Modulator 6024B • Olympic Beach, Edmonds WA 10/17/2024
ua-cam.com/play/PL45DBa5UNltULGYOhuvSwbfKOaceLW8-T.html
Yearly test of Washington State’s AHAB (All Hazard Alert Broadcast) siren system. This Modulator 6024B is located at Olympic Beach in Edmonds, about 20 minutes north of Seattle. Once a year, these sirens sound a full 3 minute attack as part of the “Great Shakeout” earthquake & tsunami drill. These AHAB sirens are also tested on a monthly basis, with Westminster chimes & voice only.
Voice Message - “This is a test of the AHAB system. If you are in a low costal area, test your evacuation route. If this had been a real emergency, you should follow evacuation routes. Move to higher ground inland now, do not delay. Do not return until directed to do so. Tune into your local radio station for further instructions. This was only a test”

Any updates on this abomination?
sounds like a ATI panel.
I heard about this siren test yesterday. I was nervous about it at first, but I was brave.
Awesome video dude!
Randall Noguchi did a bunch of live voice tests with the modulators, but I’m yet to see one with a DSA. Have you ever seen any?
Those batteries were NOT happy.
Does it play the National Anthem?
Yes, every morning at 8 am the base speakers play the national anthem (I live nearby so I know)

Are those Madahcoms really running on a UV?
Most Cooper Waves/MadahCom sirens in Hawai’i have been upgraded with UltraVoice controls, with the exception of MCBH’s sirens & several older army Waves units.
@@oahusirens Interesting.
@@oahusirensYou can record thoses madahcoms in MCBH?
Are there any Federal Signal Modulator 8032Bs in Hawaii?
@@Camporito25 Nope, although they really ought to install 8032B’s instead of 6024B’s. O’ahu does have a single 6032B installed at Koa Ridge.
I was talking to my friends today, but they ran away from me. Why?
is this for better coverage?

Do the DOD/military-operated sirens still activate via Two-Way FSK + Cellular or do they only activate now via cellular?
It really depends on the base & military branch. JBPHH & NCTAMS is still on FSK, no Sat/Cell antennas on their Modulators & UV’d HPSA arrays. Red Hill/Shafter/Tripler seems to be on strictly Cell only as all their sirens have just a single cell antenna. Schofield/Wheeler/Helemano is also on Cellular, but their Mod’s also have a second antenna that’s similar size to the cell antenna. MCBH is a lost cause at this point, I’d be surprised if even half of their 13 HPSA’s are even still functional, plus they have no regular monthly testing schedule. The system of ATI’s at Bellows AFB is strictly radio, at least one of their ATI’s is functional according to the MP’s on post. So far I’ve seen no trace of Satellite activation on any military sirens. MCBH & a select few HPSA’s on Shafter, Wheeler & Schofield are the only HPSA’s that haven’t been UV’d and/or given upgraded Comms yet. Rumor has it that the Lualualei Annex on west side has a system as well, of what exactly I’m unsure of.
@@oahusirens Thanks for the detailed breakdown! I was really confused about what activation system each installation used when I started mapping them out in 2022. It sounds like there's quite a mix of activation methods in use on each installation and sounds kinda confusing. Do you think they will ever standardize each installation to just use satellite & cellular in the future? Also, I think Lualualei had a system of Fedelcode's as I remember seeing some shadows that resembled them on satellite view.
@@ParadiseSirens Standardizing their activation across all systems would be the best way to go. Unfortunately, each branch is going to do whatever is functional most cost effective for them. In my opinion, having all sirens use a common sat/cell system would reduce activation times & simply testing. As far as monthly testing goes, a majority of military sirens do sound @11:45 alongside HI-EMA’s system. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were multiple Fedelcodes back there, I’m sure bellows had more as well back in the day.
1:14 now DO VOICE

I been searching the video of the Tolt Macdonald Park’s Modulator 8032-B (with Blue Quadraflares) and finally i found it and this is what i need! Thank you for posting this video!
Never seen this variant of DSA before but it sure looks interesting. Great video though!
These DSA5’s are very uncommon. Most customers just opt for the DSA6. It shares the exact same housing as a DSA6, except the bottom horn location is blanked off with an aluminum plate.
@@oahusirensThere’s a white DSA 6x4 in Oahu but it’s mounted on Frank Fasi. Which replaced a thunderbolt. I’m guessing they did a DSA Instead of a 6024B cause there’s no space up there for a 6024B

Cool! Why are the Federal Signal Modulators in Hawaii Dual-Tone, and why are the Federal Signal Modulators in Washington State Single-Tone? Why are the Federal Signal Modulator sirens in Hawaii green, and why are the Federal Signal Modulators in Washington State white?
I think Modulators are a lot better!
Well the horn design on DSA’s is quite better at making UV tones louder than modulators
@@tornadof25Agreed. Having heard MANY Modulators & DSA’s in my lifetime, I can confirm that DSA’s slaughter Modulator’s in terms of distance & clarity. I grew up around Hawaii’s system with hundreds of MOD’s & DSA’s, the DSA’s always hit harder & the sound reaches further than the MOD’s due to their design.
Cool! Why are the Federal Signal Modulators in Hawaii Dual-Tone, and why are the Federal Signal Modulators in Washington State Single-Tone? Why are the Federal Signal Modulator sirens in Hawaii green, and why are the Federal Signal Modulators in Washington State white?
its just preference, HI-EMA prefers their custom ordered green to make the sirens blend in and dual tone for them to be more effective, while WAEMA, PCEMA, and SPU all have their different preferences, them all having similarities, PCEMA and SPU both have mods with quads, while WAEMA chose beacons for the AHAB system, SPU also custom ordered the TDWS mods in 700HZ to match the old analog Whelen system their replacing.
btw the 6048 at the Chief Leschi Schools in Waller WA is actually the only confirmed dual tone mod in washington state
The dual or single tone is just a preference and the hawaii mods are green as a cosmetic purpose to make the sirens blend in with the trees and the normal modulator color is actually off white not pure white but it’s the normal color for mods
There is at least one dual tone Modulator in the Pierce County system. The siren can be easily programmed as single or dual tone depending on the customer’s preference. Personally I like the dual tone signals much better, they get your attention much better than single tone signals. In Hawaii, we have both single & dual tone sirens. However in the last decade, almost all electronic sirens in Hawaii have been programmed for dual tone. Since the cold war, Civil Defense has mandated that all CD warning signals be Dual Tone, & this rule has pretty much stuck around to the present day in Hawaii. As far as color goes, it really comes down to the customers preference. Alot of sirens in Hawaii are yellow to indicate their use as civil defense sirens. In recent years, sirens have been painted green to make them more aesthetically pleasing.
@@oahusirensHow do you know know that there is a Dual-Tone Modulator in the Pierce County System? Where did you learn that?

I live in pierce county and every first monday of the month I hear this...But where I hear it, im far away from the speaker so it sounds muffled
For some reason, Pierce County doesn’t test their Modulators at full power. Even at less than 100 feet from the siren, hearing protection wasn’t needed.
Same at the solar charged 3012-B that was in carnation, that thing was loud but not enough for me to need to cover my ears at 94 feet away.
Oh I see
Great video! It used to have a male voice, but now it has a female voice. Why? Did they change the voice? If so, why did they change the voice?
Voice was changed due to the original pre-recorded voice’s poor output. The new female voice recording is much louder & clearer.
