I respond to a bad review of my new book!
Pharmakakawa, out since November 2024, is a mini-me version & distillation of some of the research and themes in my big book, The Secret Life of Chocolate, released in 2020. I think they’re both excellent presents for anyone interested in Cacao or chocolate, with a unique perspective and a broad range of research. I respond to the very first reviewer of Pharmakakawa on Amazon, who disagreed, leaving a one-star review. Let’s discuss…

Thank you for your work. I will be putting Pharmakakawa on my Christmas list! I do love a good reference section so looking forward to that too!
Thank you!
Secret Life of Chocolate is my go to! Thank you Marcus!

I use it for stomach upsets, but I had no idea about the other benefits. Thank you so much, you explain everything so well ❤.

Great information thanks!
Thank you! Can I ask what edition of Culpeper's "Complete Herbal" is worth purchasing? Lots of them edit important contextual and astrological things. Which is the best in full besides the original of course. Thank you!
Yes - the Wordsworth reference edition. Currently available for about £3-4 in the UK. www.amazon.co.uk/Culpepers-Complete-Herbal-Wordsworth-Reference/dp/1853263451
Where to get the hurbs though... im not online...
Are you in the UK? Or otherwhere...?
Really interesting and informative Marco- enjoyed it !
Great content thank you for sharing
The sound drops out at 22:48 for reasons I can't fathom - so will upload a Part 2!
Thanks again for the mulled thinking juice, Marcos! This time of year nature seems to be suggesting psychoactives more loudly. I would be curious to listen to a video touching on that...
Thank you! Noted...
Thanks Marcos, good food for thought as ever
Thanks Andy!
I've been taking vervain for skin health, specifically eczema, but also the stress cycle that's partly to blame for the itch! I find it does calm my mind and my eczema has cleared up a lot.
Yes please... more, more, .more.... very good... thank you
Thank you!
Love this one Marcos
Thanks Tash!
Correction: Stephen Fulder's "Book of Ginseng" was first published in 1980, republished in 1990 and 1993.
I get really bad migraine and my vision goes I've had them since I was about 7 ,8 am now 37 been hospital doctors taken lots of different medicines nothing worked then went hospital for something else my blood tests said I have to much iron in my blood so changed my diet and lifestyle and touch wood 🪵 it's not as frequent my migraines any more great video keep up the good work 😊😊
Thanks very much Gary! I'm glad you've had some good results, it sounds like the diagnosis might have been hemochromatosis (where the body stores too much iron?) Well done on changing up your diet, I'm guessing a low haem-iron and higher phytate/wholegrain style more plant-based diet (binds iron more, so you absorb less) would be good here. The two plants mentioned in this stream may be worth a look if you're still getting the migraines too. And of course if you're still getting them after all that and you're in the UK, go see a NIMH registered herbalist :)
@thenocturnalherbalist2062 up to now am OK but am always looking for more information and learning how to manage them thanks for the info 👍
Thanks Marcos, very interesting. It's not a plant I can find in the Chinese tradition, but often vines are considered to have a spreading effect which would be the CM reason for its ability from the sounds of it to direct herbs outwards. It also sounds like as well as being toxic it is acrid, and if so its nature may also help with that spreading effect, as well as getting rid of phlegm. I will try to find out more about it (although I can't imagine I'll be taking or prescribing it). Also good advice on being a passenger! In Buddhism I would relate this to 'patient endurance' but I think actually putting it the way you did makes more sense - in that you can actively make a choice to be a passenger, rather than having to just abide with and endure.
Thanks Andy! I didn't know that about vines in TCM, sounds a bit like the doctrine of signatures in the old western tradition (sort of). I don't prescribe Bryony a lot but I have found myself using it more (catiously) in recent years, at very low doses. I didn't think of the Buddhist idea there either, glad I accidentally resonated with that!
Would this be relevant for chronic migraines?
Do you mean, is Bryony useful in chronic migraine? Not that I'm aware of, but it's possibly of use as an adaptogen (in very low doses of course!), it wouldn't be my first choice. Over-the-counter I'd try Feverfew first, especially if you get low moods, but check first if you're on any meds. As a herbalist I'd usually make a bespoke prescription for migraine because the same way that people have different migraine triggers, what works well for one may not work as well for others.
Also - just checked out your channel! Good stuff- subscribed! Didn't realise it was you - nice to see a familiar friendly face :)
@@thenocturnalherbalist :) sorry if it's an odd question but Culpeper mentioned about head pain I thought, but perhaps he was describing the energetics. Am looking to help with a chronic migraine. Nice informative video!
@@thenocturnalherbalist just discovered bryonia is used for headache with nausea in homeopathy!
So, wonderfull enlightening exposé via the link... Thank you very much! I 'd like to order the IAM nr 32 issue, but does anybody else have trouble using their website?
Just watched the full version from the link. I love your detailed explanations of the charts! I'm learning horary now and it's super useful to see all of the little elements that come together to bring the answer. Thank you!
Thank you Beata! I'm very glad you found it useful. 🙏
So... where 's the link ???
Thanks Hervaro, I must have forgotten to add it in after posting on Rumble. Added now
@@thenocturnalherbalist OK, thank you! (took me some time to get back here... :-) )

