I like the album version a lot more. This one didnt do it for me but thought the lyrics were really cute. As for a ranking- next semester, album version of craving, backslide, overcompensate. As for single version- after overcompensate.

This one is up at the top, but the whole album is so good. I love both versions of this. For me, the imagery in this vid references their SAI album. They put so much work into it, but it wasn't well received by some ppl and mainstream. It was considered a miss. BUT, not for me, I love SAI. But can def relate to this song on two levels, lyrically and then this visual concept. So very, very poignant. Longing for a lost sound and a potential loss of support. But not from the Clique, Tyler! FPE ❤|-/💛

I always though the music video symbolizes how an artist will pour their heart out to something, putting in effort---only for the "men in suits" to already throw it away and make it completely forgotten, overlooking the fact that the art had meaning and not just some "piece of work" to use and treat like nothing.

I have theory and thoughts Interesting facts about Backslide and hidden meaning: At 1:38 in the official UA-cam video (or 1:28 on the track), a very robotic voice can be heard saying "NPI RAB Self Titled" as Tyler sings "what happened to what brushed under rug" (NPI can be heard right after "yesterday", RAB when Tyler sings "brushed under", Self Titled after the word "rug"). In this context, Tyler asks what happened to his first albums (NPI - No Phun Intended, RAB - Regional At Best and Self Titled). Backslide is also synonymous with Fall Away (in a religious sense) and both of these expressions are song titles (Backslide album Clancy, Fall Away album Self Titled). In religion, these words denote a departure from faith, but in both songs, Tyler sings, "I don't want to backslide (fall away)." Tyler, being a Christian, does not want to deviate from the faith and continues to struggle with evil in his head. By the way, both tracks of both Fall Away and Backslide begin with the words "I don't wanna". About Ned's Bread's buns (literal translation of "Ned's Bread"). Tyler has said that Ned represents creativity. In this video, he buys Ned's bread (buys creativity) to take Josh and make a burger (track), but he throws away some of the bread (creativity), gives away some of it, and gets the last bread wet and the burger doesn't work out (there is no track).

Ned’s Bread. Ned symbolizes his creativity. He mentally struggles with his creative process because it what keeps him going mentally but now it comes with a price because he uses his creativity to make money. “Bread” calls back to Chlorine where Ned came in 😊 he wants his creativity to come from a genuine place, not just to make money. But he also likes that he can make money with his creativity and that internal struggle with his demons about it. So many callbacks to old songs! And the end scene where the buns are ruined and he turns around to go back for more, and you see Josh cooking the meat…it symbolizes to me that Tyler brings the creativity to the duo and Josh brings the meat. They need each other to make that burger. And Josh will stand there ready to dive in with Tyler no matter his creative process or how many times he scraps it. This song can literally be interpreted so many ways which is why these guys are just TOP tier in my heart. ❤️ I love y’all’s reactions ❤❤❤

enjoyed hearing your thoughts. was very different to what i expected but i love it so much! In backslide tyler's asking someone to 'throw me a line' to give him something to hold to stop him going under the water. In holding on to you there's already a line being offered and tyler has decided to cling onto it so that with the line 'i should have loved you more' also reminds me of struggles with faith.
