Do you remember the St. Louis Park Roundback by any chance? I found out today it was made in 1989.
thats my birthday may 11
Any idea what minneapolis had at their airport before the 2001s?
I remember a Federal 2T22 on top of the main terminal and an SD-10 over by Cedar Ave on the airport side, close to the fence near the runway. Both were yellow. Richfield had a blue Allertor on Cedar & 66th, next to the liquor store. I'm sure that could be heard at most parts of the airport, if outdoors.
@@SCS912 I heard they had a thunderbolt on Concourse F and the 2t22 over by the northwest garages
Earrape
Is that good?
Nice video! When it got to the south metro a beautiful sunset had shown
The wind was the best part of the storm. The storm looked scarier than it actually was. There wasn't as much lightning as I thought there would be. We haven't had many big lightning storms over the last couple years. Very little cloud-to-ground lightning storms.
@@SCS912 exactly, it was calm and then a minute later pouring and windy
I went to Sonnesyn Elementary and it had one of these sirens on the roof. I never understood why it was put on a school roof. When I was a kid, I was terrified of it. Sometimes on the first Wednesday of the month we'd be outside for recess and you'd have to hide behind a wall it was so loud. Not to mention extremely disruptive to the classroom. Why would you want to expose the ears of children so close range to this thing? I don't get it
Some people have them in their yard. I have a friend who just moved from a house that had one in the yard. When mowing the lawn, he literally mowed around the siren pole. It used to startle him and his wife.
My cousin went to that school. She said the whole building would shake when it went off.
@@SCS912 that's ridiculous. Sure helps the value of your property! lol
@@SCS912 yeah it was awful
This failed during this months test a couple of weeks ago only the 2nd failure in 2 years because it blows a Circuit Breaker it is connected to and they have to replace the breaker each time it is blown not sure what causes it but it could be that it pulls too much power for the breaker to handle
I live approximately 1 mile (as the crow flies) from that siren. I was wondering why I couldn't hear it on the first Wednesday (6/1/22). I thought maybe it was drowned out by other sounds and the loudness of closer sirens. I usually hear it clearly though, so it makes sense that it actually didn't go off.
Nice video! Do you know any info on the Bloomington, MN Inactive Thunderbolt 1003? Like when it was from?
Is that the one mounted on the building just east of MOA?
@@SCS912 correct
@@southeast_minnesota_sirens04 I don't know why they haven't taken it down since they are no longer using it. I have watched it go off before - back in the early 2000s - and it sounded great. I am so tired of these new single-tone sirens that sound more like fire engine sirens than tornado sirens.
@@SCS912 epic! Do you recall what blower it has? I think a C-Series 4M, so that means it’s from early 80s-90s
@@southeast_minnesota_sirens04 I don't know the answer to that. There is at least one video of that siren going off on UA-cam. On the video I've seen you can hear the blower, especially during attack, but I don't know the model.
Nice video! I was there on the parking ramp.
It still sounds reasonably healthy. I hope they don't replace it anytime soon.
@@SCS912 they dont have plans to
@@1000BT Good. It could use a paint job but still sounds good. So many Allertors & Thunderbolts that have been removed around the twin cities. It is quite depressing.
is just me or do i see a tree that looks like siren head
Is siren head some kind of cartoon character? I've seen it when looking through videos, but never investigated.
@@SCS912 siren head is a creature that got created by trevpr henderson but many people think siren head is real but its not
Do you have an idea where their srns were?
There are four Whelen sirens near my home: A Vortex on 4th Ave S & E 25th St (Clinton Field Park), a Vortex on 1st Ave S & E 16th St, an OA2 on Portland Ave & E 10th St, and an OA2 on Chicago Ave & E 14th St. Then there's the Thunderbolt on top of the 21st Ave Ramp (21st Ave S & S 4th St, U of M West Bank).
@@SCS912 Also by any chance do yo7 know if apple valley had hurricanes?
@@minnesnowtasirens Apple Valley DID have at least one Hurricane in the 80s (and maybe part of the 90s). I used to see it when I happened to drive thru Apple Valley long ago. Incidentally, Minnetonka had 2 squared-horned Hurricanes up until the mid-1990s.
@@SCS912 ah. Was it the one by downtown?
@@minnesnowtasirens Throughout the 80s and 90s, Minneapolis had mostly Thunderbolts. Minneapolis also had at least 2 Allertors and 1 Federal SD-10, but no Hurricanes. The Minnetonka Hurricanes weren't very close to Minneapolis.
Did the U of M sound the DSA's or Modulators?
I didn't hear anything other than the thunderbolt. I actually went over to the west bank on the first Wednesday (5/4/22) and recorded the tbolt from the courtyard. I didn't hear anything but the tbolt. It still sounds pretty good (to me at least). I hope they don't get rid of it any time soon.
That Thunderbolt 1000T sounds eerie from a distance in Alert during a actual Warning also sounds like one of the Vortexes or OA-1s are timed to only activate for 3 Minutes while the rest of the system goes for 5 Minutes
Yes. I noticed the same thing during Severe Weather Awareness testing. Some of the Whelens shut down at 3 minutes during both tests. Regarding the Tbolt, I hope they don't take that one down any time soon. It still sounds pretty good. I went over there on the first Wednesday of this month (5/4/22) and it seemed to be working well.
@Maestro Dan Today (Monday) there may be some severe weather here. Yesterday we were in an enhanced risk area but got nothing. Today we're again in an enhanced risk area and there's a moderate risk area just to our west. I actually love severe weather. So this excites me. But I agree that people should stay sky aware.
The Market here in Minnesota does not favor these that well here in the state that is why there are very few here and there the more affordable 2001-130 is more common in the state
Awesome Video!
This replaced the allertor that's in my profile pic.
I know. We were so excited to record one of the White Bear Lake Allertors. We went to Manor Park first, only to be horrified by a 2001. Then Walser. We didn't have time to go anywhere else, so we took a whack at the 508. I like it's lower pitch at least.
