I get one?
I'm not sure. Ask Jacob over on Instagram: instagram.com/stillman/?hl=en
Sounds like a winner.
Sounds a little weird but in a good way
Hello. Thanks for the mic. demo, but, in this case, there’s so much beyond the sound of the mic.! None of the other video demos of this mic. sound as buttery on EVERY source. Please, share the secret-sauce processing used to infuse so much butter into that sound. Please, share your recipe.😅.
Signal art reamp or angramp? Been using the angramp for a while, always have to wind up going back and forth between it and a real guitar to nail down the correct output.
Both! The Transparent mode is based on the classic Signal Art reamp, Harmonic Mode is based on the AngReAmp. :)
Hi, I am interested in the Vintage Direct box. What benefits can I get from this product for playing bass? Or what is special about this product?
Above all else, The Vintage Direct is the cleanest-sounding DI box you can get. We did everything we could to keep your tone as clean and robust as possible. With the Vintage Direct, you'll also be able to record your DI bass sound and your mic'd amp tone at the same time - you can then blend your tone between the two signals. Of course, if you're into re-amping, you can run that DI signal back into your amp later (using our Replay Box or similar) and adjust the amp tone to suit your project at your leisure, after tracking. You can commit to a performance without committing to your tone at the same time.
@@UnitedStudioTechnologies Is there a sound demo? I'm really curious about the sound of the vintage direct.
Not at this time. It's worth considering that the goal of the Vintage Direct is transparency; the Vintage Direct shouldn't have a sound of it's own. The only sound you should hear is that of whatever you plug into it! In other words, we thought this product should be about your tone, and not ours. :)
Any chance to get this with 10 MOhm input impedance?
No plans for this time, but we're curious about your use case for that input impedance. Tell us more! Have you looked into active DI boxes? Some of them have variable input impedance options.
@@UnitedStudioTechnologies What is needed is an audio buffer for a cello pickup. Essentially, it's a preamp without any gain. It should have a high impedance input for the pickup and a low impedance output capable of driving long audio cables.
Yo !
Yo!
I’m hoping to see some reviews of this soon. I’m definitely interested!
We're working on getting them to reviewers! In the meantime, check out what Glenn Fricker has to say about it: ua-cam.com/video/h2AIEOXSq1U/v-deo.html Also we've got a little writeup on the history of the Replay Box if you're interested: unitedstudiotech.com/en/posts/the-replay-box-story
I got mine today. Only reamped one songs worth of tracks with it so far but it’s working pretty well so far
Fantastic! Keep us posted on how you like it!
Very impressive drum tones!
Too bad… why are microphone companies almost never use classical instruments for video’s and if they do please be sure it is a bit more in tune at least.
This is awesome!! I just started learning guitar a few weeks ago & I'm documenting my entire learning journey on here so this was super motivational!
Best of luck!
@@UnitedStudioTechnologies Thanks so much - I will need that luck haha! And thanks for the great videos you put out.. they're appreciated!
I had a UT FET47. The output was intermittent. It seemed that someone tried to solder the backplate solder lug to the head of the backplate screw, thereby melting away part of the capsule saddle! Of course this should not have happened to a brandnew microphone...
Hey Ruud, this sounds highly unusual; this is not how our mics are manufactured. The termination wires with the ring terminals are prepped beforehand and then added on to the capsule once prepped. We would never manufacture that way and risk thermal damage to the capsule or saddle. We have your e-mail on file and will be reaching out about this shortly so we can find out what happened and make sure it doesn't happen again. Thanks!
Purchased the UT Twin 87 earlier this year. One of the best investments I’ve made when it comes to audio gear. Literally two mics in one and it is my go to for all things recording. Read and saw a lot of reviews on it. The one that stuck out the most came from Czar but it caught my attention immediately when I saw it on Zzounds. Exactly what’s explained on the label and website about this mic is exactly what it is. Looking forward to what else United has coming down the pike 💪🏿💯💯
This is awesome. Thanks so much. Do you mind if I share your quote on our Instagram?
why do vintage and modern sound exactly the same?

Love this mic, I'm definitely getting one!!! Who's the girl singing in the demo?? Absolutely love her voice!!!! ❤️
Wow!! Shopping around for a great all around mic, and this is most likely the one for me. Amazing versatility and big open sound.
Good choice!
I was told that the 47 is great for vocals with it's midrange presence in which this is why I want one of these mis soon but mannnnn it's sounding good on the kick and loving it as a mono overhead. That floor tom is thick sounding btw😂😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏🏿👌👍🏿
We could say is Neumann clone with two circuits ?
The mic is great but what makes the difference is the musicians and the engineer. Great job!
This is two microphones, not one... I sing with karaoke backing tracks and play acoustic or electric guitar on top. I need to record myself. Will this microphone work in a small room for recording such a live performance without any mixing programs? Just a simple recording like a dictaphone. I need to get close to a professional recording level.
That sounds great . Great performance . . I am gonna get. a UST 47 fet .

We thought it was important to make the trip all the way out there to fully illustrate how warm the mic sounds.
