2018 GSXS 1000 Mid-Pipe Installation & De-Cat Project

- This version edited with the free Openshot Video Editor software - Sorry guys, I filmed with the phone vertical, my bad, but if watching as a tutorial on your computer it should be OK though. I used Pixel 4a, 1080p. Before, during, after, de-cat and installation. Gain estimated (weight removed and hp) I would say equivalent to about 10hp. Noticeable gain in acceleration and peps, amazing! Hi riders, so today I installed the T-Rex slider and Cover set. Fit is very good, but could be improved a bit. Overall, i think the bike is still looking good. Let me know your thoughts on these sliders. The led flasher relay I bought is not working as described by seller on eBay. I need to get a different one, so no led lights yet. Enjoy the video! How do u remove the lid ive took all screws out and still wont come off
If you're talking about the whole air box, you also need to loosen the brackets on the admission pipes under the airbox
If it's just about the lid, make sure you've unscrewed every screws, one is a deep reach in a well
Going to be doing this on my '24 fri. Grabbed a K&N and going to take the airflow restriction panel out.
Bonjour. Vous sentez une grande amélioration ?
Non pas une grande
Can someone tell me where can i also get a decat PLLSS
On Aliexpress site
Sounds crappy
just asking ---- whey -- you had a perfectly working bike faster then most is able to handle that don't upset your community or other on the road and now you haw a bike that eventually will destroy it self if you don't get it flashed and the only thing you then haw is more sound les km litter and if you are lucky a few hp more
Any problems since doing this I’m getting ready to install new plugs and KN air filter in mine and I plan on removing the plate myself and adjusting my PC5 for the extra air in and air out. Just finished up my exhaust got a GP shorty from Leo Vince a custom 21/2 inch mid pipe with headers! Sounds amazing! Even has a little lope like a drag car! I’m gonna install a 2 step to for drag racing.
No problem at all. Sounds even a bit better once airflow limiter removed!
Hey Jean, where did you buy this mid pipe? do you mind sharing the link?
AliExpress
I watched your video, ordered my part, followed your easy to follow instructions and I am so happy with the way my bike sounds now. going to get my ECU flashed by 2 wheel dyno works in seattle next week, the throttle is choppy now and I dont like it. and I want pops and bangs and unrestricted fuel mapping.
How do you remove that metal inside after the cut
ua-cam.com/video/UjdhDakxOrE/v-deo.html
💪💪
is an engine tune necessary after cat delete?
ECU flashing always best, but if you keep the exhaust valve the bike will still run very ok. I didn't flash ECU on mine and it's all good after 6kkm
@@grandjean5605 thanks for the response. Where I live, I dont engine have tuning facility. Glad to hear it will be fine.
Do not decat without running a tune or they will run lean till they detonate. They are tuned for backpressure@@sanjaydamodaran3219
Good job and does dound very nice...... You need to reflash! Just because the exhaust valve is working means nothing! Reflash my friend and the motor will run much much better. Even with the stock setup a reflash does wonders. With doing such a major exhaust change it’s imperative!
Did you have any leaks where the mid pipe attaches to the stock headers? It looks like there was a small gap on the clamp cut outs
Nope, no leak at all. Fitting is quasi perfect.
Very helpful thank you
Very good video, do you think it would be possible to cut only the first layer of metal and remove all the ceramic without damaging it? It is not appreciated if that part is loose.
No it's not possible with regular tools because the catalyst part is somehow welded inside.
Good morning sir. i watch sir your video wow is very good and informative thanks for sharing this. after you installed all, you also re- map or you use it as normal? i'm planning also to remove my 2020.thank you and ride safe.
I didn't remap the ECU. Engine runs just good as it is, the computer being able to somehow adjust good enough. When I previously removed the air flow reducer in airbox, I noticed it took about 300-400km to the ECU to adjust. So ECU can self learn and adjust a bit by itself and by deleting only the cat, the valve is not removed so back pressure isn't excessive. Consequently, In my understanding, no need to flash ECU unless you want a fine tuning. If the valve was deleted, then for sure you would need a remapping of the ECU. Cheers
@@grandjean5605 wow nice info sir..thank you again.actually it is my first ever bigbike so i decided it carefully..thank you and Godbless..
@@MotoPrimeroGSXS good choice for a first big one! it's a reliable bike with surprisingly good specs for the price. You'll have really good fun! Ride smart, and safe 🏍️🏍️
Petite question tu l'as trouvé où cet intermédiaire de remplacement ?

