You probably heard of a show called Severance since it's been getting some acclaim. The show's premise kinda touches on this topic. It's about a group of people who go through this procedure called "severance", which splits them into 2 personas, one that exists at work and one that lives outside of work. The work persona is basically a blank slate that knows nothing of the outside persona's life, personality and relationships. The outside persona knows nothing about what happens at work and is just chilling without having to endure the bad work life. The moral dilemma is that those people are essentially creating another version of themselves and subjecting them to a hellish life without their permission. I personally think that if someone told you that procreation is an unconsented or even oppressive act at its core, then there's not much you can do to argue against it. But I do think that in general, we do a lot of things to others without their permission or consent. Like for example gift giving, we don't ask for permission before gifting because we assume that our gift will only bring positive things to the other person. So i guess to extend this, giving birth is fine if you think that the positive/negative experience ratio of your child will be overwhelmingly positive and you bring them to life cus you wanna do smth nice for them. The unconsented act of bringing an individual to life (thus maybe even subjecting them to aforementioned suffering) is seen as a huge moral violation by many anti-natalists There's also feminist anti-natalists, who believe childbirth is a threat womens autonomy. In a nutshell it seems they believe the oppression of women throughout human history is a direct result of their reproductive role, making it unethical to continue reproducing.

This observation has sparked my interest in Eastern spirituality, particularly practices like mindfulness. By cultivating the ability to watch urges and aversions as they arise and pass, I’ve found it possible to gain insight into the very root of craving-and by extension, addiction.

Super nice, flows really well. I agree with most points especially the double standard that adults will have their own "bad habits", like watching the news constantly or even drinking after work but it feels like they get on us for our own because they think part of being a good adult is disciplining I guess. In society things like being a workaholic are almost glorified when that's probably more destructive that comforting bad habits in the long term. In the end, as humans, most of what we do are things that we "have" to do, so people who only do the things they want are considered freeloaders, lazy or wtvr, when actually isn't that a normal thing if it doesn't disturb others directly? Ultimately we all need to sorta be drunk on something to keep going. Nobody is born for a reason and if they were then that's unfair on them. And in that same vein, nobody needs a reason to exist and keep going, ultimately if whatever we like doing doesn't affect others then it shouldn't be others' business.
