Russ Knight "The Weird Beard" - KLIF 1190 Dallas - August 28, 1970
Переглядів 2,2 тис.5 років тому
Back in 1970, when AM radio was still fun, KLIF owner Gordon McLendon brought back to the airwaves, for one day only, many of the "On Air" personalities who had worked previously at KLIF in Dallas, during the 1960's. The promotion was known as "The KLIF Family Portrait Day". On this day the air was filled with the familiar voices of former KLIF disc jockeys. The promotion was a triumph. That ni...

Opening remarks from Stan Wilson, President, Texas State Network.... "This newscast has, for 30 years, been presented by Porter Randall. Today his voice is silent. He is dead at the age of 56. We, at the Texas State Network, feel it appropriate that there be one more Porter Randall broadcast. A tribute to Texas best known radio journalist. Listen, now, to excerpts from Porter Randall’s broadcas...

Being previously denied for posting, here is the missing close for "The Charlie and Harrigan Show" of August 28, 1970. It is proper that the show's writers be acknowledged. This morning's episode of "The Charlie and Harrigan Show" was written by Brice Armstrong and Rod Roddy. They were two more local boys that dabbled some in the entertainment business. This one, loved those two. Thanks Brice. ...

Wish the full songs were on the recording. I understand it was cut to save space on the tape. But would be more immersive. Maybe we could splice the full songs in on the digital versions.

I was born and raised in Ft. Worth. I'm 71 now. Listening to this brought back a lot of fond memories. As I was watching this video I told my son that Porter Randall was our Walter Kronkite. Nationally, no one could do a better job than Mr. Randall. This is many years late...Thank you, Mr. Porter Randall...RIP. My dad, Fred "Whitey" Hartman umpired baseball games...mostly Pony, high school, and College. Once, at a game he umped in Benbrook, Dave Naugle was there, in the area overhead the snackbar, where the announcer sat, overlooking home plate. This was probably mid to late 60's. RIP, as well, to Mr. Dave Naugle. I hope someone(s) reading this might remember my dad. I'd love to hear from you.

Dick Biondi auditioned a very young me at WKBW in Buffalo. I didn’t get the job. Dick said I read the copy “like a bat out of hell” (that was a good 10 years before Meat Loaf recorded his song of the same name). I speak much slower now. Dick passed recently at 90, he was one of the most iconic AM radio DJ’s of all time.

I was 10 1/2 years old in May '69, listening to WLS and WCFL in Chicago, that summer was really fun. The moon landing was coming in July, the music at this time was killer. Still a bit of psychedelia going on, Tommy James and the Shondells, Cowsills, etc., great choices and styles of music. I guess when you're a kid, you don't notice all the commercials! I guess our attention spans were a lot shorter so we didn't notice, as long as they played our favs. I still remember having my 45's, but, still got excited when they would play one on the radio, it was like cherry on top.

I was doing all nights in Tulsa. Program director told me I sucked and fired me, so I went to Dallas and was hired by KNUS 99, KLIF sister FM station. They piped KNUS in on Tulsa cable and those people had to listen to me from Dallas on their cable. Sometimes things just go my way.
