#covercrops #organic #agriculture Why are preparing for our 2023 organic corn crop in the winter of 2022?! We are getting our red clover frost seeded into the fields that will be harvested as winter wheat this year. Freezing and thawing of the late winter/early spring will get the tiny red clover seeds just the right amount of soil contact! The red clover will not only act as a cover crop prote...

Early Season Organic Weed Control...Rotary Hoe!!!
Переглядів 3673 роки тому
Managing weeds in our organic system starts a few short days after planting! While the weeds are small and just starting to germinate, we run our rotary hoe over the fields to pluck out all the small weeds. We typically do this once on the corn ground and twice on the organic soybeans. Enjoy the video!!

Fixing Drainage Tile on the Farm
Переглядів 1,4 тис.3 роки тому
One job we do before planting is fix drain tile! This underground drain tile requires maintenance every year to ensure it works the way it should; tile helps the fields get rid of excess moisture after a big rain.

    Hi, I have need of some corn feild footage, for one of my videos. Could I use your footage by chance? I don’t make money, just a hobby channel. Thanks!

    So obviously the copper rods on the front are the hot leg, are the disc wheels on the sides the negative or neutral leg?

    Great video. What I'm wondering is, what are the grounded gauge wheels and copper rod in the back needed for? Can someone explain that?

    That is about a 300hp tractor. It takes about 200hp to run that generator!

    • @compwiz00
      @compwiz00 Місяць тому

      The generator load depends on the electrical load. It will not pull that much power unless you are in contact with a very large number of weeds at the same time.

    Fast forward through the music. Terrible choice in my opinion, I never understood country boys listening to rap. I've never enjoyed rap, can not stand it really, people do not realize the effect music has on the mind. You really have to be careful with what you listen to, what you watch, because it does shape the mind. If you do not consciously program your own mind then others will do it for you. Our society is designed to do just that.

    Awesome video! I love to see 2WD tractors out in the field working. Just not that common anymore.

      Thanks Dylan! I think people underestimate what a 2wd is capable of! Less moving parts, cheaper, and easy to maneuver. Yes probably do have a better chance of getting stuck, but that means you probably got to close to the wet hole anyways!

      How does the 7730 handle that 3660 Kinze 12 row planter with the split rows? It looks like you have a PTO to run the vac? And the hydraulics run the fan delivering the seed to the units?

    What width are those shovels? Where do you source replacements?

    • @yunkerfarms2872

      Thomas, I believe these are 18" purchased through Shoup. I'm considering going to 20" next year so when I do my 2nd pass I'm able to do a little better job. This year on 2nd pass I took off the cutaway discs and row shields in order to throw some more dirt and prevent getting clogged up.

    Great video. How did you adjust the rotary hoe and tractor speed when you thought you were too aggressive. Next year will be my first organic soybean crop and I’m tentative about the rotary hoe…don’t want to tear the crop out.

    • @dougyunker7509
      @dougyunker7509 2 роки тому

      Hey Thomas! The angle of the 3 point hitch controls the aggressiveness of the rotary hoe. Leaning the hoe back will make it more aggressive (more pressure on the downforce springs) while tilting it forward towards the tractor will make it less aggressive. I tend to plant pretty thick on organic soybeans (180,000 seeds/ac) so that way if I do pluck a few out there will still be a good stand left behind. Good Luck!

    I’m tickled pink to see other organic farmers in my neighborhood. I’d love to see a lot more. We’re not on the internet. My kids are still small and I don’t want them online at this point. They are good little farm hands though. We’re on our 22nd year, we have ground that runs neck and neck with conventional yields, and we have ground that takes us for a ride on the struggle bus that is newer to us and still being developed. We’ve gotten much better at transitioning and keeping revenues in line with conventional farming. But this is something I do for a better opportunity to make more money, so my or is always open to sharing ideas and letting people look around.

      That’s awesome Tom! We are just getting the hang of it and have a lot more to learn…just our 5th year with certified ground. And I’m with you there on the opportunity…organics has made it possible for me to transition to full time farming this year. Good luck with this years crop! 👍🏼

    Why not just spray corn. We sprayed once after planting and field is clean. Chemical not that expensive yet to make several passes cultivating

    • @micahmiller4122
      @micahmiller4122 2 роки тому

      We Americans eat a lot of crops grown in fields. Sprayed crops are known to cause cancer. (Also, when your rely on spray, you're not really "farming") It is best when we consumers have a choice of what we put in our mouths. Thank you organic farmers for a healthy diet for future generations 🙌

      This field is actually an organic field that we have certified. In order to have it USDA organic certified we cannot use any chemicals. But we do farm some conventional as well and those fields do have herbicides applied to them.

    Your shovel is a "sweep". If you're going to farm learn what you're talking about.

    I saw a fuse blew, did that cause the unit to be under powered? We also bought a 12r 30 zapper last summer but for some reason on the last field we did it seemed to barely kill the weeds like it was doing previously. I was hoping we just had a blown fuse but couldn't find any.....when it worked it worked great..

    • @yunkerfarms2872
      @yunkerfarms2872 2 роки тому

      The fuse that was blowing on me was something to do with the circuit for the speed sensor on the coulter out front. Once I repaired the wires I was good to go. Did you have all of the selections in the setup menu selected properly?>>>tractor HP and grass/broadleaf selection

    Can that tractor pick up that cultivator & do the job without the lift assist wheels?

    • @yunkerfarms2872
      @yunkerfarms2872 2 роки тому

      I think it would as long as it's still setup as a 12 row it would be ok, but when we put the extra units on to make it a 16 row I would need to have front duals at least. We've always had the lift assist wheels on it.
