Snappa Grabba - Kayak Fishing & Adventure
New Zealand
Приєднався 28 тра 2022
I'm a keen kayak fisherman from Auckland, New Zealand. I also have a small inflatable boat and just getting into surfcasting and drone fishing (if that works out).
I share fishing trip videos and have started a segment called Tackle Talk where i share tips, tricks and hacks I've learnt or invented.
Hope you like my videos and subscribe, I'd love it if one day UA-cam would pay for my coffee..
I use an Insta360 X3 360 camera on my kayak. I like it because it captures EVERYTHING, then I can reframe it and set the "focus". Insta360 have just released a new model that captures 8K (it's less once you reframe it). If you are looking to buy one, I have an afiiliate link and earn a little commission. www.insta360.com/sal/x4?INROF02

Relaxing drone footage of McCallum Bay, Auckland, New Zealand
Had an awesome day out with the family, Some paddle boarding at Waitawa Regional park, Kawakawa bay. Then a bit of a "tiki tour" around Pakihi Island on our 4M True Kit Inflatable. A beach stop at McCallum Bay where I shot this footage and a blat back to Mataitai bay.
If you enjoyed this footage, let me know in the comments and I'll film some more.

Yakima Showdown Kayak Loader - Strapping tip - Snappa Grabba

The Yakima Showdown Kayak loader required you to feed the strap through the retaining points, which is a bit of a pain. I found some Double J hooks for $0.66 each from a company called Cookes in NZ. Making it easier to strap your yak on.

Yakima Showdown kayak loader roof rack on Ford Ranger- Snappa Grabba - Kayak Fishing

How easy is it to load and unload a large kayak with the Yakima Showdown? The Yakima Showdown (yes they like dramatic names) is a roof rack attachment that aids loading your kayak. This allows you to load a kayak at around waist height then easily lift it above the roof. I've added one thing that improves this product.

It's a question that gets asked a lot, especially in winter or colder months. Dressing for comfort and safety is very important and can make a huge difference to how enjoyable your time on the water is, and how long you're comfortable being out there. AVOID COTTON - Cotton Kills. Watch this video to see my recommendations.

Simple raw fish Salad with fresh Snapper, cucumber, capsicum, avocado, cherry tomatoes. What do you like in your raw fish salad? I caught some nice snapper on my kayak today, made this lovely raw fish salad, pan fried some and pan fried some with Fogdog shake n bake. This time i used some limes from our tree to "cook" the fresh snapper.

Managed to get out on King's Birthday for a kayak fish at my local - Orere Point (south of Auckland). Was the calmest and clearest I've seen the water there ever. Bit of a slow day, but managed to get about 7 snapper and a couple to take home. Issues with the bixpy.

