Dollhouse Tour: The Becker House, a boarding house in the 1930's
Переглядів 2,7 тис.5 місяців тому
The Becker House dollhouse was my Laurel School senior project. My Dad, Ray, and I built it in his basement workshop in 1973. The design was modeled from a Victorian house in New York. It sat vacant as I raised my family. It required restoration as the roof molded and my cats had explored it and chewed the corners. The roof was re-shingled; my friend, Diane helped mix the slate paint colors. My...

We stopped at several points of interest along this journey. - Day 2 we toured Vicksburg NMP, the site of the 47 day siege. Thank you Rick for your time, professionalism and incredible insig...

Following the Battle of Antietam, Abraham Lincoln came to Maryland to review the army, including the garrisons on the mountain. He began the ascent, but because of the steepness of the slope, turned around halfway up, concluding any man who could make the climb would pass his muster. "Now the dogs are barking..." Thank you, Tom Waits. My "dogs" were bleeding.

So many spectacular moments! That crazy base hit that was fair by a hair’s width, beautiful double play… Bibee has a feisty pitching style 🔥
Glad you enjoyed it Seal! How bout that catch by Kwan!
Wow! Good job. But why Vogt’s ejection like that was worst call this year
Nice video, GO GUARDS
Cool, I sent it to my brother, I hope he makes it in for the world's series! Go Guardians!!!!
I saw Grady Sizemore on here!! I really miss him
No one talks about the guardians, I thought they missed the playoffs because of how rarely I hear someone talk about them.
@@ELI_ATL it could be their year. Guards as good as anyone still standing in the postseason. Question 1. Will they hit the ball? Question 2. Can they work the opposing pitchers?

Awesome Mike!⚾️
Hi Mike, I don't know if you'll see this, but I revisited your video. I am comparing Jim's journal with "Liberator Men of Old Buc," edited by Andy Low. It is an exhaustive history of the 453rd Bomb Group and both are helping me write a historical novel of my father's experience, and Jim Chiancone plays a prominent role in my book as do the other members of the crew. Sadly, I did not do a sufficient job quizzing my father on his experience decades earlier when his memory was more clear; he passed a month short of his 90th birthday in 2011 . . . and his long and productive life always makes me think of the other guys in the crew and those lives cut so tragically short. I also met Sgt. John "Red" Melvin (who was their nose gunner) up in the Seattle/Tacoma area back in 2004 and gained valuable insight from him as well. If you have any additional information about Jim's WW II experience, I would be very grateful to include it in my book. If you do read this, please pass along my regards to Jim's family. Truly, the Greatest Generation. <3
Love this so much!
@@AllThingsExist Thank you; so happy you enjoyed it.
Just adorable!
What a feat - so much to memorize. His voice is strong and so varied, I hear a little Henry Fonda at times! Excellent job!!! You and Ruth hatched two performers!
Beautiful. I love your dolls 🥰💝
Brilliant! Bravo, Andrew!
I adore the special effects- the broom closet door opening magically, perfectly in sync with the music! Miss Crabtree looks so cozy, reclining in her easy-chair by the crackling fireplace. The camerawork and curated soundtrack are the cherries on top of this work of art!
We appreciated your detailed comment very much. In reality, Miss Crabtree's ankles were tied together to promote an appropriate seated position. Yes, D-dot excelled in musical score and camera angles.
Gorgeous house! I really enjoyed your video. I have a similar house but it's built into a cabinet. Most of my furniture is antique Strombecker. (We share a few of the same pieces)! My dolls are vintage Caco from the 1940s-1960s. A lot of my accessories are vintage pot metal Cracker Jack prizes. I framed postage stamps from the 1938 World's Fair as artwork. I made all the curtains, drapes and bedding myself. I hired out other artists to crochet miniature doilies for the backs of chairs and to scatter on dressers and such. I wish I could send you pics, I know you'd love it! Thanks for making my day with your exquisite house.
Your positive comments made all the work worthwhile. Yes, I would love to view your cabinet house; that is the display choice of the historic Dutch miniaturists. I had a lot of fun making the curtains and quilts. All my dolls have names. I plan to decorate for Christmas. Presently, I am trying to clear a bedroom for the house. Thanks & I hope you enjoy many happy hours with your dolls.
What a perfectly delightful house! I love how it is done, I love the vintage play furniture, this is the style I love most. Thank you SO much for sharing. I’m saving the video to watch again and again for inspiration and as I keep spotting pieces I want to add to my wishlist. 💖💖💖💖
Thank you for your kind comment. Building a dollhouse is a great hobby . The best advice I heard on line in a you tube video: don't worry about mistakes; they can always be fixed.
the elderly woman looks like a victorian lady
One thing I have found restoring my 100yr plus dollhouse, is that the house won't simply be contemporary, but made up of furniture etc going back maybe another 100yrs. I think the old lady from Victorian times would dress old style.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the positive response.

