Hello! I'm Nooberton.
I have been making content on UA-cam-at varying degrees of quality-for about 8 years but never made anime content as I wasn't into anime at that point in my life. Then quarantine happened. With lots of time on my hands I finally injected the drug of anime into my system, slowly transforming me into a weeb. If you want to watch the process of a Noob turn full-blown Otaku; this channel's for you!
My rough upload time is Fridays at 4PM (EST) bi-weekly. I'm not going to pressure my upload times-I don't want a rushed upload with sloppy editing.

The Mutsumi Mystery

And instead of being cliche and talking about horror anime, of course I'm going to talk about a Girls Band Anime (The clear next logical step obviously) and for this I talk about BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! and particular the one side character named Mutsumi. I dive into her ominous vibe, dissect her little interactions and really try and figure out what's the Mystery she is hiding and holding onto going into the next season with Ave Mujica.

This is an original anime directed by Li Haoling who also created one of the most popular and highly rated Chinese Anime, Link Click. I discuss the qualities of this show, it's similarities and differences and the disservice it is having this show be little known in the ani...

This is perfect timing, I've been thinking about Mutsumi non-stop for the past two weeks after my MyGo rewatch lol Appreicate you making this
Never heard of this but you have 2 MyGO videos and a tokai teio figure behind you so I'd trust you with my life. Will watch it blind Update: holy FUCK
You are the target audience lol. When I joke about how only 5 people are interested in the contents of my video, your one of those 5 people.
AVE MUJICA HALLOWEEN DISCOURSE I LOVE YOU Heavy MyGO analyzer here, agree with all your points. I think Mutsumi heard The News before Saki did. In the episode 2 video flashback, it's also noticeable that Mutsumi basically doesn't react to anything anyone says except Saki. She also seems to be inseparable from her guitar, especially noticeable in ep 13 when she's holding it constantly even when the other band members aren't. Also tangential fun fact, Mutsumi (and Umiri)'s guitars have gear logos on them in ep 9, and in episode 12's post-concert scene, the shadow of Mutsumi's skirt forms another 8-tooth gear. I swear I'm not delusional.
Oh man, you would have loved the uncut version of this. I had yapped for 25 minutes but decided to really slim it down just to keep it engaging for people who aren't already engrossed in the topic. I also love the mention of the guitar. it was something I had thought about more in the edit but the choice of instrument and style can give so much. Like the fact that she has a pink sparkly guitar actually I think reflects some of her inner character. Combined with the fact she was flowing with the pastel palettes song in episode 3 shows she does actually enjoy these cutsy things and I think reflects how she is quite kindhearted. I didn't know that about Mutsumi's and Umiri's guitars have the shared design on the neck, and Uika's does not. Definitely a nice design element to show the buddy-buddy vibe they have. While Ave Mujica going to possibly be very dark and have a lot of fighting, we hopefully have Umiri looking out for Mutsumi in all the chaos.
Compared to the other seasons of Bandori I think the writing in MyGO was so good. Especially the attention to detail and the conflict between the characters. My first watchthrough I blamed Mutsumi for breaking up Crychic but on my second watchthrough I realized she did nothing wrong. I feel like her motivations are still unclear and we'll learn more about them in the Ave Mujica anime.
I think the huge thing is the conflict, I always thought they were extremely weak up to that point. Hooking us with a band break up in the first 3 minutes is just a huge jump to show what a shift this would have narratively from all the other entries.
In the main show I feel like it's was a bigger emphasis on friendship and CGDCT. Season 1 was all about Poppin Party and a little bit of Roselia, and seasons 2 and 3 were about introducing the rest of the bands up to RAS and introducing maybe a little bit of conflict. It's been a while since I watched it all on release so I don't remember too much. But MyGO? MyGO came out swinging with so much conflict and deception and character growth. If you want another good music anime with excellent characters check out Girls Band Cry. I think the animation is better than Bandori tbh.