Thank you so much and merry Christmas!
Just wonder where did you get those clips please?
Burnsco, Viking Kayaks and marine deals also have them. Called lashing hook
I love the idea of combining the two softies bro. Genius
Hi, Boss! How are you doing? Could you please upload a video showing how to attach the Bixpy battery to the top of the Chillpod? I got my Bixpy finally this Black Friday.
I explained it on the other video where you asked. Might pull it out this weekend (it's packed away). I want to do a new review of my setup.
Hi, Boss! How are you doing? Could you upload a video showing how to attach the Bixpy battery to the top of the Chillpod? I got my Bixpy finally this Black Friday.
I'll do it in a couple of weeks (all packed away). I just had a piece of foam i cut to the size of the groove in the base of the battery. I used some heavy duty double sided tape to fix that to the chill pod. I got 4 lashing hooks www.vikingkayaks.co.nz/shop/accessories/parts+%26+hardware/lashing+hook+%26+screws+1826 and screwed them in place to hook the bungee too. Originally i had the battery running sideways, but changed it so I could see the battery level indicator and more easily reach the magnet.
i'm visiting japan this month and i can't tell you how much i appreciate this long video with views of the price, blown my head how much im paying these exact lures in my local store thanks man
I'm happy it has helped you. Reels were what I found heaps cheaper than in New Zealand. They have about 130 stores?? across Japan
Ffs, the least you can do, is pronounce the Maori place names properly. Fuck your "Oreary"!!
Such a beautiful coastline :) Cant wait to get back up there again.
i'm already longing to fish the wash at Maitai bay
Thanks for the update mate. Whatuwhiwhi was tough for me last year. Great to see you got some fish. Was that your ringtone? 😂 I hope to catch up again and make it next year.
Hey It's me, your phone, i'm down here in your pocket ... get me outta here - yeah ringtone. Day 3 at Maitai Bay was the day. vid was going to be about 1hr 24 minutes, so split it.
have you ever caught no snapper fish when you go out?
yes - that's why it's called fishing, not catching. I've learnt to enjoy being on the water, so while it's disappointing, it's not a bad day.
Love the content bro! Keep it up !
nice calm beach and good fishing ground. I wonder if there is any Great White Shark there?
No great whites. Some hammerheads. I caught a small one - got it on video.
NewZealand is the Snapper nation. Kayak glide very well
for a big kayak they paddle quite well. Viking Reload - Made in New Zealand (about 100M from my office/warehouse)
Looks good , What Camera are you using
Insta360 X3. The X4 they recently released has better resolution (8K) and faster frame rates.
@@snappagrabba thanks
How long from did it take to paddle out
The mussel farm is quite large. It takes about 10 minutes??? to get from the shore tot he start of the farm, But would probably take 30 - 50 minutes to get to the other side.
Wow
pretty amazing place
Wow
Thanks that was really helpful. Just ordered some Adrenalin thermals myself, so see how they go
Don't think you will be disappointed
I’ve done an upgrade from sharkskin to adrenaline. So far, so good and much better on the budget.
They are well priced, I think i need slightly longer pants. Trouble is i've got a skinny waist and long legs. I nearly bought Shark skin, but Local Canoe and Kayak had Adrenalin so I went that way.
Great vid -
thanks, should have done it months ago. But slightly later start on Friday gave me light in the morning.
Nice info mate always thought about overalls didnt know desolve did them thought they only did waders. Do the overalls hold much water if you fall in?
I've only been in once, didn't notice extra resistance. I do tuck them in my dive boots to stop water splashing and running down the inside.
Don't wash them in the washing machine, laundry powder will strip the waterproofing.
Good catch in winter bro. I fished in Murray bay was good too
Was stoked to find it. Winter tends to bring the bigger ones in closer. Was in about 6M of water. Caught a couple at 53cm about 100M from shore. Thanks for watching
Hey That's really cool.
Thanks, Might do some more clips as I film in 360 a lot and usually just set the focus direction.
Cool video though being able to look around and see everything
add another dynamic
Your life jacket is not done up!! Wife is not happy!!
At least I took it with me that time - and didn't have to call a friend and drive to borrow one. I dd notice after an hour or so and did it up. Only fallen out once (and got that on video).
A couple of nice fish from a real nice place thanks for sharing m8t.
Glad you enjoyed
Cheers SG a good watch on a winters night here in Nelson.Looking forward to getting back there for the summer.Nice on the drop down info.Cheers Steve
thanks for the feedback
Hi what size treble hook u use?
I can't recall
Nice video, I'm a fan of your posts on Facebook. But, one question: are you allowed to have your light in strobe mode?
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have always use my light in flashing mode to conserve battery. I usually launch just on first light and mostly in areas where there is very little to no boat traffic. As I am out for 5-8hrs, the flashing setting saves me a lot of battery use and I think in 2 years i've changed the batteries once. It took a while to find, but it seems the rules say I'm wrong. Between sunset and sunrise a kayak must display a white light. It can be a 360º (fixed white light or a torch, but a flashing light or strobe is not acceptable (strobe lights are used to mark a man overboard). The white light should be bright enough to be seen 2 miles (about 4km) away. Colours other than white are not allowed. BUT I did see that strobe is 120 or more flashes a minute. I'm sure my light is about 60?? per minute, but i'll check it..
