  • @jamesward5721
    @jamesward5721 Рік тому

    TBH, I can do the same run using a glorified cigarette lighter - a 20 quid butane micro torch. Where the issues arise is on lap & vertical welds. There, you need crazy-fast heat that only bloomin oxy-gas delivers. Or do you know otherwise?

    • @HydrOwelder5
      @HydrOwelder5 Рік тому

      Well James, That sounds like a challenge. The flame is one of the hottest, Oxy/Hydrogen burns at 3080c / 5600f and unlike blooming gas the flame's heat is focused. So focused you can weld lead upsidedown. facebook.com/HydrOwelder/videos/964311014555625 and the flame has no harmful fumes. Thats Zero/Zilch.

    I do the same - where it falls apart is on lap welds - with this torch, you won't get any heat into the lower layer & the weld will either be crap or look like a dogs backside. Butt welds are a doddle with any semi-decent/total garbage small flame torch. Where it will struggle (I.e fail) is on vertical welds/lap welds as you will have to dwell too long leading to holes. If you say different & can show, then I bow to your superior skillz.

    The weld is strong if its one third to half again as thick as the lead you are welding. this is a lapped weld used for in situ work and lead with timber substrate. Its not ment to fully penetrate. No filler stick as using the outside edge of the over lap. Dont need gasses, not had a slash back since i started 40 years ago. Dont need mask or extractor, working outdoors (Not in a classroom) Continuous welding can be used for flat, inclined, and upright seams. First of two loads.

    can anyone tell me if this method of welding is ok? ive never seen someone do it like that before

  • @avanier1
    @avanier1 13 років тому

    This is how NOT to lead burn! It is a very poor weld being produced here. No safety glasses, molten lead often spits back. Lead fumes are very dangerous to the body,there should be extraction or a mask used. Turn it over! Ha Ha.

    @rydingw Its an Oxyturbo kit they do a 90. 110 and 300 set. either will do. there light and easy to use. will burn clean through code 8 or turned down can do a nice calm slow weld. oxygen will give about 15/20m of welding gas is map gas and lasts about 6/7 times longer. bottles, both under £20. Kit is £ 110/150. most roofing yards and welding suppliers. bottles come with the kit.hope this help. good luck.
