Tascam 414 pitch mod / normal speed
Here's a hack to get a normal speed switch on the Tascam 414 cassette recorder. I'm new to the cassette loops world. Thanks to Heinbach, Amulets and all the tape loop creators for the inspiration.

Hi Jean-frances and others, i tried the bypass, it works a short time , then i must have done something wrong, the unit has power, but no power to rhe tape player, any suggestions on problem? Capacitor? I removed the bypass still no power to the taoe player...any help appreciated!
I never had this problem. I would have a hard time to tell what is the problem but I doubt it has something to do with the bypass.
Bravo. Bel accomplissement !
Permission 4 shsre.Thanks
No problem
Those are very bad welds…
You're right, my first ones ever 😉
Love that song haha!
Thanks man!
I really don’t like this. Taking a portable saw and making it unportable. These dewalt portable saws are much more expensive than the regular vertical band saws. If you want a permanent vertical bandsaw then buy a cheap one and it’ll be better quality than this and bigger cutting capacity. Stands are good for swapping back and forth. Take it off the stand when needed and use it as portable saw then put it back on when you want stand. Permanently wiring the cord ruins it.
Thanks for your comment. I really love mine with the stand 😉
Hello Jean-François! Thank you for this amazing tutorial! Will this mod work on the 414 MK2 variant as well? I would love to try it out because my loops are too short. Thanks for your help!
Thanks for your comment. I don't have the MK2 model but I'm pretty sure it would work.
i am late getting to the party, but nice detailing the build
Wondering if it’s better to have the blade slot from the front rather than the back. Lots of disassembly to just change a blade. Mind you the pre made tables have slots in the back. Your thoughts?
I’ve watched a ton of these retrofit band saw tables and came up with a very similar design. Even the feet!! But I’ll add adjusting rubber feet underneath those flanges. Surprised you did t buy the King Canada saw. Much cheaper than Dewalt Personally think they’re all made in the same warehouse
Thanks! I had a good deal on this used Dewalt 😉
You’re also the only person to use the contour gauge. That’s unique. I’m shooting for 14x16. Think that’s decent enough for wider material
❤️❤️❤️
is there a easy, safe way to find the resistor to bypass on any multitracker? i’m trying to do this same thing on a yamaha mt50
I don't think that every 4 track recorder is built the same. If there's a « pitch » or « speed » knob you may find the same thing.
Nice work my friend. Couple of questions. What is the type of staple - like gun you are using to pin the photo into the frame and also the tape gun. Thanks and keep producing your videos. I just subscribed.
That is the best build I have seen for a band saw stand so far. Very good workmanship and it is shocking that he can be so productive in what appears to be the most disorganized and cluttered shop I have seen.
Lol thanks for your comment. You should see my shop right now…it's even worst.
Disorganized means you’re creative Very common to be a bit cluttered for a creative mind.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I always struggled to use my 414 effectively because tape loops felt too short at double speed.
Magnifique
does it work too during recording, so that the cassette can be played in a regular Hi-Fi deck? what are the specs of the On/off switch? 12V/AC or DC or soemthin else? thanks in advance for response
Yes it will work. The on/off swich is just a regular 12v dc switch.
GENIUS! such an elegant way to pull off this mod off!!!! I did the same on my FOSTEX 250, there it was... a lonely resistor on the pitch control board ! I added my switch and it worked!!! THANK YOU!!
Thanks for the kind words! Glad I could help :)
Beautiful job! Don't grind your welds - take pride on your work.
Cool guitar! Why is the video title and description in english, but the video isn’t in english?
Thanks! You're right, I'm so used to watch and put videos in english on YT that I didn't think of it. I guess it reaches broader audience for the search.
Great video! I am planning to build someting simillar for my bandsaw too, and this project looks the best so far :D Two years after release, is there anyting you would do differently or are you perfectly satisfied in the way it turned out?
Thanks! Nothing really to change for my use. Some mentioned the weakness due to only 2 screws but I've never had any problem and I move the saw from place to place in my garage without really taking care…
So helpful! Thank you! Don’t have to space for a 424 and I’m only wanting it for this function. There is hope! Lol
great video, i have been looking to do this for ages now on my Fostex X-55 that only plays and records high speed (9.5cm a second) . Do you think the procedure would be similar, any tips? i just wish there was more videos like this as tape seems to be coming back.
Thanks for your comment! For the Fostex if it has a pitch knob I guess it's possible but I don't own it so I'm not sure.
@@docjfnoel your video has inspired me, I've opened up the X55, been having a mess, getting some slow down speed results...i will keep you posted :-)
ive done it :-) ua-cam.com/video/K5mzgraUBHI/v-deo.html
I would like to build a similar table. Do you feel that the two screws holding the table on are strong enough? Seems like the full weight of the saw on those two screws is too much weight.
Thanks for the comment! I've been moving the table everywhere in the shop for more than a year and I didn't have any issue.
Excellent! 👍🏻
Excellent video, thanks for sharing
cool video, I'm going to be making one soon and doing a video on it as well, nice to know others have made their own
Nice work, thanks for posting!
Would you happen have a template of the top. Thanks
Buen video.
What size screws?
Nice
Awesome! Thank you for sharing. I'm going to build mine soon.
Hello, I would like to know if I can do this same in a tascam portastudio 05 hs, and if so, how could I do it? I would like to be able to listen to my tapes on it at normal speed, and also to be able to record at normal speed, could you help me?
The vertical adjustment is smart imo, love it !!
Great video! I have similar concerns about the plastic cracking. If you have any more tips about how you did this, that would be great. Also, what type/gauge of wire did you use to connect the switch? Thanks!
I want one! Lol! Nice work
Thanks for the video. Just curious if the tool is back heavy on the stand, and was wondering if it needs to be mounted to a bench?
I was able to find a tascam 414 for $22. It was untested and it seems that the capacitor is busted. I ordered some and will replace it. If it works after the repair, omg, I am absolutely doing this. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
You lucky son of a gun! Good for you. :)
It took me a while to get back to this but I did the mod with a potentiometer instead of a switch and that will control the speed to any speed you want. It worked beautifully! Thank you again, :)
What’s some rough measurements ?
WoW! Gr8 Cover!!!
Worked perfectly for me, I get correct speed with the pitch wheel turned all the way down. Thank you!
Thank you for a great instructional and functional video ! Was going to buy the Swag but after seeing this will build my own . Will subscribe . What size thickness was the top plate ?
