    Hi Douglas. This is Nelson. I'm a subscriber and have a question. I'm planning a trip there in Loretto. And will stay at the Puffer fish. My question is, I have an EV car and would like to know if there are EV Chargers in your area? Please let me know, thanks. Keep on vloging.

      Hi Nelson, unfortunately, I do not know of any electric car chargers anywhere in Baja. Now. There may be some chargers in the big cities like Ensenada, La Paz, Cabo. There are no electric chargers that I know of in Loreto or neighboring towns. Also the electrical infrastructure in Loreto is very limited. To charge an electric vehicle with any type of current, you would probably be limited to cutting the end off a cord and wiring it directly to the feed from the transformer. That is how they do it for welding here because most of the houses would not support a welder unless it's run directly off of the drop from the transformer. I have only seen one Tesla in Loreto since we've been here and it was actually towing a generator behind it so I guess they were planning on charging themselves using the generator. Now, if you're just looking to charge a golf cart with a 110 plug then that is probably doable. Hope this helps

    I had a guy stop by a few weeks ago asking if he could trim one of our palms. At first I said no because we were leaving the next day for a trip north but had the smarts to ask him how much. He said 300 pesos but he wouldn't take the palms away. I threw him 400 and everyone was happy.

    that was fun!! I have a little mini tiller, and I had to replace the little fuel filter and bulb system on that... much smaller and probably a lot simpler to fix but it gave me a little understanding of what you completed on this video. so, about the black widows... Everyone thinks they don't live in Oregon but before my husband retired, he worked in a manufacturing plant and when they would unpack palates of materials, they would almost always find them. for a while he had a collection of black widows because nobody believed it until they saw them... So yeah, even in Oregon! :) Great video!

      Luckily I have not lived anywhere where they even know what a snow load is for a long time. I like to visit the snow for short stints but I never want to have to live in it again. We hate the cold! It was the main reason we moved away from Oregon. Too cold and grey. I don't think I will put any grill on the outlet. There is a massive airflow through there when it is running and I don't want to restrict it.

    • @dooglassandesperanza
      @dooglassandesperanza 6 днів тому

      I think I'm going to make another video about Mexico prices because many people seem to have this misconception. I was just in the US in Portland and San Diego and I spot checked a large number of items that we use regularly. Mexico prices overall average 30%-40% less than those two locations for similar items. When you are comparing prices make sure you are comparing apples to apples. For example there are restaurants with a massive difference in pricing in both places. In Mexico I can get a dinner anywhere from $1.50-$150. In San Diego I can get the same for $3-$2000 (yes there are places that charge $2000 an entree in San Diego and probably more). In Vegas I went to a place that had an $8k entree. So just make sure you are comparing comparable items of comparable quality to make your assessment.

  • @RexPonder-y6b

    Boy what happened we just got back from there and has things gotten expensive. Gringos everywhere. Most things are more than the United States. Not for us anymore.

    • @dooglassandesperanza
      @dooglassandesperanza 8 днів тому

      Maybe you could say most things more than some areas of the US. I was just in Portland and San Diego and everything in those two places is more expensive than here. My wife and I went out to eat in Tigard, OR at a Mexican place very similar in quality to the Que Bar and for one appetizer and one entree and two mixed drinks each it was $127+tip. This was a restaurant in a strip mall! I think many people have an idea that Mexico does not experience inflation like the rest of the world and they expect the same prices as when they came 20 or 30 years ago. In our area prices trend about 30%-40% less than the same thing in the US.

    I think when your doing math your forgetting the conversion. If apples are 43 pesos a kg then you’d divide 43 divided by 19.71 (today’s rate) = 2.18 (divided by 2.2 to convert to price per pound) = .99c per pound. Based on your prices in video. The bananas are about .60c per pound

    • @dooglassandesperanza
      @dooglassandesperanza 8 днів тому

      That is the conversion I was trying to make. One thing to note is that the exchange rate was much lower when I made this video, but I definitely could have made mistakes with my math. Thanks!

