Sometimes I space out while mountain biking to think about mountain biking, then I realize I'm actually mountain biking and I should pay attention so I don't get hurt. This channel exists because I enjoy sharing my adventures, crashes, and "ah ha" moments as I progress, all from a regular person's perspective. I can't do back flips yet, but I'll help you build up a wheel if you ask.

After a long wait, the kid finally gets pedals, disk brakes, and a bell. This is the Commencal Ramones 16 (little bike with pedals). The quality of the bike is way higher than expected. Good grips, firm but comfortable saddle, and 38 points of engagement on the rear hub. The brake rotors are huge for this size bike, but they allow for easy braking for a 3 year old.

Too funny. Your intro made me stay for the rest! Although a voice over would have been useful...
I'm glad it provided a bit of amusement! 😊
Happens to the best of us little bro! Keep shreddin!
Bravo 👍👍👍👍❤
A year and a half later now, and I'm about to order me a new rim this week. 🤣
Great video. As the parent of two boys my heart skipped a beat when he started crying and brought back many memories. Good job dad.
Yeah, I was really upset with myself until he recovered in the truck. The kid is a trooper.
I bought a Blackburn Grid MTB pack; which didn't even survive its first ride. With the saddle down, when the rear end sagged, the bag pressed against the rotating rear wheel and tore right off. I'm strongly considering this to replace it and I think it will sit nicely between my top and down tube.
They have a new model out which is probably better. Looks like it has a better zipper design. Also consider evergreen threadworks. He can custom make you a bag and the prices are responsible.
Hope he’s ok. What bike does he have? I need to upgrade my kids bikes
He's just fine and was back on the back after a week. He's riding a Rocky Mountain Growler Jr. I'm planning on doing a video on it soon. The geo on the bike is the closed thing I found to a scaled down adult enduro-ish bike (in a hardtail). The front suspension isn't awesome, but it does absorb bigger hits. Honestly, you don't want anything sophisticated when they're that young; you won't be able to dial in suspension for them as they are still learning, plus the rougher ride only makes them a better rider. The biggest thing I looked for was a slacker headtube angle and something long that provided stability at high speeds, which this thing has. This crash was the closed he's come to going OTB, but it still didn't happen. He basically didn't have the upper body strength to stay on the bike.
Get him on bigger wheels asap. Bikes for little kids suck. Glad the little guy is ok!
Saving for his next bike now. 24" wheels is going to blow his mind. :)
Nice video also you can upgrade your fox float to the performance elite version buy adding the blue cap for Low Speed Compression adjusment
I literally have the upgrade kit on my dining room table. 😉
The patrol crew there is awesome. They take good care of us who crash a lot.
Yeah, some workers offered to call them out, but we were right at the bottom. The medics at the clinic were awesome.
Your young man did awesome at Trestle BP and glad he was ok. Good to see he was Mr, Spider-Man about 2 hours later 😂. I wish I could do that after a crash 😊.
Kids recover so quickly! His new elbow pads came in this week and he's ready to get back out. 😀
You and I have completely different definitions of “perfectly safe”… This kid could have broken bones, to include his fragile neck - that’s why he’s still in a car seat genius. This kid just loves spending time with his dad and you’re going to get him seriously hurt forcing him into YOUR hobby. Then posting your child’s pain, with a 4x replay and slo-mo, just for likes and attention?? You should be ashamed of yourself. Grow up dude!
We put kids in car seats because we send them down double black highways going 75 mph. Also, kids are made of rubber. Be sure to like and subscribe!
Sorry you guys went through that! Glad he's ok, have seen some bad wrecks there. I do think he should be sticking on the greens, there is plenty of speed and features for his age and skillset. Consequences are too high to risk it.
Yeah, we'll probably do a few green runs before we hit the blues next time.😅
Great parenting! You took your 6 year old son down a difficult trail that the park rates as a blue flow and didn’t tell him about a rock drop. And before that, you took him down a black diamond rated trial. Not only setting him up to get hurt but also clogging up and slowing down the trails for other riders. Great job.
Ha, "this guy." My son has been riding trails with me since the age of 2, and he likes it. He wants to go back. I'm going to take him. He'll look back on his life and remember the biking, camping, fishing, and skateboarding adventures I took him on with fondness. Yeah, I call that great parenting. I'll take your words as a compliment. Cheers.
This kid rides these trails faster than most adult tourists that “clog the trails”. The trails aren’t just for fast riders!
1. There was no " Black" trail in this video, I get around 500-600 miles in at trestle every summer, and the whole time in the video they were on blue or lower trails, not that it would be a problem for them to ride a black. 2. That bottom section of long trail where he crashed has multiple lines. That rock drop has a way around it, and the dad probably just blanked on it, thats ok. Also, the kids only going to learn by riding and picking his own lines. The dad was not "setting him up" to get hurt at all, he was letting his son experience and learn the sport the way we all do, by trial and error. 3. In no way were they "clogging up" the trails. Trestle has a comp team, and bike school for riders as young as 4-5 and they ride those trails all day, and the only trails with "no stopping" designations are black and double black trails. They're allowed to go at whatever pace they are comfortable with, and as long as they are following basic trail etiquette, (which they were) they're allowed, and should be on the trails just as much as anyone else. Grow up and stop picking on a kid on the internet because he rides better than you. And to the little man himself, you were ripping out there! Keep it up, you have an awesome dad. Soon enough he'll be racing to keep up with you.