@@MaxPowerzs Oh I already watched Girls Band Cry, and hey it's really good. I would just say it's not hitting as hard as MyGO. I think the element that makes me appreciate MyGO over Girls Band Cry is It's not as black and white and MyGO really allows the characters to be flawed and stay flawed. I had really liked Nina's development and story was developing very well but in the final episode to really give us to much detail and try to hammer in Nina did the right thing. I would have been rooting for her even with the ambiguity of her past events, I think learning that she got bullied because she stood up for a bully is a bit in your face. Comparitively MyGO's characters are really allowed to exist with flaws, Soyo being extremely fake and then becoming her real self which is more harsh and realist is awesome, even Tomori is challenged for her extreme attachments to band mates, and even after that rude awakening from Taki she still persistent in keeping the band, she decided to exist with the flaw and the show doesn't try to make a point of saying it's a good or bad thing. This is not to knock Girls Band Cry, I also rate it quite highly and I think it's well deserving of the love it had (and I would agree that it does look nicer CGI wise, not because the models look better, just because the expressive cartoonish movements really give justifaction to it's art style) To give a recommendation, Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night is another girls band anime to come out in the same season as Girls Band Cry (Bad timing because I feel it got less attention) but it was another great series, it sometimes is a little sloppy story, but parts that hit, hit hard. Kiui Watase's character progression is so good, it's enough to sell the show. It's tacking of identity and social isolation was so damn good. I don't want to spoil it but it's really well done.
Yes! The we've been blessed this year with had a lot of good music anime with Jellyfish, GBC, and the finale of Euphonium
@@MaxPowerzs I need to complete Euphonium. I'm still behind, on episode 6 of the 3rd season I ended up behind on so many seasonals because I was finishing up college and while I had a chill semester of only 4 classes, my roommate was a menace, not touching grass, playing fortnite with people on discord all day. I needed to watch Eupho is a good enviorment. But now I have a degree and haven't completed it, so it's more a me "problem" currently. Think tomorrow I'll go fix the error within my ways.
mfw people call bad writing "a mystery" xdddd
Thank you for feeding my MyGO obsession until the Ave Mujica anime comes out. I only watched it a while back, but I wasn't able to stop thinking about it ever since. Mutsumi is definitely a good example of a character who doesn't do much on screen, but is still very impactful to the storyline.
Yeah MyGO is totally living rent free in my head.
it truly is a mystery, isnt it?
Poor Doofy out his element just here to be a homie and support my unrestrained yapping.
Will check it out. Always like your recommendations, thank you.
Thank you, My big hope is sharing media that love with others and making them experience great shows they might not have found otherwise. MyGO is one of my all time favorites and it's very overlooked. I think it really stands it's strongest if you have watched a handful of Girls Band Anime. It's an amazing switch up for the BanG Dream series looking at it's flaws and strengths and making I would say the best in it's niche. A great opening conflict that works as an engaging mystery as stated, one of the best depictions of a neurodivergent character I've seen, some extremely creative forms to tell the story (Particularly the full POV perspective episode 3), and just the best use of music to not just sell singles but to drive the story. I had become pretty obsessive about this series and praising it by the end of it airing and I want to make more videos to drive home just how good this series, but that's another video for another day.
