SO EASY! Corner-to-Corner HDC stitch pattern!
Corner-to-corner stitch pattern is fantastic for everyone, especially using half-double crochet. Perfect for beginners! This is the stitch I used for my very first large project and I come back to it again and again - if I could do it, so can you!
Use C2C easily for any size triangle, square, or rectangle shaped project. Stay to the end and I show you the simple variation for C2C with double crochet stitch.
For the blanket shown here I used 2200 yards of a DK weight yarn, using 6 rounds of half-double crochet stitches for the border (put 3 HDC stitches in each corner stitch when you go round).
Blanket size: 50" x 55"
Yarn: Cakes Melange, by Ice Yarns (Turquoise & Grey colorway)
Hook: 5.5 mm

WELCOME TO MY WORLD! All things yarn and crochet
I've done a number of dc C2C baby blankets. I had never considered a hdc C2C. It seemed to be the perfect stitch for a laghan I wanted to make. I am beginning to decrease one side of that lapghan and am most happy with the fabric it is creating. The 3d stitch pattern is wonderful. The resulting fabric is soft and cushy. I don’t know if I will do another C2C in dc again. Thanks for sharing this version of C2C.
I wish you had made the sample just a few rows bigger, it would make it easier to see just how to work the rows. Beautiful blanket though!
M..Julie?..do you realize you have created the PERFECT TUTORIAL? U have wished dor years that people would draw a quickie little pattern chart and keep it on display during the tute…for those of us that don’t need the details of a DC, it’s WONDERFUL, not only that, your instruction is great as you explain the logic behind thepattern…and weirdly, I LOVE FPDC,…but I HATE BPDC…this beautiful pattern has just the one….wow!…this video is a home run…awesome?..?love love the diagram….this could wind up being the trademark of your channel!…♥️♥️♥️
Hi Julie 😬 I’ve just watched your excellent video on the hdc corner to corner blanket so came to see your first video. I totally agree about the goddess of Yarn, Crystal at BOD! Mine also since 2015. I like your genuineness and have subscribed 💜🇬🇧
It’s a pretty blanket. But I’ll never get it. I might order the yarn but this is way past my level.
Hi Julie. Half double is my favorite stitch, so this really has peaked my curiosity. Thanks for that! 💜🧶🤟🏼
This is great then - C2C just flies with the HDC! Can't wait for you to try it
Less talk before showing how to work pattern
Really enjoyed the video, very interesting and I love the details you gave on the various yarns, very helpful 😊
Ty tried the raverly page doesn’t seem to work fyi
thanks for letting me know, I'm not sure why not though of course it works for me since it's my project so i can't find where it's going wrong just yet. The same information is in the video description so you're not missing much except saving it on Ravelry if you use it.
@@JuliesWorldCrochetThe pictures of the finished blanket is showing but no pattern is shown on how to make it. I saved the page to my favorites and put in the notes to go to your UA-cam channel for how to make it. I like the way you just do two chains when you start decreasing instead of slip stitching up the side of the block to start the row. I love the colors of that yarn. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for a great tutorial and a wonderful option for C2C's.
Thanks! The HDC variation is a real favorite!
Julie, it's so great to hear from you again. ❤ Your blanket is lovely. I recently finished making two small C2C blankets for my grandchildren. 😊Thanks for the helpful advice on changing the double crochets to half double crochets, very clever.
I love the HDC variation - so much faster to work up and still gorgeous! Can't wait to do more - as I recover I'm getting back in the groove!
Another great video ❤. The Alpine stitch combined with the basket Weave stitch is brilliant as well as beautiful. The Corner to Corner blanket is lovely and handsome, a blanket certainly befitting a gentleman 😊. I love your idea 💡 of doubling up the yarns for one blanket, which provides extra squishy softness. Also, it must be said that your Waffle stitch blanket is simply gorgeous. I ❤️ love your beautiful blankets and i am sure they will make the receiver's heart smile with great joy. Keep up the great work 👍
Julie, those are indeed very lovely yarns. I could sit and chat yarn with you all day. I am looking forward to more wonderful videos and seeing your amazingly beautiful projects ❤️ take care ❤and have an awesome day 😊
thanks so much! Your support is wonderful! Part 2 coming out shortly with cakes yarns and a look at the projects I'm doing with them.
