Toxicity in schools in the UK is a major issue. No solidarity in education and bullying is largely unchecked. I taught for nearly thirty years and cannot believe I managed for that long. I would never advise anyone to go into teaching even though good teachers are needed. I could write a book about the issues in education and the mess it is in. I gave heart and soul working excessive hours for nearly three decades, navigating all the challenges of the job and helping students to achieve excellent exam results. I left for a variety of reasons but in the end I had had enough to the point where it was not worth continuing a thankless task any longer. I may be poorer than if I had carried on working but I do not regret leaving. The discussion here is very reflective and informative. It asks pertinent questions and answers them with an impressive degree of insight. I should imagine it will resonate with a lot of teachers regardless of how long they have worked in education.

I would spin the couch around so it’s facing out instead of inward to crate a better sense of space and openness. Can’t wait to see when you green trees arrive and start to make it a little more homely too. Lighting is always important too, maybe extend the lighting around the perimeter of the garden too.

I changed careers in my mid-30s from working in corporate to teaching in schools. It was sad to realise the cultures are equally toxic. And as explained in the video, even more catty and rude experiences in a female-dominated profession.

What I think is nasty about teaching these days is that there is a real blame culture. If kids misbehave or underperform, the teacher gets blamed instead of the kid. Entitled brats have always existed, but there are more of them now than ever. Toxic workplaces are nasty and exist in all sectors unfortunately.

I quit teaching after 8 years doing it in 4 countries in 3 continents. I've never felt such joy than when I walked home for the last time. I felt like I had the weight of a mountain off my shoulders. It was the UK that got me in the end, was so distressed by it all I made a full video series trying to warn everyone not to come to the UK to teach. I can't manage the kids and be the adult in the room so I am quitting teaching for good after this year. I'm too stressed and don't care any more

Can you do long term supply work and still complete your ECF e.g 1 term. I am thinking of goign straight way to supply work to help it benefit my other career which is my main focus

This is really validating for me because I've experienced "mean girl" style bullying from my son's teacher and another staff member who's her friend. It's pretty crazy-making because there's so much gaslighting and bad mouthing, and they just flat out have more power than me due to numbers. It's really is an insane hen house with minimal principal oversight. It's very weird to see this behavior from teachers and staff.

Bullying can happen at any workplace where there is more than one person!

i notice its ofton the hot teachers that get kicked out. like one teacher that was hot and EVERYBODY loved her and would even graffiti stuff on bathroom like "miss [REDACTED] is so effing sexy" but she quit becuase the non-hot teachers would bully her.

I'm working as a teacher and I'm seriously considering quitting. It has certainly taken a toll on me mentally and physically.

Do you think age has anything to do with it? When I did my social work training over 20 years ago, the starting age to do a social work degree was 24, which means you would be 28 by the time you go into the profession. I think when people are in their early 30’s, your lifestyle, capabilities, and life experiences are completely different from someone older so the stress of teaching a classroom full of children would be greater. I understand the environmental factors too like the bitchy behaviour but that depends on the individuals you encounter. A lot of these videos about quitting teaching are from people in their early or mid twenties so I was just curious about whether age is a factor.

To day is the start of down falls for schools it's not only the feral of kids behavior it's the subjects like allowing no history more in favour of politics, woke, trans lgtbq, doing away with the old norm lessons, but watching videos of teachers leaving like yourself, fron UK and USA, it's a pattern of stress, violence, health issues, one can relate to see schooling will get far worse, and to the point of closing down,.... Just be posative to recover, and move on for better you.