@@snappagrabba This confuses me as well, I see plenty of slow strobing white lights at night around the harbour / bay here in Nelson, so I'm not entirely sure myself. Would be good to get that 60 vs 120 clarification!
@@Romeowns It seems Strobe is a distress signal for man overboard (120 or more flashes per minute). So I assume slow flash is ok.
Would you recommend this camera? What are the pros and cons. Thanks.
I'll do a review after a few more times out with it. It's tempremental with connecting to my computer. It tends to rise up in the water a lot when trolling. It can tend to roll it's way through the water. It's been pretty murky a lot of times i've been out and that has prevented me getting more footage. - I've got some more footage on a couple of videos I did in MAY. BUT it's only $99USD
You're not worng about not reading Chinese mate the Japanese borrowed the Chinese writing language.
i have no clue with either one
Great video, the variety of fishing tackle in Japanese stores are to the point where you get lost. Bear in mind that even though Joshuya us a chain of stores they don't stock the same stuff. Each one sort of specialises in a certain field a bit more than another one. For example the Shibuya store you'll find more Daiwa Certates and Saltiga reels with more saltwater poppers than the Ikebukuro store.
That's handy to know, Might check out Shibuya next time. Toyocho was about 800M down the road from our hotel and I could go while my family was still asleep
Not many fish for Orere pt. Usually a great spot
Next time!
Couple of nice fish in the background there… cool to see
3hrs of footage and those are the only fish
NIce vid, very interesting to see what it is like around the left side of Orere pt to Kawakawa. Personally, Dawn breakers at the mussel farm just around the corner works for me everytime! Good pannies & the odd rat king & Trev to be found.
I've found it hit and miss soft baiting at the Mussel Farm - better with bait.
Beautiful spot bro, love that place. Cheers for vid.
Thanks for watching and commenting
That’s a good day out on the water thanks for vid cheers Steve
Definately had a lot worse days out there, thanks for taking the time to watch
Mean content bro, just liked and subscribed. Have a peek at some of our missions out in Auckland ! 😊
thanks for subscribing
what's the shop called?
Johshuya in Toyocho, Takyo. They have 140 store in Japan
Do they take credit card or do you need cash to shop? I would like to visit this shop when I go to Japan in a week. Thank you
yes credit card works there.
Thanks for the fast reply. Now you got me really excited. I am glad I don’t need to carry a wad of cash. I am planning on buying a couple electric fishing reels.
i was not looking for them, but don't remember any electric reels.
What is the tackle shop name
It's in the video. But Johshuya is a chain store with 140 stores across Japan. This one is in Toyocho in Tokyo.
thought it was a gurny
Still on my bucket list - never caught a gurnard.
@@snappagrabba my fav eating fish. most ppl catch them with something orange *funnly enough) a slider or a softy slow bounce along the bottom," hence why i thought u let for ages. gurny will not run really they just sorta accept their fate and like when u pulled it in that snapp didnt head shake. he make me 100% yell out . ITS A GURNY.. but no. was a snap haha good vids man
All the gears no ideas 😂
It was just one of those days - part 2 out soon
An Aussie Kayak fisherman based in Hiroshima prefecture for the next few years. We did have a 24 hr store here, but it's only open from 4am to Midnight now and is similar in range to the store you visited . Not much I can find going on Kayak fishing wise in Hiroshima region but there is a scene up towards Tokyo.
I'm an Aussie Kayak Fisherman in New Zealand. Good kayak fishing scene here, but tackle stores are nothing like that one. Most are a small section, maybe 20-50SqM in a marine store or a camping/fishing/camping store.
Hope you like my other videos
mmmmm dinner!! But how come you can multi task fishing but not at home?! Seems like a have to me 🤔
Did you see all my tangles? Gets worse in part 2
been there bro, not pleasant at all.
At least I caught it on camera, and the 360 let me get good angles.
Nice fish I always take a thermos with hot water to help warm up if you flip Y didn't the killswitch work on yr bixpy
i didn't have it connected to me :>(. (bixpy kill switch). Had hold of kayak at all times Grabbed a coffee from the shop (not that nice), but pie was good.
That was a very interesting video. Loads of kit we don't see here in UK. Now following you!
I thought the same thing compared to New Zealand - thanks for the subscription.
well this is just brilliant mate, keep it up!
thanks. last trip was very murky water
How about adding the NAME of THE TACKLE SHOP in the title or EVEN in your video introduction OR in your written introduction????????????? All I see from you is "..a tackle shop". Golly, you really suck at explanations don't you?!!!
Nice vid, love all this tech with the underwater camera… keep them coming
Tech can also be a pain in the @rse. Went out last Sunday, caught 25 snapper. Got home and found my 360 camera was set to single side record (the side pointing away from me). About 3hrs of useless footage.
@@snappagrabba must take a fair bit of time to edit as well I expect.