@@noahmac3247 very well said. It’s always satisfying to see when someone who actually knows or has researched correctly rebuts a Karen comment.
What an AWESOME kid!!! Athletic, intelligent, and so brave. He must have an awesome mom !😂...and his dad is pretty cool too for sharing his love of mountain biking!
He is an awesome kid alright. Mom does a great job sorting and filtering all the nonsense I throw at him. 😊
Was there not a smallest rental chesty for the kiddo? He’s wearing all his pads but the chesty……
Not a bad idea! Didn't think of it. I mean, I didn't think he was going to crash in the first place so there's that.
Been there, done that! My childhood hero was Evel Knievel. Used to jump all kinds of stuff when I was a kid on my Schwinn Stingray. Broke both legs (on separate occasions, 8 & 10 yrs old) performing stunts. My parents took my bike away after the second crash. 😆 .....but I'm MTB'ing in my late 50's now. Never lost my love for cycling.
They took your bike away! That's hardcore. I got into MTBing late in life but I love it. Glad I can introduce it to my son at an early age.
Man that scream cut through me. My son and I were riding though a camp ground after hitting a XC trail, he hooked his front wheel and did a nose dive into the gravel. He made the same sound and holy crap thought he was going to be out of commission for a while. 2 hours later and some duct-tape, band-aids, and ice-cream he was out riding with other kids.
The scream is a sound of horror. You have no idea if it's a small scrape or if there are broken bones. But they bounce back so quickly!
This is how we all learned to MTB, the best thing is that you were there when the first crash inevitably happened. Glad he recovered quickly, kids are remarkably resilient.
Yeah, I try teaching him "do this", "don't do that", but in the end he just has to experience it. ...It's not like he listens to me anyway. :)
@TheSaucyMTBr as a father of a 6 year old boy and a 3 year old daughter, I can 100% relate to “it’s not like he listens to me anyway”.
Your son is a ripper! Those scabs are marks of courage and evidence of progression. Keep it up buddy!
Yeah, he's excited to get back out there (after his new elbow pads come in). The joys of riding definitely over shadow these rare crashes.
Man, I could hear the joy in your yell when he was shredding those trails. Proud dad moment to a low point when he crashed. Scary moment for sure but wont stop him I am sure.
Oh he's already excited to go back! He's got the mountain bike bug for sure.
6 years old and was destroying that trail! i definetly couldnt do better 🤣
I had him riding local trails on a strider bike when he was 2. He' s going to be out-biking me before I know it.
oh that little man, that broke my heart. I can't imagine how you felt. But like I said, looks like a case of getting really scared for the first time. I'm glad he's good! BTW, he was ripping up to that point!
I was pretty upset with myself to be honest, then the told me he was having a blast and wants to go back! Maybe next month.
Im sad for your son 😢❤
Don't worry, he's fine. I got his permission to post this video and he 100% approved. :)
@@TheSaucyMTBr ok thank god He’s okay 🙏❤️
😮😮😮😮
It's just "SideArm", not SideChick 😃
Is the headset angle adjustable?
It is. You just have to replace the top headset cup with the appropriate offset. The frame comes with a 0, -1, and +1 degree options.
@@TheSaucyMTBr I just got a brand new one from a shop already built up. It didn't come with an extra headset cup. If it comes with the frame, I should ask for it right?
@@JPannel I would! most definitely.
@@TheSaucyMTBr thank you!
Always had a soft spot for the evo. Love bike builds in general. Question, what did you use to degrease the new chain?
Just plain ol Simple Green. Left it overnight then a quick wash with dish soap to get the residue off.
@@TheSaucyMTBr that works pretty well?
Worked great. After a few hours I gave the tray a little jiggle for about a minute. I suppose you could use a spray degreaser, but I wanted to get all of it off, even between the links. That grease is a dirt magnet.
LMAO love the end ..
Hahaha. Yeah, I can't say my wife was pleased, but she got over it.
Can you install coil shock in this frame?
Yes, but it’s not very well suited to one because of its kinematics. Given the nature of the bike, air suits it perfectly. If your going extra hard, get an enduro
Thelostco made a couple vids covering coil shocks on stumpy evo
Son- Mom can we have stipe miocic -mom “We have stipe at home”
Thanks for the review! What size in litres is it?