I'd like having lived in the 30s
Me too. A disappointment is not having been inside original Pennsylvania Station in NYC.
Incredibly life like and such a fascinating work of art! Your workmanship and attention to detail is to be commended as is your husband's filming ability. How neat that you and your Dad made this house so many years ago!
Thank you kindly for your comment; it is meaningful to receive your evaluation of my work as you are experts in the world of art.
Absolutely loved this film and watched it twice straight away.Loved the intro the music and most of all the house full of such lovely details and period dolls.Fantastic, just wished it had been a little longer in some rooms as loved taking in all the details.Best wishes from Yorkshire Dales England.
Thank you for your kind comment. It is wonderful to hear from a dollhouse enthusiast in England. I watched many Julie Warren videos to learn about dollhouse decoration. My husband, the cameraman appreciated your comments too.
I like this so much! Your story, your research, all comes together and has a very nostalgic ambiance for me, as I am born in 1939 and have been trying to create a 'dolls' house' in a large bookcase, representing 1937, the year my parents (and my husband's parents) married. i own a few of the items like those you have featured.
Thank you for the kind comment. I googled images for 1930's kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms and looked at fashions. The doll clothing was challenging to make; usually required at least six tries. Good luck; it is a fun & challenging hobby.
🎉adorable what scale is the house 🏠 please🎉
The house is 1:12 scale. My father helped me build the shell. Thanks for your comment.
I love this. You really made a work of art.
Thank you, LilyGazou
Great job! Love the way it starts outside next to other houses and then moves inside! Beautiful interior and pieces! I stepped back in time! A quality piece of ART! Thank you for putting this all together and sharing with others. A labor of 💕 LOVE.
Thanks, Diane. Your paint color mixing added so much to the authenticity of the slate roof.
Oh my gosh - it is so charming! Thank you for posting the lovely video - great job!!!! Loved all the dollies with their sweet faces - they wore all their best garments for the boarding house's unveiling. And that kitty - he or she really gets around! Especially loved the placement of on the bed - how typical of cats who only want to be cozy and comfy. The lighting really enhances the house - wonderful!! Fantastic work to create a beautiful home for many needy occupants who look quite settled and at home in this time of Depression. At least the kiddies have some beautiful toys and the company of darling kitty! So proud of you, Ruth - what a work of love and dedication to your family who all participated. Love it and you and Mike for bringing this project to fruition.
Thanks, Jill.
that was beautiful!!!! I felt like I was right there with you all. A good looking group I might add!!!
You have some impressive shot's in the video and the music was wonderful!
Thanks Diane
I am glad you guys got Lee's Retreat route map correct in the Video. I saw one in Farmville, VA that was full of errors and not based on the history of the time. I grew up on River Road, Rt. 36 in Southern Chesterfield County and one of the main retreat routes went directly past our family home. In fact, in 1965, reenactors on horseback and in wagons went past our house in April, to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the retreat from Petersburg. I was 5 years old but remember it well. Thanks for the video.
That is VERY cool! Thank you for watching. We’re three guys from Cleveland Ohio who enjoy visiting Civil War sites. Basically, my videos are not much more than a travelogue of our experiences. I’m glad it brought back memories for you. This trip was an attempt to pick up where we left off when we visited Richmond and Petersburg the year prior. We were fortunate to have seen Monument Ave before they removed most of the monuments. We visited Vicksburg, Chattanooga and Chickamauga in 2023. - That was long trip for us…a full week. Happy New Year!
You’re very welcome!
What is that music in the video?
8-5 Take 3. cue from The Flintstones, Hokey Wolf, etc.
cool
Lindos recuerdos de infancia
Wonderful blending of nature and music. I feel so relaxed!
Thanks Jill. The music is a cue from the 1961 Top Cat cartoon.
Top Cat! One of the many unsung cartoon figures in days of yore. Tom Terrific another. Deputy Dawg - they all had personalities.
The the statue o’ lizardy is mighty purdy
Yes, it am!
Very lovely!
Thank you! Cheers!
I miss the old days, when these cartoons from H-B ended with a Screen Gems logo (whether it's the Torch Lady 1958-1963, The dancing sticks, 1963-1965, or the "S From Hell", 1965-1966., and 1971-1974 for H-B cartoons like "Yogi's Gang", "The Pebbles & Bam Bam Show", "The Flintstone Comedy Hour", "Goober & The Ghost Chasers (which featured The Partridge Family), and "Jeannie." The last H-B /Columbia connection was "The Partridge Family 2200 A.D.", which closed with the Columbia Television Productions "CTP Pretzel" logos. A good collection of original sketches hot off the H-B drawing boards.
you actually remember those original ending of hanna barbera cartoons with the original screen gems logo intact?! dang bro! that's nice! :D how old are you btw since you remember that legendary stuff during original airings (or syndicated airings)
@@WindowsGG 56-57 years old. Many reruns still had the logos intact throughout the 60's and into the 1970's,if the tv stations chose to show the closing credits.
@@robertorick6383 WOW! DO YOU HAVE FOOTAGE OF IT?! :D
@@WindowsGG While I don't have any personal (film) excerpts of these old logos, I do have a few on old VHS tapes and DVD discs. They do show up on them sometimes, if not all of the time. It just depends if Sony hasn't tampered with the logos by unnecessary plastering jobs, or if Ted Turner/ Warner Brothers hasn't covered them up themselves after the Time/Warner buyout of H-B studios. Some old H-B /Screen Gems Clips as well as entire film canisters can still be located at E-Bay and other auction places for a considerable sum. One old "Flintstones" episode formerly owned by an independent TV station was once auctioned by E-Bay complete with an original 1960's Screen Gems film canister with the "S From Hell" emblem printed on the plastic container. I don't remember what episode it was, though. They did not mention it.