Ill give it a go
The section on 12:52 sold me, holy shit that's some powerful story telling, almost regret getting spoiled though... Should've just went and watch it at the start haha

Never thought about that, but is very true that Zombieland doesn’t pull you in into idol hell. It’s more like it comes from under the earth to give you a bit of a taste of idol stuff without much compromise, and then silently goes back underground. And as much as I agree on pretty much of everything you said about Superstar (those backgrounds, and the overall color design is so damn perfect. Can’t praise it enough), I do think there is one little detail that doesn’t seem to be talked about when it comes to idol anime, and particularly about Love Live… The suspension of disbelief. Like, outside of Japan, our base understanding of "idols" is pretty much non existent, so, most idol anime, even the best ones have a particularly hard task appealing to those who aren’t at least to some degree "into that kind of stuff". You know, the cute girls doing cute things, the lowstake conflicts, cheese dialogue, utopian scenarios, hit of miss comedy, high pitched j-pop, CG dance sequences, and so on. (On that note, Zombieland is nice because it’s premise is so absurd to begin with, that it makes the audience open their minds so they are quite receptive when the plot then goes into anywhere else. I remember people saying that EP 3 dance was so terrible to express how unprepared they where for that performance, but we know that’s not the case) You know, I think I really started appreciating Love Live once I framed it in my mind as some kind of fantasy utopia that just happens to be devoid of any supernatural qualities or tangible magic, and is set in a world mostly identical to ours. before that, I just couldn’t shake off the feeling of "reality does not work like this". ("You don’t get highly produced songs, choreographies, costumes or scenarios with such a small and unexperienced team in that ammount of time" "Why there aren’t any dudes in this world?" "is it ok that these teenagers have pretty much zero supervision or guidance while doing all this semiprofesional performance thingy?" "WHY IS THE VAN FLYING? lol" and stuff like that, that we take for granted and don’t really pay attention to, because it’s not what we signed up for) But to people who are not prepared to accept that *idol anime world is **_not_** meant to be a faithful depiction of what means to be an idol in the real world, but more often than not, it’s meant to be an "idealization of idols" from begining to end,* any show, regardless of it’s good qualities, will fail in getting them invested enough to care about anything. And I don’t think there is any "gateway anime" to prepare yourself for that. You either get the rude awakening of having a full course of idol stuff until you learn to like it for one reason or another, or you don’t. (Granted, I haven’t watched that much of idol stuff, so I might be missing something that actually overcomes this obstacles. Maybe Shine Post? Damn, I really want a second season of that one) Because if you watch something so absurd as Zombieland Saga, you’ll get a good time, but won’t get the whole picture of the particular appeal of idols. On the other hand, if you watch something quite realistic like Wake Up Girls!, you’ll understand a lot of idols as human beings, but won’t see them as idols to begin with. And it you watch… I don’t know… Oshi no ko, you’ll see them as just another gear of this entertainment machine. Whatever. End of rant. Superstar has the best colour design ever. Bye.
@@majime-yamashita ah yes, Suspension of disbeilf. It's one of my favorite parts of media disscourse I like to get into. I feel you made a great point and it was an oversight to not mention. I just watch so much and I have a very high suspension of desbeilf and I really just accept common rules in the world. My favorite anime is Uma Musume and I would say you need a high bar to accept the who horse girls racing like horses, and also they're idols thing. A lot of stuff needs this skill but for certain series we are much more open. Because most people grow up with shonen adapt action series like naruto, bleach, one peice, demon slayer, jujutsu kaisen, etc. We are signifgantly more accepting. Compared to idol which it's extremely rare to grow up with or have that be your introduction; or as you said most people who are watching this video don't come from a culture that has a similar or familiary to idol culture that we have to suspend much more. I think there is a point that love live and even more for superstar are very good and catching up unaware audience members with the standard "utopian" world that is created within these Idols series. Really good point. And really nice comment to read, I'm on a small filmset and right now chilling out between shot setups so this was a nice thing to engage with. (Also YES, I soooo want a season 2 for Shinepost. Shinepost and Superstar fight in my mind as my second favorite. The dance choregraphy is go good, songs are very strong, solid drama)