This is the 1L (or medium) size. Looks like it's been replaced with a weather-proof version, which looks better all around. This one gets soaked if you rinse it off with a water hose, as does the contents. The new one looks to have a nicer zipper as well, in the sense that it doesn't wrap all the way around the unit. While nice on paper, the zipper continues to be an annoyance for me, as it gets hard to use when it gets dirty and the corners don't help. As a workaround, a quick squirt with my water bottle after my ride loosens it up immediately. In any event, the new bag looks to solve both of those issues.
man....if that rim was not a gift from someone who passed away i seriously cannot undersans the effort! yet i have to say the video is great !!!! makes me feel great for the time i spend on fixing my bike
It's been going strong for over a year now. I was actually looking at new rims today. I'll get around to fixing it for real eventually. :)
Broo😂. I love how he keeps ringing the bells. Go pro chest view from a kid is adorable
I have to admit, this is my favorite video. We put a lot of miles on that bike. Great times. :)
@@TheSaucyMTBr good to hear. Good job dad
Clearly u love ur bike to invest ur time like that. Good workmanship. 👍👍👍👍
I was actually saving my money to buy my kid a new bike. He's had his bike for a year now, I still run that janky rim. 😆
Like your channel. You are a good rider. I ride similar conditions and climb a lot. Which bikes are you liking these days? I am thinking of picking up a Trail Pistol frame as GG is OOB and the bikes are inexpensive. Do you think parts will be a problem? Ever ride DW Link bikes like the Pivots or IBIS? Corporate jobs suck.
Hey, thanks for the kind words. The Trail Pistol was a great bike. I broke my stays and GG warrantied them with a Smash kit, which is what I'm on now and I love it. I've also tried the Gnarvana, awesome bike, but it's a bit too much travel for the Colorado front range, IMO. Canfield Bikes is selling spare GG parts, though I'm not sure how long they will have inventory. But you're right, GG bikes are inexpensive on the used market now and I plan on just buying spare frames as I need parts. Gonna keep this thing going for as long as I can! (Also, never personally tried Pivot or Ibis, but I had been eyeing down a Ripmo before I went with GG). Cheers!
Zipper trick -> rub a candle on the teeth. Often helps.
Been meaning to try this! If it starts sticking because it's dirty, I just squirt it with my water bottle and it opens up. Wax would definitely help.
I didnt know Seth Rogen rebuilds shocks!
Ugh, you and all my friends, and even that high schooler from Pizza Hut, suck!
You know thats a complement, right?
...I never considered it like that. This changes everything. 😉 Seriously, I've been hearing that for like 15 years. Maybe there's some truth to it. 😆 Also, my comments are typically filled with sarcasm. seriously, no offense was taken.
I like your work reapring that rim but I think it can be dangerous, is'nt it?
They say mountain biking can be dangerous, but we don't listen to them do we? 😉 Honestly, at the time I repaired this rim, I was being cheap because I was saving up to buy my kid a new bike. That said, I'm still riding it and it's been almost a year. ... I might be more apprehensive if it was my front tire.
Years ago I normally rode my daughter with me on the bike and I had done a repair by re-welding the fork but it ended up breaking and it was not in the mountains but doing some errands and we both fell but I think I put my daughter at risk, fortunately Nothing happened to us, just the scare in a congested place, I had to walk at least three kilometers to get home and I understood that safety comes first, but thank to share your experience. @@TheSaucyMTBr
Dude, this beautiful 4k movie demonstrates the tender love you have for your wheel. I also came here thinking I'd see the crescent/pliers method only to be mesmerized by a class of effort and sophistication that ones loved ones should receive. Watching you shred through the trail and that same rock garden descent at the end was award winning 🎉🎉🎉 and truly a thing of beauty. You are one of a kind Sir! God bless you
Literally the most uplifting comment ever. Thank you for your kind words. 🙂
Super helpful! Thank you.
I applaud you for repairing it especially in this through away society. That's motivation to try and fix it until it's unsafe.
Who said it was safe? 😉 it's actually held up great and I don't baby it at all.
Is this rim that expensive? simply buy new one.
New rim is about $100, but at the time I was saving to buy my kid a new bike. The kid now has his bike and the rim is still holding up, so why waste money? Besides, the satisfaction in spending 10+hours at 2am each night to save a buck is totally worth it. 😉
I’d have had you a new rim fitted and trued in a morning. I think you’re a closet carpenter who won’t face his true calling…..
Thanks great video just finished my first full service and the shock is not responding very well. It’s very soft adding air pressure is not making it any more harder. What did I do wrong?
Hmmm.... Did you forget to add air to the damper? I'm assuming it's holding air in the air can...
Thanks for your help . It was the o-ring between neg. And pos. Chamber, it had the smallest nick in it.@@TheSaucyMTBr
@@rg8707 Good fine! Sounds like a tricky one to debug, given the defect in the oring was so small.
Wow! That was one epic repair.
I use Raceface Ride pedals. No sharp metal pins.
👍
Came here looking for the pliers and crescent wrench method...
I hope that what you actually found was magical to your eyes. 😆
On my wife’s pedals, I replaced the traction screws with nylon m4 screws that are typically used for circuit boards. It works surprisingly great
That is totally genius, and I will definitely try that! Thanks for the tip.
Using the drill press as a makeshift lathe was chefs kiss. Bravo, sir 👏
