OMMP - How Good was the 90's HeroQuest board game ad!
I was hooked on Fighting Fantasy books and all of a sudden in 1991 an ad for HeroQuest appeared and sucked me right into a deep dark RPG and miniature related hole I haven't been able to ever climb out of again..

OMMP - Finally found some Fighting Fantasy!
Переглядів 12514 днів тому
Ehmergherd! Mission accomplished! (Kind of..) After searching high and low for at least one of these original FF game books and just about to give up the search, I managed to stumble over two for just a couple of bucks! Now to not let them go like I foolishly did last time!
OMMP - Did you survive Dracula's castle? (1986 game book)
Переглядів 42Місяць тому
Going down solo game book memory lane suddenly made me recall this one - Dracula's Castle by J H Brennan from 1986. In this video I'm looking at what I remember, J H's other work (including other game books I'm itching to try) and I'm keen to know if you ever played it, either as the hero Harker or the irritated bloodsucker himself? Check out more details about searching for this gamebook over ...

I really wasn't expecting everything to turn up so early but here we are! Time to unbox and setup my USB OTG cord and my mic stand, check out the difference in sound quality once the Snowball Ice Microphone is connected up and see if the 3D printed Snowball Ice Shock Mount is going to hold up it's end of the bargain. Having recently unearthed my Blue Ice Snowball Microphone, it got me wondering if I could get it to work in harmony with my Samsung S20 FE. It turns out not only can it (and easily) but I also stumbled over a pretty cool thing to 3D print for my snowball. Looks like it's about to become very useful once again! Let's face it, you're not really expecting quality or repeatability from a 99 cent bargain bin album are you? Well back in the day I gave a few a spin and while quite a few of them fell really short, there were three absolute bargains I still get a massive kick out of to this day! What's the best album you bought for cheap? Let me know below! (Edit: Lucas with the Lid Off is blocked in some cou...
OMMP - Can you help identify these three mystery video games?
Переглядів 352 місяці тому
I'm still on the reminiscing train from last week but now I'm trying to recall three old school games from my childhood that I'd like to blow the dust off and play once again. Obviously I'm terrible with names but I do remember a couple of clues - if you think you know what they might be (or want to hazard even the wildest guess) then please let me know below and hopefully we can all solve this...
OMMP - Where did the original Fighting Fantasy books go?
Переглядів 3662 місяці тому
They were such a massive part of my childhood back in the 80's and 90's but where have all the original Fighting Fantasy books gone? I haven't seen one in the wild for ages (note: The wild - op shops, 2nd hand bookstores, garage sales and the like.) In this vid I also reminisce about the Fighting Fantasy books I used to own (and wish I kept) as well as reveal the one game book I actually do hav...

Which is strange considering how many old books have been converted but I guess it's not so easy to flip between numbles on an ebook reader outside of a table of contents..

Heroquest was the coolest board game ever. Dungeons & Dragons without people screaming about imaginary elves and wizards. The players have simple characters on the board.

The Fighting Fantasy books were a huge part of establishing my love for the general Fantasy genre and getting into D&D and all that. Good times were had! Congratulations on that great find!

Thank you very much - these books also propelled me down the massive rabbit warren of RPGS leading to the eventual love of worlds like Shadowrun and Cyberpunk 2020 so it's great to revisit the start all over again :D

Me and my friends collected a lot of these books as kids. We picked them up for around 20p each from charity shops or car boot sales. They are now collectors items and I haven't found one for years.

Yeah thanks to Covid I haven't seen a car boot sale around the traps or anywhere near the same level of garage sales that we had pre spicy cough. I can only hope they return just for the randomness.

Deathtrap was my first at the age of 13 and ended up having around the first 20 (I had to do a quick google for list to recall I never had a couple of the late teen books) Great books with a variety of settings I also read the way if the tiger series a fantasy setting where you were a ninja. That world felt darker or maybe it was the artwork. That universe also appeared in the FF books as The Talisman of Death.

Just had a quick Google of way of the tiger - those covers look epic! Did they play as well as FF?

@@OneManManyPlans imo and trying to recall after almost 40 years 😁, it felt darker (the B&W internal artwork helped) and more thematic because it was all set in one universe unlike FF. There was carry overs from the previous books, eg skills learnt, like the lone wolf series (I only read one these). Sure you were a ninja but near the end of the series you ruled a city resulting in a political intrigue play, eg you'd pick your counsellors and some morally questionable characters would turn out useful as they had contacts that warned me of an assassination attempt. I enjoyed it enough to have read them multiple times and had all the books, and like you lament not holding onto such things to remind us of our long lost youth 😊

Deathtrap Dungeon was one of my favourites but I think the only book I actually owned as opposed to just getting from the library was City Of Thieves...and I had that Zagor board game! It was fun!

One day I'm going to find an op shop with not only the full range of FF books (all priced at a $1 each..) but also a pristine copy of that board game. And on the same day I'll win powerball and shout the neighbourhood Lambos. Still, a FF fan can dream..

The originals had a different coloured spine for each book, I think they went to green after book 7. Edit: On my shelves I have 1-31 34,35, 37,38, 41-46, 50 and 53. Also have in the same game line Clash of Princes, Fighting Fantasy, Riddling Reaver, Blacksand, Out of the Pit, Dungeoneer, and the Sorcery series (which was one of my favourites).

    • @OneManManyPlans
      @OneManManyPlans 2 місяці тому

I recall Forrest of Doom originally was a brown orange but did they redo them in green down the track or am I imagining that? Also had no idea about Riddling Reaver until today - 4 adventures in one?? Is it as fun as it looks? (Just looked up Clash of Princes and wow did that bring back some memories. I think my local library had one of the two books which made things a challenge :D)