I haven't been keeping up with Love Live in a minute (I think it was around before Nijigasaki season 2 that I stopped following it) and at that time the only 2 shows I've watched are SIP and Sunshine, so seeing this pop up in my feed was a bit of a surprise. I was also quite surprised at the fact that you chose Superstar but then I remembered that everything from Sunshine onward don't really connect with previous shows. I'm currently rewatching SIP season 1 (on episode 4 to be exact) and I gotta say you have a point on how characters only start to get development in the episode that they also join the group, it maybe feel rushed but I never personally have an issue with it honestly, since we do at least get bite-sized hints about why certain characters feel X and Y before the episode they join. That aside, this video kind of motivated me even further to get back into Love Live now (and maybe even other idol anime in general), so I thank you for that. Here's to many more idol hell victims 🍻
I couldn't care less if somebody agreed with my points, but I'm so happy that I helped with motivation in watching stuff. The biggest W I can ask for. A cheers to the indoctrination of people into the idol Cult 🍻
I gotta agree Superstar is the best gateway show for the idol genre even if I find it to be the weakest of the Love Lives (Niji and Superstar are very close tho), Sunshine is not only my favorite idol anime but my favorite anime of all time, but damn are you spitting when you praise Idoly Pride even it isnt my number one its still an amazing show (Hoshimi Production music is amazing but to say even Aqours dont got shit on em is just too far)
The weakest one! That hurts, it's my favorite, but would say if I had to pick another Love Live I would go with Sunshine I think the a big limiter as a gateway is that it keeps on bringing up the OG love live and if feels like it's insisting to watch it first which is not what you want a gateway to do, but otherwise I think it has a pretty well balance first and second season and I actually really liked the spin from the og where they fail in reviving the school but still they see the value in how far they have come and feel in love with the journey, it's surprisingly quite mature. OG love live I think has a strong s2 but a weak first season, and Niji I do enjoy a good bit but it's weird because the best part is Yuu and her realizing that her role is not front in center but behind the curtain. As a film major who didn't go to school to be a director like everyone else a story of finding a love of behind the curtain work connects well with me, but the direct Idol narrative is the weakest in the all the entries. Also I'm ride or die with Idoly Pride, I love it so much and I really like the music for the composers behind it, just the tracks backing the singing just feel very different and distinct from other idol shows. I had cut it from the final cut but I had said in the recording I own the collectors CDs and play them in my car and have subjected my passengers to it. And legit got some non-weebs vibing with LizNoir. I do apologize for the Aquors slander there, the first ed is my favorite ed song wise from any love live and is probably in my top 10 EDs. And thank you for watching the video!
@@NoobertonAnime Definitely agreed on Sunshine really insisting on watching the OG and I do believe you should as Sunshine is at it's best when you see it evolve from the OG but as you said you don't want a gateway to do that making Superstar still the best gateway. I'm ride or die for a majority of idol anime including the generally considered more mid ones like Idolmaster Cinderella Girls (2011 and U149 are definitely the strongest Idolmasters but still CG deserves more love) but Idoly Pride is certainly up there as my 3rd favorite idol anime ever behind Sunshine and barely behind Idolmaster 2011.
@@Poipletoitle331 I completely neglected Idolmaster from my video but there is some good stuff. I personally really think the CG ones are any good, i stomached through Millions Live and dropped Shiny Colors. Think I really dislike Millions just for how they try to play the main three and connect them to the OGs. They felt like the wish version to me. But man OG idolmaster is a ride, it really sits in second with Superstar for me. Cinderella Girls is solid but nothing special, and I feel U149 is an amazing s1 and I think it could make a season 2 if it happens a top idoly anime. Otherwise it feels like good character establishment without enough of a overall buildup and payoff. Besides Arisu's story, stand alone that was amazing. While OG idolmaster is so good to a degree as first idol anime it's such a different yet high bar for everything to live up to.
Honestly, i agree. In a way I am proof of that since I watched zombie land saga before but never bothered watching more idol anime until I gave Love Live superstar a try. Also I am so hyped for the new season....
Cool, at least I'm not crazy, there's proof it happened at least once. I had to check some of the data I had on Anilist, I had first started with a seasonal release since I was huge on seasonal back in 2021 with Idoly Pride, I then watched Zombieland, then through the love lives to be caught up when Superstar was airing. And yes I'm also very excited for the new season, I've been refreshing tabs hoping episode 2 comes up any moment now. I had started working on this back in August and was planning to release it earlier, but I had many technical issues which pushed the upload close to the start of season 3 which is probably for the better. Not only for performance, but honestly be fun to chat some season 3 stuff with fans.
