    I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

      I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

    My husband and I are in our 40s. We moved from a big city in Texas to the Wilmington area. Cost of living isn't vastly different in my opinon. We kind of leveled out and still pay around what we used to in our day to day/ month to month spending. The home prices are just as expensive here as they were in the big city we came from. Taxes and other living expenses aren't so different that we noticed saving a ton here now that we live here. One thing that was jarring to me is how much slower and relaxed life is here. That isn't a bad thing. We came from highspeeds on the road ways and fast paced work environments to a very chill slow day to day life. The surrounding areas actually slow down and go to bed by 8pm. It's weird to be out at 9pm and not beable to find much open by that time. We have to be sure to pick up dinner semi early before resturants close. I personally like that about living out here. You can go in your backyard and actually see stars. Businesses aren't open to blind out the night sky. On a negative though this area is a job desert. It's hard to find a good paying job that isn't remote. You'll be pulling in around the 60K range and MIGHT beable to pull in 70-80K with both you and your partner working. I see it more consistant in the 60 to 70k though. What's bad about that is it makes for local income being less than the incomes of people transplanting here. So you find that affordability is really for those who don't actually depend on a local job to be here.

    • @livejacksonvillenc
      @livejacksonvillenc 16 днів тому

      Amazing comment! Thank you so much for your feedback and I’m glad that you love it here. It definitely is a change from other areas of the US but in a lot of ways, a good change. Costs are certainly comparable to a lot of areas and it sounds like it’s comparable to where your from in Texas - but I know a lot of my clients (including myself) moving from northern states that are saving a lot of money. Eitherway, we love living here! Thanks so much for your comment and support and please let me know if I can ever help with anything 🙏🏻

    Surf City is fabulous so fab that we purchased a home there with a great ocean view and a 2 minute walk to the beach. The best view is at the top of the bridge , when you get there its like pretty color houses with the ocean in the background. Home ownership on an island can be expensive, maintaining can get costly, all the insurance costs especially flood insurance is costly. Yet any expense is worth it. Most of our neighbors either live there full time or do not rent their homes out, so that is also really nice, we all watch out for each other and and each others homes. East Coast sports you said was a big box, lol, it is a large store but it is not a chain. It is a great place to live or visit .

      Amazing input thank you so much!! It's a very popular city that is growing fast because it has so much to offer. People don't come here to get a job, they come because of great food, great beaches, great neighborhoods and usually great weather.

    The influx of people that moved into Wilmington over the last 10+ years has pretty much ruined the chill college beach town I once knew. Want to find a parking spot at the beach? Better be there at 6 am. Want to not be stuck in traffic? Better not drive until 8pm. Want to get good service like I used to be able to? Forget it you’re just a number now unless you are dealing with a local. However I don’t let that bother me this is still my city and you are correct we don’t like the implants unless they are chill like us. It’s just crazy how some people move here and think they own the city now. Crazy drivers hurrying to get no where causing accidents every day! Body shops backed up for months what does that tell you? Thinking of moving here and finding a job? Better think twice. Bottom line don’t move here we are full for real and all the tourists need to stay away too 😂

The biggest negative now is the over development; there are dozens of new apartment complexes, new houses squeezed into every possible lot and so forth. There must be eight bejillion new car washes and storage facilities marring the view on the main roads. Still a great place despite all that.

      Yes there definitely is a ton of development and a lot of neighborhoods are being squeezed it. Pretty soon wilmington is going to have to start “building up”. Lots of car washes and storage for the influx of people! Haha I still love it here. Thank you for your comment 🙏🏻

    Highway 17 is getting a lot more crowded. You actually have bumper-to-bumper traffic at some of the day. Where as a year ago if I saw five cars on the highway at the same time, it was a lot.

    As a recent new resident things sort of balanced themselves out. If you’re moving from a northern State You will like the fact that your real estate taxes like mine went from 12,000 to 5000. My auto insurance went from 6000 to 1900.Eating out is way way so much affordable that you will find yourself eating out a lot more. sales tax on a brand new car is only in the 3% range. Unlike 7 to 8 in the northern states. I gained 17 pounds in my first year moving down here you are absolutely correct. Food and drinks are so much cheaper. It’s not even worth cooking at home.

    I was born at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, NC and have lived there for all of my life. I love and hate it, Im currently in Laramie, WY for college, but i would love to return, both of my parents were in the USMC and decided to stay after they were stationed st Camp Lejeune.

    Don't get upset. Just a suggestion since so many high end prospects are from out of state.. One other thing, Sir, I have dealt with 100's of Real Estate agents from here to NY, tothe midwest to Califronia and beyond and most, close to all dress up...Talking about sport coats, nice slacks. Not like someone just coming from a workout, etc..Dress to your prospect's values, may it be NY, CA, or local..... One other thing, Sir. Last year we called a local agent who believed he was a legend in his own mind about selling our home. He asked what we thought we would get..Told him (over one million dollars) and said we would never, never get it...He did not even want to see our property which was decorated by a real Pro! Well one week later we sold the home for over 1.1 million dollars and in just one day on the market. The point, Sir. Never assume anything in your profession. Dressing appropriately especially for a specific market/prospect may be something you should consider. Just an idea from someone who was in business sector for over 65 years. By the way, I am originally from New State....

      Oh, I’m not upset at all! 10000%. There are a ton of realtors that talk the talk. They can’t deliver and they know it. I think if you ever met me (which I would love to do sometime) you would see my professionalism. I’m laid back, I don’t wear suits and ties anymore BUT I am darn good at what I do and my track record says so - but most importantly, my clients get what they’re looking for. At the end of the day, if a suit coat is what someone is looking for, I’m not their guy. But if a true professional Real Estate Broker who gets the job done is what someone is looking for, I’m their guy. Either way, I appreciate your advice 🙏🏻

    Good review, Folks but you need to dress up and look more professional. Just a suggestion for better first impression(s)..

      I appreciate you watching but respectfully we’re going to keep wearing whatever we want to wear. You are the ONLY person that has ever mentioned this. I work with lots of people with budgets from $300k-$3M+… The atmosphere here in eastern NC is very laid back and a polo is my choice of attire. If you dress fancy around here you’ll stand out like a sore thumb. I appreciate your comment, but we’re going to keep doing what we’re doing.

    Don't lknow why this popped up on my youtube feed. Maybe because im a realtor too, but in southern Spain lol. Beautiful area where you live, and almost the same problems where I live. Not many jobs except for real estate and hospitality.

      Haha it’s a sign that you should move to North Carolina 😄 thank you for watching though and yes to your point, there seems to be many places with the same issues which is why I don’t think it necessarily deters anyone from moving here 🤷🏻‍♂️
