This is a transcription of excerpts from the opera "La Traviata" by Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901). Normally it's for orchestra and singers. This uses - the beginning of the 1st act (just before the famous "Libiamo, libiamo". - Then comes Violetta's aria "Ah, fors'è lui", - then "Parigi o cara" from the 3rd act - then it jumps again back to Act 1: "Sempre libera degg'io" (the caballetta of the "Ah, fors'è lui" aria) to provide an upbeat finale (contrary to the opera, which ends with death!) Of course it is much more impactful with voices, but this work would have been perfect for home musicians, at a time when there were no records or CDs, no radio and of course no youtube, to be able to recreate the magic of Verdi's melodies. At that time many people knew how to play music, and entertained themselves at home, instead of expecting to be entertained. Fantasy On La Traviata (Flute and Piano) is based on two popular arrangements by the famous Italian flautists Emanuele Krakamp and Giulio Briccialdi. Both were also composers and produced numerous compositions of their own as well as arrangements of famous works by their contemporaries. Yoel Gamzou has combined both arrangements to create the orchestral version of the Fantasy on La Traviata that is also published by Universal Edition. This publication is part of The Flute Collection, which brings together a range of selected pieces from the international concert life of famous flautists, curated by internationally acclaimed flautist Emmanuel Pahud. Playing this as a freshman in high school. The first half is pretty easy besides the intervals. Then the endings kinda messing with me but it’s not hard fingering wise. It’s just about speed and double tonguing. Lots of double tonguing.