I'm so glad your back!! So wonderful to see your face! I'm glad your ok! When it rains it pours.... I'm so glad your ok!
Thanks Marti! Getting things recovered now!
Welcome back❤ It's so nice to see you again. I sure missed your lovely videos.😊
Thank you! 😊
I’m so happy to see your beautiful face. That blanket is BEAUTIFUL!!! Just wow!🤩
It is really great to see you back. I hope 🙏 everything gets better for you soon, but if not, just know that you are always beautiful ❤️ to us. Wowwwwe that's a beautiful blanket you are working on. I love the colours, you have chosen. I look forward to seeing more of your amazing videos 📹 😍 take care, and God bless you 🙏
Your tutorial is especially clear and helpful. Drawing the pattern out on cards and relating them to the crochet helps us learn to read both our own work and other charts. Thanks! 😊
Thank you! That's so good to hear because it helps me too yet I don't want to bore or frustrate people with my talking
Благодарю!
Good luck on your journey, crochet is awesome. I'm 67 years old and taught myself to crochet when I was 57. I have a medium yarn collection and make blankets for my local shelters. Again enjoy your crochet journey.
Looking forward to that gray blanket tutorial, I like the different textures of the stitches.😊
Thanks! I just finished it today so tutorial is asap next!
“You stubbed a toenail? Let me crochet you something.” TRUTH
I love your beautiful texture blanket ❤ it's great, and your border will be perfect. The ombre colour is a lovely delight and the scarf set you are making for your friend will be greatly treasured and appreciated i am sure. I look forward to seeing your amazing top with this yarn.❤ There are so many favourite musical 🎶 tunes, i adore, but for a good bye playlist the following four tracks would be a must. Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, The River of Dreams by Billy Joel, Saved by Bob Dylan and of course Beautiful Day by U2.❤😊not sure what order but those would have to be there for sure.
Hallelujah - yes! That's on my list too, and I also love Beautiful Day. Of all things, I've never heard Saved, I just listened now and it's a good one. I want a good blues song myself and haven't found *just the right one yet. I'm glad you shared, it's so nice to learn about other people and be open to variety in the world :) Thanks.
Thanks for the great informative video 😊❤. The blanket you made is very beautiful and looks lightweight and airy. This would also make a great wrap or shawl as well. Thanks again for the helpful and encouraging video 📹 😀 ❤
Thanks! I think it'd be a lovely wrap also but I haven't tried it yet. One of my favorite stitch repeats so far. If you do it, I'd love to how it turns out for you!
Ohhhh your baby blanket is beautiful!!!! I can’t wait to learn it!
It's so easy! I can't wait for you to try it
Hi. Hope you’re subscribed to BagODay Crochet Crystal. She shows a lot of yarns, yarn companies and great tutorials.
Hi Julie
Hi there! So glad you stopped by my channel!
I do not have aphantasia, but neurological things fascinate me too. I've never heard about people in dreams being only people you've seen before, but I do dream a lot with people I know and celebrities sometimes, so I guess they fill out the "cast" so to speak. My mind's eye is usually 3D and color, depending on what I'm thinking about, and can include my other senses as well, such as smell or taste or touch. I've done arts and crafts my entire life, starting with latch hook (taught by my grandma). I did a ton of counted cross stitch as a teen/young adult, and then spent another decade or two on scrapbooking/card making. I picked up loom knitting several years ago, but it was hard on my hands/wrists and I wanted to make garments more easily, so I learned crochet via the Woobles with my husband in Feb 2023 and haven't looked back since! I crochet nearly every day. My next favorite artistic expression is painting (I painted my logo).