Congrats. I have no regret decat mine and now using Austin Racing muffler ☺️

Thanks for making this. Now I have a visual of how to do it..
Just did the cat delete! Came out perfect!! And I Absolutely love the sound!!! Perfect!!
It's nice isn't it? 👏🏻👏🏻 Ride safe!
is an engine tune necessary after cat delete?
@@sanjaydamodaran3219 absolutely!!!!
I’m thinking of doing this my 2019 gsxs.. what are the main benefits and issues that come with removing the cat? And also thank you for that video! Very informative!!
Benefits: bike is a bit more responsive, feels more willing to go (few more HP). Exhaust is louder and somehow more pleasant to hear, but still in an acceptable range. Slightly using less gas (~0.5L less) Issues: exhaust sound. You might avoid core downtowns if police is strict.
@@grandjean5605 thank you for quick reply! I’m no where near a city so i might go with doing this! You think the sound will get annoying on long rides?
@@killajr51 for long trip yes, earplugs a must! Up to 1\2 to 1 hour is ok. But for long trip yes! For me, I always wear earplugs during long rides anyways, you know, you don't want to be deaf at 60yo ;)
I've heard that the exhaust valve is for nothing more than noise reduction, so what about removing it and connecting a servo buddy to prevent the F1 engine code? I mean, removing the cat changes the exhaust flow far more than the exhaust valve does, so if the cat removed does not require a remap, why would the exhaust valve removal? Thoughts?
Yes you can bypass the valve but i believe that then you need to flash ECU to refine the injection to avoid premature valves breakdown (back pressure issues). When flashing ECU you can also delete F1 light due to the removal of servo control, no need extra servo control. But you can put one too in case not flashing ECU. But honestly, in my opinion, money speaking, not worth it, as the gain in power wouldn't change much more. May be 2 or 3 HP more only, but mainly just a better mapping of the carburation. Right now, very satisfied with this easy mod!
@@grandjean5605 So......you're telling me that removing the entire cat converter did not affect back pressure? That's ridiculous.....of course it did! A whole lot more than just removing the valve, without a doubt!
@@michaelbrill6609 did i say that? Hmmm i think you over interpreted my words ;) but may be i should have had the word 'more'. To avoid 'more' back pressure issues ...
@@grandjean5605 Whatever......I talked to some more folks who have a better understanding of the system.
@@michaelbrill6609 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Enjoy easy free power!
The ECU took ~2 days/400km to adjust itself
how to ruin your engine-- run no silencer
Absolutely false. Only thing it will do it lean air fuel mixture out slightly in this case. Simple remap or dyno tune would fix this.
Lol you are a complete idiot. The a/f literally will NOT change at all. The end muffler is straight through with no down size on the internal piping. It will make 0 difference in power or a/f.. the O2 sensor is still intact and you don’t touch the cat or exhaust valve. I’ve been a bike mechanic for 17 years. Please don’t make asinine internet warrior comments without proper understanding of basic principles. You will actually gain the benefit of having less off set weight mass on the right side of the bike
What size is the stock pipe?
51mm.
thanks a lot, that bike actually sounds fantastic and not too intrusive without the muffler, just what im looking for, now the fun part...to fabricate a nice looking pipe
You can buy a short pipe on ebay ( better mod would be a mid pipe ;D)
I have the "F" version in the same color scheme and to me Suzuki knocked it out of the park with this series. Such a beautiful bike with a beast of an engine. I LOVE these bikes. They are way underrated. My buddies who ride Yamaha R1's and BMW S1000's were shocked when this bike held it's own against them. hahahaha. This bike hauls ass. I told them it has the 05-08 GSX-R engine in it and then they were like " Oh that explains it". They now love this bike too. lol Your naked is badass lookin by the way. I almost got the naked version but when i saw the faired one, i had to have it due to the sport bike-ish looks. Love the upright position too. It's comfortable on long rides. I gotta get me some of those sliders too. Nice! Ride safe and be safe out there bro. Cheers.
Thanks! Indeed very enjoyable on everyday basis, road or track. Would like and for sure need a bit more power though, like +30 to be able to follow s1000rr after 3rd gear...
@@grandjean5605 Have you unleashed all the hidden power in these bikes? Torque is your friend. Have you done anything to the bike in upgrades for performance? I bough mine semi upgraded. Lots more to do though.
@@Gexxon no didn't do major upgrades like full exhaust and pc. Not worth the money for only ~+10hp. Better go on diet and lose 35lbs lol...
Linda
The only issue is the exhaust valve. Just eliminate it with an adapter and youre good to go! Nice Sound, and not to loud. No need to remove the middle cat, in my opinion its to loud then and not comfortable.
Do you have a video of that?
Yeah how do you eliminate it?
I just bought a Yoshi r11 black magic and im doing the headers next , yes it is expensive here in uk ,£700 exhaust and £800 for the headers , still need pcv and tune then haha .....ahh its good fun .
Awesome!
Changed my mind on pcv going for Woolrich software tune , heard bad things about the power commander .
The cat is the issue. Remove that and you'll get the sound you were hoping for. GSXS's are famously loud bikes in stock form so only a straight through exhaust will increase the volume. Gone are the days that slip on pipes give you bhp gains and volume.
I bought the full M4 exhaust. Holy crap what a difference. Oh, get a tuner if you do this!
You're right but i'm planning on selling the bike this year, so no more money in for modifications!
Linda sem comentários 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