Great video
Thank you!
I love the anime and the movie, very entertaining but i HATE fanservise. All of it, and not just in this show but in all anime. This was my first and probably last isekai because im satisfied with this. I like to think he and his sister are reincarnated and so id like to think he doesnt have any feelings for her because i would litteratury turn inside out if there is a single hint. I purposefully ignored how close they were in a lot of scenes because id legit gone mad if i took that into consideration. Great story, pedo animators :/
They're not reincarnations. Tet just made some changes for contrast with Sora and Shiro. They're actually opposites of Sora and Shiro.
@@LARVideos oh yeah, mc of anime would never be able to execute all the stunts mc from movie did. Movie was so goated
I just started watching it a couple of days ago and im really loving it, so i wanted to look up reactions but its barely anything 😩🥲
watched the whole thing. it was ass. maybe a culture thing or translation issue, but everything just felt so out of place and random. not much made sense. i don't even want to watch it a second time to try and understand it. it was just ASS
DUDE! for real. I stumbled upon it because of the cool name. Its so unique and pretty darn good. I watched Ep0 and thought I knew what kind of anime this was going to be. Then I spend the rest of the day wondering wtf I was watching and trying to fit it in a box. I think I settled on this anime really just being about how people struggle to understand the world around them and justify their actions and excuse themselves for doing what they want. Everyone is flawed. There is no hero in the show. Some people suck more than others but everyone is just trying to cope as their definition of normal keeps changing. Idk, I'm no critic or fancy wordman but the show definitly is special.
Seems like a fun watch
I hope it is!
The anime isn't canon anyway, i just accept the existence of the game history cuz is better than the anime, unfurtunate everyone who wanna see the history of Magia record will prefer to see the anime instead of the game history cuz the VN model that they use on the game to show the history make most of the people skip it : (
also how you gonna mention pa works without mentioning the legendary canaan?!
talk about a manga for once dammit
Keep dreaming bro, I'll never talk about manga, ever!
It’s a good anime. The characters are intriguing.
Yo man! How many anime’s have you seen??
I've watched a little over 500. I've generally slowed down as of the last two years. The majority of my watching happened when I was a depressed physics major.
you cannot trick me you horny fool
I know you are horny, be true to yourself, join me in the horny!
One of my favorites that’s air this season. Currently getting really good and depressing 😅
banger vid id love to see more like this. hard agree that 'in-universe' symbolism is almost always more impactful than external (something like religious symbolism).
Thank you for the compliment and feedback. The video actually performed better than what I expected so I might be able to pull off making videos that more deeply look into scripting/script writing and execution of scripted elements.
First! And on a movie we both like.
Don't worry, tune in next week where I talk about some random ass anime that nobody likes at all and I get up on a soapbox and try and tell people it's good. (Warning: I likely won't upload next week, I'm inconsistent as shit, with this video as well being a week late)
@@NoobertonAnime very on brand
It's too bad no one is giving it love because it's good. It's not your standard anime fair, but it's smart and irreverent and if you don't watch Ep 0 you'll have no idea what direction it's going in imo. I'm also going to beeatch about Crunchyroll getting rid of the comments section. Everyone could run their food holes about how good or bad an ep or entire anime was after watching...wtf??? I think it hurts word of mouth too in passing around diff series to other commenters. Anyway, I tell all my homies that DDD Destruction is great.
