OP's timing - exposing Mark at Emma's wedding - was questionable, but Emma didn't blame him for it, on the contrary she hugged him and thanked him, so in the end it was the right call. It's also interesting how some people were still defending Mark when it was "just" infidelity (multiple cases of it, no less) and didn't stop defending him until it turned out he was stealing/defrauding. So that's the moral line in the sand they draw? Serial-infidelity is a mere shrug of the shoulders, no big deal. Just don't steal money, then we'll be upset with you! Morally bankrupt people. The mom had a known problem with finances. At no point did she ever think maybe I should go to a financial management class to get better because that’s not what she wanted. She loved spending beyond her means and then when the debt came in, that’s when she would tighten her belt And pull the sympathy card of “I can’t afford to help my daughter financially with college or give her nice things because of all this debt, woe is me”. I commend the aunt for wanting to help OP, but the cousin blew that secret plan out of the water by mentioning it which caused more family drama. And I was already thinking that the stepfather had to go when he decided to take a job four hours away from where OP and her mom live and convince the mom to help him rent an apartment, which doubled the financial responsibility that he likely wasn’t really contributing to. But he’s so quick to jump in with the whole loyalty thing when it comes to money because he knows he would benefit less from being unable to keep the Mom under his control. And then, when it came out how the mom spent the grandmother‘s inheritance, the minute it was said that he was the one who suggested the vacation, that was the nail in the coffin that said he had to go. The mother was already bad with money but him being in the picture just made a 10,000 times worse because he seems just as bad he’s just riding her coattails. All this time I just kept saying OP should just stay with her friend or her aunt or her boyfriend because once the whole plan about the financial help for college came out, OP was in a hostile home life because the constant jabs and the silent treatment and the online campaign…. Who would wanna live with their parents when that’s what’s going on in the household? And then even more hostility once the secret about how the inheritance has spent, came out and a constant emotional manipulation….”threatening” OP to move out if “she can’t keep family secrets” wasn’t much of a threat and more of a blessing because it gave her an out. And honestly it’s good for OP keeps distance between herself and her mom because if OP is a job that’s really good and pays well, her mom will just come around and ask to “ borrow money” that she can’t even pay back because she has so many others to pay back, and then pull the card of “I’m your mother and you’re my child, you should wanna help me out”.

When my mom introduced me to her then boyfriend I was a bit confused but the only reason I don't call him dad was because 1. My dad was in the picture and he still is; 2. I was sixteen when we got introduced so it was a bit late anyway but we still have nice relationship.

I'm over 40. I hear this, and can only hear that the teacher was probably right. I watch students "try" and whenever a teacher says that to a student, it's because they literally aren't picking up a pencil and trying the problem. Kids are so ridiculous. Teachers bend over backward to help students. They put up with so much shit from teenagers, who are completely blind and arrogant to their own bad behavior. I've taught high school math for the last couple years. Watching the kids just makes me realize what an arrogant jerk i probably was as a teen! You think that you're grown and have it all figured out when you're that age.
