Just another video to keep you or your cat entertained. This was also a camera / lens / video settings test. No rats were harmed in the making of this video and were well compensated for their participation.

Amazing and beautiful
Great job covering one of my favorite songs!! ❤
Parent divorced when I was six. My 12-year old brother was allowed to decide he wanted to live with my dad, and I had to stay with my mom in Sylmar. My dad bought a brand new home in Simi valley. I remember the smell of fresh paint and marveled at the modern popcorn ceilings. It had two bathrooms and bathtubs were like swimming pools to me and all the homes on the block were new. We use to walk thru and play in the newly constructed storm drains and ride mini bikes in nearby fields. I remember my dad planting grass and trees. Glorious times indeed.
Such a bizarre coincidence! Before I clicked the "like" button, the number of likes was at "118", like the freeway to get to Simi Valley lol
Freaking paradise
My mom lives in Simi now, after years in Anaheim. It's nicer there for sure, but so boring. Simi just doesnt have any personality.
Definitely much nicer back in the 1960's and early 70's. Before the new freeway brought in all the people, housing and development that gobbled up all the open spaces. Downtown L.A. has personality but I wouldn't want to live there.
@@peteandelman7093 DTLA is an armpit. I live in Sunland and have considered moving elsewhere, I've looked around at Simi but I just can't get into the mostly newer, cookie cutter neighborhoods and the older neighborhoods are kinda cluttered with RVs and pick up trucks at this point. There's no real "cool" residential spot that has that vintage artsy vibe I like. It's all dullsville. The shopping centers are also dull and many are half empty, 80's relics that can't seem to keep all of their tenants.
You weren't here when they used huge searchlights to attract people for miles to a grand opening of a store, or a car dealership had a sale.
@@SomeOldLesbian I remember seeing the searchlights in the 1960's when I lived in the San Fernando Valley. Don't think I ever saw them in Simi Valley.
@@peteandelman7093 oh yeah, I remember being disappointed a lot of times when we got there. But at least we went out for a drive.
That sign that said, “Major Shopping Center.” Was that at Yosemite and LA Ave?
The sign was across Los Angeles Ave from where I live. Alscot Ave in the East end adjacent to Kuehner Drive. It's just all houses now. We used to ride our motorcycles there.
ZEST COAST: DANNNNNNNNNNNNNNG
Pete, who did this footage? I really enjoyed this! Brings back so many memories of childhood!
My dad and I shot with an old 8mm movie camera. I converted the 8mm to digital the "old school" way before the newer analog to digital devices were available for home use. Of course I did the edit and added some sound. Glad that you enjoyed it.
This one made me smile my former wife and I would take our daughter every week to our house being built at the corner of L.A. Ave. And Madera rd. 99-2000 good times. Thanks for the post.
I know that area well because I worked not to far up Madera from L.A. Ave. I also know how the developer pulled a fast one on the city and technically stayed within the building code. Never thought anything would ever be approved for that location.
@@peteandelman7093 Are you referring to the Park lane Bell court gated community?
@@Dane3804 I do not know the name, but it is on the Southeast corner across from the car wash.
@@peteandelman7093 OH OK I was at L.A. and Madera by the post office across from what was them the Elephant bar & restaurant. Park lane. Belcourt I was friends with the developer, Greg Griffin. R.I.P. there was some issues with developing that area due to water table elevation and the nearby earthquake fault but nothing stops progress.😉 ✌
The cinematography and picture resolution is almost at a professional level.
Thank you,,what a great video of old simi,, all that footage is priceless
Pass this house regularly and happy to say it still looks the same. Area is well kept and neighborhood is extremely friendly, although home prices are now above 800k (as of June 2, 2022).
how do you know where this house is located?
We lived in the Santa Susana development up until '64. There was so much optimism then with the space race, Kennedy, the Jetsons, Corriganville... I can still smell it. Fishing on Sinaloa Lake, A&W drive in, Long Horn Steer. Just looked at the old house on street view - exactly the same. Thanks.
Parents bought in the "Jade Hills" tract, Stow & Katherine November 64. Lived there till 1976 moved around a little then bought a house in 1994 on Centinella. Will probably never move
My name is Kimmie and Kimmiecat is my nickname
Hello Kimmiecat
@@peteandelman7093 Your Kimmie cat is so cute 🥰
@@peteandelman7093 my kitty screams just being inside the bathroom with the water running....let alone UNDER the running water!
@@kimmiecat4202 Not many cats would allow this. I tried a little water in the bathtub and Kimmie jumps right out. Now that the weather is warmer she can go in the shower again, Once a month is all.
I lived on Alscott! This was fun to see!
Thank you Laure :-)
I lived on alscott also
When I came here to usa in 1977, my sister was looking for a house in simi, 118 was not finish yet, only sta susana pass, cost of house is 30-35k. Corriganville was still there.
Was part two ever made? Thank you
Bob hope bought corriganville, hope town, 1968 ish.
Fun to stumble across. Pre-Freeway. Remember them blasting to make the 118... We moved there to Christine Ave in Feb 1962. Passed that house 1,000's of times. All 9 children graduated from SVHS. All spread out across the US. Wish I owned that simple 3 + 2 home now. Fond memories of playing in those fields and hills. Thanks for posting.
My siblings and I grew up on Royal Ave and also graduated from SVHS in the 80’s and 90’s. My maiden meme is Pratt as well.
People back then would be both amazed and aghast to know those houses sell for $600K+ today. (2021)
My Dad brought us out here in ‘66. Was raised , then I raised mine .My 1st Granddaughter was born here.
the huracan and the r8 tho i was down the street
You can see 6:11 today at the corner of LA Ave and Alscott: maps.app.goo.gl/FvSfEwz6eVMb4SjP8 Turning around and looking east you'll see the house at 16:45 and you can barely see the little tree freshly planted in the front yard... look at that tree today!
After the winds the other night I need to clean up all the pine needles from that big tree. The city was planting similar trees along the street in 1965 and my dad asked if they had any extras. That's the story of how the tree got there. The city removed the trees from the street when they got too big.
@@peteandelman7093 Thanks for sharing the whole story. I love Simi and these old films are great. Hope to see you around town!
Are you on a pit bike?
I'm riding a 2006 Honda CRF 100F.
Matthew Pauls on Tenor Sax!!
We moved into the Westdale Tract in 1964 to Shreve Avenue. I remember catching the school bus on the corner of Alscott and Los Angeles Avenue. Truly the Wonder Years. Moved away in 1979, but moved my family back in 1998.
I still live there. The one bus stop allowed everyone in the neighborhood to meet one another. Wish it was still like that.
I had the teriyaki chicken noodle with veggies at that stand around the 1:02 to 1:25 mark. Still trying to eat decently, haha.......and still quite good!
Great stuff Pete!
Nice! I was 6 years old in 1965 when we moved from Sylmar to Simi. The brand new house was very exciting!
I came to simi in 1977 but was originally from Sylmar as well. My folk lost their house in the 1971 Sylmar earthquake.