Your content is incredibly insightful. Please make more! Thankyou for sharing .. you seem a font of wisdom!
Thank you Kerry! Work has got busy this past few months so it's harder to find time to film and edit, but new videos are coming!
Hi, do you teach medical astrology?
Hi Ronelle! I do, via Kepler online school - you can check them out here: keplercollege.org/index.php/program/catalog/1189-md100
There isn’t any money in medicinal herbs and it can’t be controlled by pharma or government.
So insightful. Wow haha. Fascinating. I want to know if there are certain drugs designated to each planet and each zodiac sign? I am a Pisces sun and I’ve always been drawn to cannabis. I feel like it’s the earths way of communicating to us through living plants.
Same I’m drawn to cannabis and am Pisces Sun
Thanks Jasmine! In traditional astrology, the answer is yes - specific drugs were allocated to specific planets and signs, so for example Motherwort is a plant of Venus in Leo. Tobacco was designated a herb of Mars, I'd suggest Mars in Cancer - some authors say it's a herb of Saturn though, so opinions varied. Coffee I'd say is Mars in Capricorn, for all sorts of reasons. It's an interesting exercise doing this sort of astrological classification, for lots of reasons.
An hour and eight into your video. I am NOT asleep (jmf reading the crowd). You are fabulous and your pharmacology section is not only brilliant and deep and I am learning TONS, but absolutely laugh out loud funny. You must be awesome live. 14 years......got to get the book. Amazing are you.

I dont think its the ppl i think its just the mainstream media madness the non vaxed dont care what ppl do but we want to speak and have open discutions and transparency this is what the ppl want no narratives
I think you're probably right Tova, the media has a huge amount of influence over people's views.
Well done someone taking sense at last.
Thanks Tony, much appreciated!
Yes. The truth-sayers are labeled “conspiracy theorists”. Humanity, for the most part is asleep. The pandemics are not going away. After all, Gates said that there will be two more pandemics (he should know). They are designed to enslave us. We are going to face very, very hard times. The Globalists bow at the alter of Climate Change, instead the alter of our Triune God. JESUS saves. HE is “the best chance” we have. Prepare yourselves to be spiritually strong. I found your video to be patronizing!
Great detailed explanation. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks Amira 🙏
Great video... "Medical libertarian" - me too :D
Thanks Al 😁⭐👽
Fabulous presentation, thank you!
Thank you Michelle!
Aloha to you Caroline Lovejoy , The Nocturnal Herbalist !!!! I appreciate so much your information shared about the possible fringe benefits of Cacao and dark chocolate in COVID-19. !!!!!! Thank you so very much !!!!!!! Gratefully, Robert S.J. Hu Sept. 2, 2021.
I’ve started putting 100% cocoa powder in with my coffee grounds when I brew my morning coffee. It really smooths out any bitterness but I imagine some benefits are added. I drink my coffee black so I imagine it helps💓
I knew my dark chocolate was good!
Soo the ingredients in chocolate is killing the Covid compounds and cells in it? If this is possible with Chocolate can other foods kill the virus also?
Hi Brian, NO, cacao or chocolate will not inhibit covid-19 or prevent infection. If you want to know more about plants that may help in covid-19 infection I have done another video on that topic: ua-cam.com/video/NcySPjTaHr4/v-deo.html The point in this video is that dark chocolate or cacao contain compounds which reduce inflammation in blood vessels and improve blood sugar control, as well as dilating the airways. Because high blood sugar is a risk factor for more severe covid-19 infection, and damage to blood vessels from high blood pressure is also a risk factor, regular intake of dark chocolate or cacao may reduce the likelihood of getting more severe infection (may reduce risk of developing SARS - ending up on a ventilator.) Dark chocolate and cacao may also be a useful addition to the diet for people recovering from covid for these reasons.
Awesome video yo
Huge respect, Marcos! What make/model is your chocolate grinder?
Hi Alison, sorry I didn't spot this! I have a very boojie Vitamix for kitchen purposes, for large batches I use the Santha Stone melangeur. Also a metate y mano for little batches :)
Excellent video! I'm really enjoying these. It's great to see traditional astrology in practice, and even more exciting to see someone willing to discuss what they got right and wrong.
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying it, makes it worthwhile. I intend to follow up on any predictions I make just to see how things worked out.
Hello Marcus! :-) I'm one of your students from the recent Kepler medical astrology winter program with Will Morris and Judith Hill! Loved this video! Have you posted the one about vaccines? Sounds really interesting and would love to hear about it - thank you so much for all your work! Many blessings and much love!
Thank you! Lovely to see you here, and thanks for commenting :) Not yet done a video on vaccines...that one's in the works currently. No astrology though, just medicine (and a bit of herbal stuff).
@@thenocturnalherbalist Thank you! Love your lively and enthusiastic energy by the way! Many blessings and much love!
