The Waste2Func project was funded by BBI JU under the EC programme Horizon 2020 with the aim to demonstrate the production of biosurfactants and lactic acid from food waste from agriculture, the food industry, supermarkets and restaurants. After three and a half years of optimising and demonstrating its technology in the home -and personal care and bioplastics sector the project consortium organised a final event in a hybrid format on the 7th of November 2024.
The project implemented a holistic approach to demonstrate the project objectives. Several key actors were involved in this process; farmers, waste collectors, technology owners, a pilot facilty, end users and finally also sustainability, regulatory and market insight experts.
This is the full recording of the event containing (1) all presentations with key project results, (2) a round table discussion about the barriers, hurdles, opportunities and priorities concluded from the project but also for the growth of bioeconomy in general and (3) the reflections of several representatives of the EC (DG Agri, DG RTD, DG Grow), the CBE-JU project officer and BIC.
