I saw inside of Roker Park when I was a boy I wanted to see a league game there but I didn’t but instead I saw one at Stadium of Light 1997 was a sad year for Sunderland saying bye to Roker Park and I also lost my Granda my dad took me and my sister in the car to the incomplete Stadium of Light and I said I wanna be there finally when I did I was happy proud and no matter what match am happy to be there
They played it at Roker Park as the teams came out. Wasn't just Everton. Think a few other teams played it as well. Everton just kept it and didn't move with the times.. Funnily enough. Sunderland fans used to sing YNWA as well. Along with many other teams. But only Liverpool and Celtic seemed to keep with it.
I lived in Hurworth Darlington in the late 60's but travelled to stay at a mates house in Shildon. On the Saturday we met the 'Shil Lads' and got on a chartered United bus to Roker Park. A couple of beers in an ancient pub and then to the match. I was a Londoner and supported Arsenal but as Sunderland was a Co. Durham team I took to watching them! Couldn't get interested in the Magpies for some reason --probably the colors they play in being similar to the Spuds? after the match it was back to the bus and the return trip to Shildon. Maybe a couple of beers then home? Don't really remember as none of us had much money in those days! Great times, good football and no trouble with any of the fans!
Truly sad what has become of Sunderland Football Club, mired in League 1. Sunderland are a massive football club, deserve better. Same with Sheffield Wednesday. And Ipswich Town. And Portsmouth. I say this as a Chelsea fan. Long live AFC Sunderland 👍⚽
I remember as a kid living in Southwick area of Sunderland in the 60s I could hear the roar when Sunderland scored ,it must have been Charlie hearly days
Same goes for a Derby Charlton, all big established first division clubs (prem if you want to be modern) at one time particularly Charlton competing for Europe at one time, money in the game has killed the competition because clubs now can’t compete unless they have bundles of cash, may get a fluke very very rarely when Leicester won the league but apart from that same old teams up and down nine times out of ten
Luton fan in peace here. I remember being in Roker Park for a cup match in the 70's and thinking the atmosphere was as good as our old place The Kenny. Seeing those stands fall was genuinely emotional. At long last we should be moving too and a lot of our fans will shed a tear or two when the old girl is demolished.
@Alex Macleod Unbelievable Alex! I attended Wembley with my son, who started supporting Luton the season we were relegated from the old 1st Division as it became Premier League. In all honesty the cash means more to us as it will secure our short term future and pay towards the new ground. Good luck for next season and hope you can follow us up. 🎩🪜🖖

Never seen the clock stand being pulled down, what a ground.I wish we had stayed, Roker Park miss it more and more the older i get.You never know what you've got until it's gone.
I was born about 100 yards from the old Roker Park, 3 Westburn Tce on the 4th August 1949. Imagine all those poor souls who had their ashes sprinkled at the old stadium only to have a housing development built on them.
Obrian and sons pulled roker park down as a family of Sunderland supporters they weren't going to let any other demolition company do it so what they did was went in with the lowest bid witch no one could match and that is the truth
Broke my heart watching the stands of Roker being torn down. The SOL is a great stadium and the atmosphere is toppah but, the roar at Roker was special. I miss the old place and I wish we could have refurbished and modernised Roker Park. That would have been better but, onwards and upwards hopefully at the SOL. God bless Roker Park and all SAFC supporters. Wherever we are, whatever happens one thing will never change, I will always love the lads in RedNwhite. Best fans in the world and Shit James Park will always be a black and grey and gloomy Shit hole. FUCK THE MAGS. SAFC TILL I DIE AND IN SPIRIT. HAWAY THE LADS. this gives me nostalgia so much.
They build that stadium and today the worst result in our history, shocking
I lived at Wreath Quay Road in a huge old house with gas lights. It was demolished in 1983 make way for football stadium
Roger Park was my first football home I loved going to home games
Old memories some good some bad
The stadium should have been called Wearmouth Park.