      Loreto is a tourist town so there are bars and restaurants catering to tourists and expats like this one, and then there are establishments that cater to local Mexicans. For a bar reference I can use Captain Morgan and Coke since almost every bar serves it. There are local bars where I can get a very heavy pour Capt and Coke for 45 pesos or about $2.25 USD. The average price in town is around 100 pesos or $5 USD. I was just in San Diego and a Capt and Coke there cost me $10. Portland the cost was about $8 so Loreto is about 40%-50% cheaper. For food you can get birra tacos for 10-20 pesos or $.50-$1 USD. My favorite low cost meal is at El Grill on the Malecon. 89 peso good hamburger and 40 pesos for fries. That's about $4 USD + $2 USD for a Sonic grade 1/3 lb hamburger. The Sonic burger in Portland is $6.69 and the fries are $3.69 so that's $6 vs $10.38 or a 43% discount. A meal you would get a Que Bar for 300 pesos or $15 USD would easily cost $25 in San Diego. Overall I would say compared to the two places I have been in the past few months, Portland and San Diego, Loreto is about 40% less expensive for comparable food.

There is nothing else coming from the battery and the data sheet does not list a 12V output. The Moke doesn't use a dedicated 12V battery like most electric cars. It uses a 70V to 12V 500W DC to DC converter.

    Next weekend, I'm taking my electric golf cart in my truck from my house in AZ to my house in San Felipe. Gonna upgrade the suspension and get some desert rock worthy tires on it. Now, you've got me thinking a battery upgrade is in the future too. Man, the amount of things you know how to do and can figure out makes me think much less of myself. 😞

      Don't say that! With the internet anyone can learn how to do anything. And I've always said, if someone else can learn to do something there's no reason I can't learn to do the same thing! I might not have the skill that only comes with practice on many tasks, but most things you can either do good enough or practice yourself and build your skills. It also helps that I am super cheap and I will never pay anyone to do anything that I could do myself in the time frame required.

    Awesome, you are so smart. I am amazed how you can figure things out. Let us know down the line how many miles you get per charge. You deseve a drink!

      Thank you. It's looking like around 35 miles per charge, but we are still on the first charge. We only drive about 10 miles a week so that is three weeks of driving per charge.

      Haha! I figured out long ago that if I start doing everyone else's odd jobs then I will never have time to do my own! Plus if I'm doing it for myself it is fun. If I'm doing it for someone else then it is work.

    Wow... A retired engineer who is hands on. My Dad a hands on kind of guy, hated engineers. It seemed and engineer would design something (He was employed by a large drug manufacturer) and he would be sent somewhere around the world to get "it" working. Your skills never fail to impress me. P.S. My Dad would also problem solve in his sleep and upon waking would write it down on a note pad on a table beside the bed. P n D

      Actually I worked in hi tech as an engineer for 30 years and the vast majority of all the electrical and mechanical engineers that I worked with were all hands on DIY guys. When I worked at Xerox in Oregon a bunch of the guys I worked with were all avid woodworkers and we all had huge woodworking shops at home.

      I have had friends from all over the world and my friends outside of the westerns world would often ask "Why are Americans so worried about safety? If you make rules to protect stupid people from themselves then you end up with a nation full of stupid people. We just let the stupid people get rid of themselves."

    Just to add a bit of perspective to your medical info. In May, ‘24 I had a Dr. requested CT of pelvis/ Abdomen at Duke Raleigh, NC. Somehow the exam got assigned an incorrect billing code which generated a bill to me for the entire cost. Want to guess? Sit down first. It was $6,960.00 for the approximately 5-10 minute contrast scan. Billing code was corrected but they nearly had to treat me for a heart attack.

      One thing I love about Mexico medical is that almost all pricing is listed upfront. Most of the time there is a "menu board" at the front desk listing all of the services and their prices. In a another video we show Esperanza getting a very similar CT scan with contrast for 6300 pesos or about $325 USD. This price was listed on their website so you knew exactly what you were going to pay before you ever went.

    Douglass, I am sure someone has asked, but does anyone do PEX there? The newest stuff is so easy to work with. Talk about a time saver. Just curious. Still planning to visit.

    • @dooglassandesperanza
      @dooglassandesperanza 18 днів тому

      Yes people do use PEX here and both types A&B are available. PVC is still king here because of cost. WIth fittings a PEX installation might cost 5x more than PVC. You also need to invest in expensive tools for PEX. Labor is only a few dollars an hour so they can work all day for the cost of a couple of PEX fittings. Most plumbers just use a hacksaw blade as their only tool. They don't even have a hacksaw frame, they just use the blade alone. If they need to bend pipe they find some cardboard and light it on fire and use the flame to heat up the pipe. Most people just want the least expensive quote so almost all new installs are still PVC. Many don't even use CPVC for hot, they just use PVC on both.