That's so interesting to me, I can't imagine what the experience is like to 'see' in your head, thanks for telling me. you know I didn't even consider the color/no color thing but now I know why - it's neither. I KNOW what the dream is and what color things are, but not because I see them in my head. We have a bunch in common - I did cross-stitch when I was young, too, and spent a number of years with scrapbookng. I've never really tried knitting though. Your logo looks great, I love the sky. I love painting but I struggle so hard to do it, especially perspective, and I'd never be able to create what I want for my own logo.
Will be back later today:)
Good morning 🌞
Good morning!
Your blanket looks beautiful, and i love the variety of stitches you have used. I am looking forward to seeing 👀 your wonderful blanket once you have the trim completed. I sometimes use a round plastic loom to make things, and once in a while, i will take out some threads and a needle and do needle 🪡 tatting but my heart is with crocheting. I find i am able to be more creative with my crocheting. It was great as always visiting with you and seeing your amazing progress on the lovely blanket 😊 ❤
thank you, so glad you commented. I am with you on crochet - it feeds my soul. I had no idea when I started how much I'd love it!
Hi there Julie! So happy I found your video. Like you, I’m new to crocheting, just ordered my ‘1st haul’ from ice yarns to start building my stock. Thank you for introducing me to Herrschners. Im learning as I go, and am quickly learning what I don’t like. Currently, I’m making a small afghan using red heart super saver & I’m not a fan. I do have higher expectations for the ice yarns! Good luck to you😊
Hi! Ice yarn has been good to me so far, ditto Herrschner's (I've got a mini-order arriving any day now). Hope your yarn haul is awesome - some of my 'lets-try-it' yarns have been so-so but overall I've been really happy with my purchases there.
Hi Your blanket is coming along nicely. Love the basket weave stitch! Enjoyed watching & crocheting!
Hi Julie🥰
Hi! right back at 'cha! 😃
I love your blanket ❤ it is beautiful. I like windy weather as well. Living in the small town of Wawa, Ontario, we are on the northern shores of Lake Superior, and the wind constantly blows off that great lake, keeping us cool 😎 and refreshed 😀. For favourite movies 🎬 i always enjoy "Fiddler on the Roof, "not only is it an excellent story, but it's musical score can't be beaten. You have inspired me to attempt making a textured blanket. Perhaps another subject 🤔 you could chat about might be songs 🎵. I have so many favourite songs . Great work on your wonderful channel ❤ It's most enjoyable spending time with you. 😊
Thank you 💜This is the nicest comment. And I'm so glad because I've never seen Fiddler on the Roof and other than knowing it's successful, I've never known anyone who's seen it (I don't think). But I really love trying new things and the whole point was if it's a movie that strikes you, reaches you, stays with you - then you're recommending a worthwhile experience so of course I'll try it, a little bit of life enrichment. I hope you do try the blanket, it was so much easier/faster than I expected. As soon as the rest of my yarn comes in I can finish the border and I'll have a tutorial out asap for this design. Thanks much for watching!
I’m having a hard time seeing the stitches. The sun is coming through the window and making it super hard to see.🙃
I know, sorry. Tutorial is coming and another WIP n' Talk today that I did at night for exactly this reason. Thanks for letting me know, I can figure out how to solve it.
That is a beautiful blanket, Julie ❤😊 Yarnspirations is a great place for free patterns. Do you also buy your yarn from them? I usually order from them, and they have lots of beautiful yarns. We are readers in our household as well. My husband often reads 📚 to me while i crochet. At this time, he is reading "Little Women " by Louisa May Alcott. It's an oldy but goodie book 📖 all about sisters and growing up. ❤
Little Women is wonderful, I have fond memories with it. It sounds wonderful that he reads while you work, what a great way to include each other. I buy most often from Herrschner's - next week I'll have a short unboxing for my most recent order for y'all to see.
awesome work Julie! keep up the good work
I’ve enjoyed watching you. And I really relate to so much you said being a new crocheting person☺️.