I just started it, I knew the animation was coming soon but I really did not kept updated because I assumed it was gonna be everywhere as soon it begins, it talks a lot about the power of streaming monopoly, it was a bad desicion, saddly is going straight to become a hidden gem
so... are there any differences between the movies and ONA (series)? Or the series is just a movie in pieces with an opening and ending added? I watch the series thinking there's more to it than in the movies. But if there are no differences, I'll stop watching the series and go watch the movies because I can't stand waiting a week for the next episode. ;p PS Ontan best girl. <3
Cuz no one even knows it's out, I was expecting it, saw the trailer say it comes out in march, waited until april and couldn't find any news on the internet, then there's a trailer about the second movie coming out? still no news anywhere on the internet. then one day I just saw one reaction channel make a video on it, and I was like what the fuck I literally saw zero promotion around this show anywhere
AOTY in my opinion
I've only found TWO including g your video talking about this show. It deserves to be highlighted and shown to more people😢
The way it did blow up in japan, esp given big celebrities like Ano and Lilas Ikuta as the main va's. But, it surprises me how abroad no one talks about it at all.
It super interesting to see the differences in the reception does between it's at home, and overseas. Our list and logging sites like MAL or Anilist don't paint the picture to it's full popularity and I think overseas viewers get deceived (and also us Americans definitely got that main character syndrome lol.) Sometimes I understand completely cultural barriers that might alienate a foreign viewer, and while this definitely comments and points out national problems/crisis for Japan, a lot of these issues are actually shared in other developed countries. The perspective is interesting, and at points relatable. I see it being very powerful and narratively strong to people overseas yet it's sadly just not having the traction it had back at home.
@@NoobertonAnime Surprisingly, even in my country which is in asia, there's fans of the manga that have never heard of the anime. Its sorta sad seeing how I had to tell them it existed :,)
yeah,i think dumbies fading dddd cuz they think its SLICE 🤣 episode 8 went me in buzzing for 5 minutes straight after watching... its a peek of dramaturgy,so heartful and terrifying im not read manga, but i could imagine excitement of manga readers because of the level of adaptation
YAYY I LOVE ASTRA
@@astracracc6731 hell yeah, that shit was fucking awesome. By the half way mark I knew I was easily watching a rare 10/10 anime.
I saw it in the theater and it was amazing! I didn’t know anything about it and the only reason I saw it is because the name intrigued me. But wow, it was really really good.
Oh you had the rare chance to view it in theaters, that would definitely have been cool to see it that way. I'm guessing most people who are watching this video are watching it via it's streaming release.
@@NoobertonAnime I live in Japan so I didn’t even know it was in a show format as well. lol I might rewatch it in the show format to see what it’s like
I really like it, asano seemed to know where the world was heading even though he started writing this a little while ago
Episode 7 was 🤯.
i've been looking forward to this anime ever since it was announced as i love the manga, and despite the pretty poor marketing around it (which i think is at least a part of why it's not as popular as it should be), i think it's a great adaptation. it's really nice seeing the opinions of people who aren't as familiar with it, i love seeing people picking it up and enjoying it and talking about it because this series honestly means so much to me. (also. girls band cry mention‼️‼️👀)
K-ON is OG and PEAK anime Girl Band The rest are CLONES and yes this anime deserves more attenttion
I would implore you to watch "It's MyGO" it's lacking a bit visually (doesn't have a clear driven art style like Girls Band, and can couple of moments look weird) but in terms of it's script and the writing for the show it is one of the best. It has a great driving conflict and mystery to creates some amazing plot twist, has very creative shot choice and episode direction (especially episode 3), and is so good at handling mental health and mental disability. The lead, the vocalist is on the spectrum and it's one of the best depictions I've seen of an autistic character, not just in anime but in any fictional work. It my personal favorite in this sub genre and it's criminally under looked.
Crunchyroll is doing a terrible job at marketing it But as someone who is watching weekly this show is taking me on a wild ride lol. More ppl should be on this
A really wild ride indeed. Especially episodes 6, which of course I recorded this before that episode came out lol.
also the forward time skip in ep 0 confused/angered a lot of people. Sucks because it has top notch animation, writing and characters. Fills the void left by Heavenly Delusion (also criminally under-marketed) sigh