1:24- Dick "Bick" Bickenbach's model sheet.
0:36- Carlo Vinci, "Love Letters on the Rocks" (1961). WILMA: "And even though you don't deserve it, here's your birthday present." FRED: {reading inscription} "'To my darling...The only man I ever will love. From his Wilma'." (sobbing) Wilma........ Wilma, honey, I'm sorry!! I've been a jealous fool, a skunk, a nut!" WILMA: "Who's arguing with you, you big dope?"
“And eyes so black like frying pans”😄
1:29- Ken Muse animated the "TOP CAT" opening title.
Muse brought his Disney and MGM chops to Hanna-Barbera. He had quite the resume.
Wheres the music from?
The track's actual title is "8-5 Take 3" It was used in the first Hokey Wolf cartoon, 'Tricks and Treats' (1961) and also in The Flintstones second season.
It was also used at the end of the first season "FLINTSTONES" episode, "Arthur Quarry's Dance Class".
Thank you for a beautiful tribute. From the 6th Company South Carolina Confederate decendant by my 3x and 4x Georgia born grandfathers. They made it home to Georgia but there was little left. Starting over with a terrible food shortage was horrific for decades. 😢
Wonderful collection! This period for Hanna Barbera was so post-modern and magical. Hearing that music (and the music on your other Hanna Barbera video) reminded me of how mysterious those early HB cartoons were. They were almost completely silent with that odd, sometimes morose music that fascinated the heck out of me as a kid. What a great memory!
Glad you enjoyed it! I enjoyed H-B for the very same reasons you mentioned. The limited animation of was greatly enhanced by wonderful music cues from Capitol Hi-Q, EMI Photoplay, Sam Fox, and later, the great Hoyt Curtin.