I’m brand new too😃. I would love to make things with you.
That'd be wonderful! I have a couple new tutorials coming and going to be picking a new project we can all WIP together
All the best Julie
Hi Julie. Welcome to crochet I’ve been doing it for decades. I started at 12 so about 40 years. Following you to watch you grow. Good luck with your channel
Thank you! I'm learning more everyday. My Grammy was a home ec teacher and could crochet/sew/knit like a mf, so I'm really happy to be learning and glad to have you with me on the journey. thanks for the sub!
So pretty Julie! I'm gonna make one for me!
Julie, talk all you like you are a delight 😊 ❤❤ I love ❤️ the sweater you made. It's hard to believe you have only just started. Wowwwwe you are taking the crochet world 🌎 by storm. I am also a Canadian, my husband and i live in Wawa, Ontario. I am excitedly looking forward to watching your channel. Happy stitching ❤😊❤🧶♥️
Thank you! I'm loving this world. I'm putting up a stitch-with-me video in a few days for a summer top, hoping to get some patterns up for other beginners to do some projects that look fancy but are so so easy.
Nice sharing. Looking forward to more videos. I love Ice yarns too. The only downside is to buy in bulk so as to keep the shipping cost low.
I love the way you explain everything. This is a video i wish I would have had when I was learning. Keep these videos coming!
You're a fantastic teacher! You explain things super well, it's very easy to understand! I did notice one thing however, you crocheted into the back loop instead of both of the loops. This isn't a problem if you're wanting the look that it gives (that line at the bottom of every other row), however it could make things look a little funky depending on the pattern you're doing. (mainly plushies) It's a really common mistake, so I thought I'd let you know! I do love doing BLO (back loop only) with sc stitches to make ribbings for shirts. It makes a really nice stretchy, almost knit-like fabric.
Thank you! I really wanted to put all the bits that helped me learn into one video, even if it's a little longer than typical videos. And I can see how it might look like I did BLO but I promise I didn't, I think it looks like it because I kind of squeeze the yarn when I'm working - I'll have to mention it for the next one so no one's confused, glad you pointed it out. Thanks for joining me!
I love all the patterns you've made, but especially that second to last project, the blanket. The color scheme on that was gorgeous! I personally use variegated yarn as accents to projects. For instance, I will use a multicolored pink plush yarn with a white cow to make a cupcake themed cow, or a multicolored blue/pink/purple yarn with all the same solid colors when making a mermaid tail blanket to look like scales, etc. (I've done that last one and it comes out GORGEOUS) I also personally sell my crochet and have my own business doing it right now, but I plan on making a ton of blankets to use up yarn I collected years ago and then donating tubs of them to churches in my area. Those places are always FREEZING. You could also crochet things like cancer hats or newborn hats or newborn burial hats/gowns for hospitals. That's another goal of mine!
That's lovely, there's a number of good places to donate (upcoming I'm doing a child's blanket for Project Linus). On the variegated yarn - I totally agree, I've liked it best as an accent in my pieces. I think it's a me thing, I don't have that extra-creative design eye to make variegated yarn work like I imagine in my head. Maybe as I keep improving I'll get better at that too.
@@JuliesWorldCrochet exactly! I feel like the variegated yarn makes it look too crowded.
Hi Kulie. I thought about learning to knit..... then I decided naw I like to crochet.
My Grammy tried teaching me to knit every summer and it just never took the same way I enjoy crochet. Maybe one day, but it's not today. :)
Love the shawl and the cowl. Can you share the name of the patterns? Have a nice crafty week.
I wish I could. I've lost my notes for those pieces and made them before I planned a channel. As soon as I find them I'll absolutely be sharing them and put it in the description. thanks!
