Also..I'm on waiting list for NRCS. It may not get funding. So if I accept carbon credit will the NRCS be i linger possible? If i could do either, which is best? I just want my forest healthy.
Hi - please be in touch with our office about this: (207) 626-0005 or email jenn@mainewoodlandowners.org Thanks!
I have a ffcp offer. My readings...The lower offer seems to not endanger my tree growth tax benefit. The higher level may cause me to lose the tree growth benefit. Also being out of state..Tallahassee, Florida...the carbon payments would then cause me to pay Maine income tax...more paperwork headache that may not be worth it. Any opinions? Thanks
That you All 😊
Thank you all for this important information. It is very helpful!
Thank you ‼️
Thank you for sharing these
I have used the high stump method to try and get rid of about 30 acres of hornbeam here in ontario canada i cut only in the summer and the results were about the same as Ralfs no herbaside used
This was very informative, thank you
What a fraud, it has a fungus but NOT chestnut blight, BS.
I assume you’re a professor of biology at a University huh?
@MaineOffGrid. because only someone with thoae credentials could understand this?
@@khsuki1 Right. So what makes you believe that the Professor is wrong and a fraud? Pretty harsh words for a tenured professor.
I live close to a wildlife refuge in south east Mississippi. While exploring the area I have come across what appears to be a tire, wedged between trees, with string around it to secure it to them. It is about 6 or 7 foot up in the trees, and I have seen it twice in the area. Both tires were about the same height from the ground, both secured against the trees with string, like purposefully placed. One is in an area that generally floods in the spring, not sure if the water gets up high enough to reach it. The other I seen recently, and although it was along where a small runoff creak flows when it rains, water would never reach its height in that area. Ever heard of this, like is it something foresters use to mark something? I ask because I've only recently found the 2nd one as they were thinning out thickets on the refuge recently, exposing this. Thanks
Well done !
When is the next one scheduled?
We will probably schedule one for March. Visit www.mainewoodlandowners.org for more information.
I have had trouble trying to get white pine going on our land where there really is none and the deer have really hammered it. the red oak too. I think if it is planted in large enough numbers it would be ok. Being rare it's a delicay on our property.
he has a lot of hemlocks too how does he keep the deer from eating them
What is your opinion of the Chinese chestnut tree to plant in my yard for middle Tennessee?

Example spreadsheets would be great and I am an expert systems personnel and will only use as templates to build my own woodlot ledgers. Cliff Singer
Buffalo N.Y. buffalo has health stans of chestnuts squrls scater the seeds all around the naborhool wher the tree grow i usto lin in a naborhood it was. Call millionair row banker and railroad owners summer homes in buffalo cool er than nyc in summer tims
It’s great to see a couple large, more mature trees that are actually reproducing to the point where they’re seeding the next generation naturally. Keep up the good work. I’ll be planting some chestnuts this spring myself, from surviving native trees I found.
Any updates on progress. I'm in western North Carolina and I'd love to see if this is viable.
Bob looks the same as 13 years ago
I never knew multiflora rose wasn't native and even though it grows everywhere I don't think of it as invasive it grows in sun but not so good in shade I've seen it completely die out under the trees plus it's food for the animals that's how it spreads infact because of it's high nutrition and pretty flowers I planted it in my yard under the hemlock it's having a hard time same with my raspberry which seems to grow fine everywhere else
I just want my land to be cut and clean . I have seen many cuts and it looked like someone dropped a bomb on the property how do u get your property to look clean after a cut ?
This is awesome! Well done.
Thank you !!!
Are these American chestnut trees that have the blight resistant genes available to purchase ? If so where ? Thank you.
I have read that for a $300 membership at the American Chestnut Foundation you can get 3 or 4 seeds. I would do it but that seems a bit stiff.
@@sting1111 Thanks. I agree. I guess i will just keep adding more Dunstan chestnut trees
Gmos need to be studied further before we introduce this to make sure we dont contaminate our forests. nofa.org/2020/10/23/nofa-ic-opposes-release-of-the-darling-58-genetically-engineered-chestnut/ We have trees that survived we need to just support them and help them pollinate each other. I believe that the risks outweigh the benefit of gmos.
This is an excellent video. I want to help in chestnut restoration in the Missouri Ozark region. So here are a couple basic questions: First, do these trees have both sexes or is it male trees and female trees? Second, I have heard there are ridge trees and bottom trees. Are there preferred locations for different cultivars? Finally, what is the best source for common questions?
The chestnut tree is monoecious, meaning that both the male and female flowers exist on the same tree. You need to plant at least two trees. They are grown from nuts so they will not be the same exactly. I have 50 I grew from seed that are about 2 foot high. Most varieties should grow in the Ozarks. I am only growing Dungston. Good luck.
How much longer do we have to wait
Yeah, really. We're gonna just plant these chinese hybrids if you all don't pick up the pace. Testing my patience is what your doing. Talking about corn DNA thats an abomination before God probably.
I live in Livermore area, is there any way I could buy 54 of the nuts from you from your older trees? I am working on making an American Chestnut orchard and would like the diversity of the local Chestnut trees with blight resistance throughout Maine.
I know it's three months later but Fedco Trees sells Maine native American Chestnut saplings from blight survivors if you're still interested
@@geckoguy4141 thanks for the info. I will definitely look into it.
Just wanted to say thank you for all the information you provide especially on white pine I live in Ontario Canada and have been looking for a forester for 2 years and can't find any so I decided to educate myself and provide some of the best education on the internet thank you
