It's a great city considering it was mostly open farmland 60 years ago. Now it's a hub for agriculture and it has a young upwardly mobile population(100k) that is the workforce for Punta Cana. Big open market, numerous clubs and karaoke on the boulevard at night. Modern shopping centers with plenty of imported goods. Some rich sectors and very poor sectors. The Basilica was the tallest building in the country for many years and it's on the back of 50 pesos note.
