Turned out great but wax isn't enough to provide actual lasting UV protection, needs a paint clear coat.

My rx-8 came with a Toyo catback. I kept it for two weeks before getting rid of it. It sounded great at idle and absolutely screamed at high revs, which is what you want from a rotary. But it also droned badly between 2500rpm and 3500rpm, which happens to be where the engine sits when driving through town or cruising at legal speed on the motorway. It sounded obnoxious in town and it made it impossible to hold a conversation with a passenger on the motorway. A catback that drones is one that's been badly tuned. There's a reason why Toyo only costs a fraction of what a Racing Beat, Miltek or Autoexe would cost.

It’s a standard cat just been gutted then toyo sport back box it’s level if just hanging then bolt it up to the midi pipe and then it’s sit in one side lol. Did melt my shrouds Iv got a diffuser to fit now

How did you get it to sit level if fitted toyo box if I hang it without bolted up the ends come out level and same amount out but when fitted to the cat then it’s pushed in a bit one side garage tried bending it but no good told me to weld extra pipe to one side so it looks the same lol had it melt my shrouds one side so had to get them fibre glass ones so it don’t melt

Hello this is COOL

the cat is defo where you need to be looking. just in case you're not aware - rotaries and particularly the rx8 need VERY thick cats in order to pass emissions. even with that they still go into the highest(?) emissions band. hence why it's the last ever rotary powered car. a rotary spits out oil as part of it's combustion. they are EXTREMELY hard on cats. the oem cat is pretty much the only one that will stand up for more than a year, and will likely last around ~50k miles. lot's of rx8's had the oem cats stolen back in the day because they contain so much valuable material inside. they are THICK. it's also why they cost >£1000 a pop for a new one. if your cat is non-oem then previous owner went for a cheap/smaller aftermarket one. that has 99% likely failed/been gutted. it's not running rich or having sensor issues - the cat is basically not doing enough/any filtering. prolly smells quite strong out the back as-well. you're not gunna ever pass an emissions test regardless of what you fix/replace - if there is not enough cat material between the engine and the emissions tester. many rx8 owners run catless midpipes and either swap in a cat for the MOT or find a dodgy garage. the rx8 runs much better without a cat holding up air flow, but can become very loud depending on the midpipe used. no idea what your budget is - but if you plan to own the car for a while - there's no real long-term cheap way of getting around the cat issue.

you sure it's not been de-catted? an oem cat replace will net you >£1000 cheaper cats won't last very long.