on all 1000cc the new one they make it becasuse the DB law in Europe but full yosimura and powercommander and oxygen cutter and also a trottle valve elminator and finaly remap but expensive here in sweden that mod cost 2432.75 EUR cheaper mod is cut the pipe after that box and skip powercommander and remap and install pipe middle
Joe yep same here, quite expensive @ ~ C$ 2000. I thought about cutting just before cat and replace with pipe as you says but haven't found yet a trustable welder able to do a nice job on stainless steel...
Full yoshimura system and reflash and job done mate , no need for pcv or and other gadgets , still expensive , £380 for full remap and £1600 for yoshimura system ,oh and £50 for k&n filter .
Linda demais!! Estou na dúvida entre essa ou a 750 ! Parabéns linda moto!!
Fernando Dos Santos 1ooo!
Yeah, this is the reason why if you want a good sound, you will need change the full system with a sport catalyser, not only a Slip-on. The GSX-S 750 hasn't got this problem. I dont know why they made the 1000 cc bike with this exhaust system. Good video!!.
Van der Gon Rides yep you're right. I guess it's all about homologation...
You just need to buy a cat converter in eBay ,and a slip on , cheaper than a full system and works the same

What's the torque on the frame sliders?
Go Faster supposed to be 10-13 pound/feet but I didn't use the torque wrench as it's a dry screw (no gasket behind)
Grand Jean I just called the dealer they said 60lbs just want you to know so you have the right specs
I didn't use torque wrench just went by experience... still ok after riding one season and 6kkm ;) usually I follow generic torque chart: Thread diameter (mm) - pound/feet so 8mm/10-13, 10mm/19-25, 12mm/33/45, 14mm/54-72. I have a tendency now to under tighten because quality of screw/bolt not as good as before and I broke few trying to torque at specs (i.e. rear caliper screw on my gsxs). And I use blue loctite, so peace of mind. Indeed around 50 seems what's needed. my bad giving you info by memory!
