ROOFTOP TENT ON A SMALL CAR
Переглядів 24 тис.6 років тому
Decided to fit a kings rooftop tent on top of my toyota starlet ep91 hatchback because and make it a small car camper, I think it's a good idea considering I love camping and most of the time it's easier not pitching it on the ground and having to deal with time consuming pack ups and cleaning of the tent. Hope this would inspire you to do it even you dont have a 4wd vehicle.

Hey mate, they say these small cars only take a 60kg load - but with roof racks that changes right?
Very nice set up, I love it and keep your video coming, great job!
Thank you for the video! Thinking of getting one for my 2012 Toyota Yaris! 😄
Hi.. I am thinking of buying this stove, but I have doubt about its durability. Are you still using it ? Would you recommend this stove?
Yes I'm still using it. I went on a hike with mates and I had the msr dragonfly, soto muka and this. the cheapest and not nasty I should say. performed quite well. I haven't used the spare parts that came with it.
Whre i can buy like this ?
it is called 4wd supacenter. the product is Kings tourer rooftop tent
Very cool my friend!!
Hi Ericson, from Argentina here. I have the same Fire Maple but I accidentally broke the knob to adjust temperature. And now the whole pump system doesnt work. Do you know where can I find a replacemente for it? Thanks a lot!!
Hi Sebastian, I believe you can't find parts for this stove. I was looking for it just to have spares in case the pump would go but it only comes as a kit.
Thanks a lot ! I'll receive (i hope^^) my T30 next week... Only really good ideas in a brief video, it's inspirate me for my futur mods ;) Congrats ;)
glad to inspire you.👍
Nice video, you showed the boil time, but what was the efficiency? How much ml of fuel did it take to boil the 500ml of water in 4 minutes?
good question! I haven't gone that far in terms of efficiency.
@@ericsonenopia no worry, I'm just curious if it is more economical/ weight efficient for longer trips comparing it to gas cans. Which i have grown to hate as you always end up with partially filled ones.

The Soto Mika has so many O-rings that are points of failure. The O-ring of the fuel bottle pressure indicator failed, leaking fuel, and there is no replacement o-ring for it. Some forum posts from years ago wrote about receiving a replacement pump from Soto. However, Soto hasn't replied to me. The MSR dragonfly has very fine simmering control and is fully field serviceable with far fewer failures.
Hey mate, quick question, the X-trail has a load rating of 100kg and the weight of the kings tent (95) plus the batwing plus the shower awning is probably over that limit, have you ever had a concern about this? ty!
this setup, including the camping gear fridge and 2 adults all is sitting on 2tones. so I took the tent off after 9 months. fuel economy played a big part in the decision. you're right about the roof having the rating of 100kg, but I had to test if it can be done. before the xtrail, I used to own a startlet with even better camping setup but it was too small.

@@ericsonenopia hey mate. i just buy a 70kg rooftent for my Nissan X-Trail. We only pretend use it for sleep at night. Do you say that might be dangerous?
Just bought x trail, what pop up tent do you use to bolt on to your tray on roof rack ?
I had 2 types of the adventure kings rooftop tent. I had the tourer and the grand tourer. both of which were clamp straight on to the Heavy duty prorack roofrack. no flat tray involved
Nice mate, was hoping to go straight onto roof rack, just bought heavy duty pro rack on sale other day also, Thanks bud
You reckon could get away with a kings Kwiky ?

So how did your rooftop tent finally work out? Was it too heavy fro the Starlet? I was because I have a Starlet and I'm thinking of doing the same thing...

I sold it before I got married. I needed a bigger car this time. unfortunately I had to strip it down back to its original. I had no problems with it. It was fun driving, had no issues apart from a bit more fuel consumption. watch the link.
Nissan Xtrail t30 good car,,,,, tank you
All cars have their know weakness. as long as you prevent that fault, you should be ok. I have this car for 4 years now without fault. I service the car every 3 months.
What year is the car And are the tyres normal I just got xtrail and want to go on the beach for a good time
at this time of the video, I still got the standard road tires. pressure dropped to 16psi. this car was 2004 built. it was fun at the same time a bit scary. tide was rising

Hello friend, greetings from Argentina, I wanted to know if I can use it with Denatured Ethanol 96° - Industrial Ethyl Alcohol?? Blessings.
Hi there. sorry about the late reply. it got me thinking of doing a video of what fuel it can take. I went to my local hardware store to buy some. I do use unleaded fuel and "shelite". on the other hand I use denatured alcohol to start my stove just to have that clean pre burn but never used it as a fuel.
@@ericsonenopia okay okay thanks for answering, do you do that with alcohol before using it with fuel or after using it with fuel?
@@maxibordon6199 I use the alcohol to pre heat the burner either unleaded or shelite. in a normal situation you use the actual fuel on the canister but unleaded will emit black smoke which will carbon the stove.
Awesome 👏👏👏

Can it charge battery and be in use at the same time or even run off an external battery source
unfortunately no. when charging the unit won't switch on.
Can you make a video about your setup😶
I will soon. I had to return the rooftoptent because it was leaking even with the 2nd unit they replaced. aside from the tent I still have the rest of the stuff on it.
ua-cam.com/video/3AsE_HgAYG8/v-deo.html
🐻 Bears are my biggest 😟 worry.
In cold weather ...how do you make a tent warmer. When they build mini igloos , a lower level is made to let the cold air escape.
in this case, the tent is not really good in cold climates. I rely on my sleeping gear.
I bought this tent and I worry that any amount of ventilation won't help during a sunny day or morning because the fly cannot be removed? Not too big deal if you're hiking and need something waterproof and lightweight - except for that draft?
I wonder if the vestibule can be harnessed in so that no water gets past the outer fly walls instead of leaving a big gap?
I'm not sure what you mean. but I have tried using my walking poles with the vestibule.
People were complaining about condensation if you touch the walls and ventilation, but it seems well ventilated to me.
I think it matters where you are. I have used it here in south Australia and I don't seem to have that problem. but it is well ventilated.
@@ericsonenopia Condensation when it rains or snows. It sounds like it's not too hot in the heat even with the fly? How about the cool nights? Did you get a lot of cold drafts, too?
@@ericsonenopia I am less confused now.
Very helpful. Thank you.
glad to know. I'll be doing a first look at the naturehike nebula soon.
I don't understand the draft part ? What can we do to improve that?
the draft is the wind coming in the tent. this tent has mesh walls down to the "tub" bottom of the tent. good for ventilation during hot days but not good during really cold weather.
@@ericsonenopia What does the tub have to do with the draft ? Shouldn't the fly keep out the draft if it's secured close to the walls of the tent? No good in cold or hot weather it sounds like? A removable fly that hits the ground away from the tent and covers for the mesh would have been smart.
@@Quran4mercy check out my other tent videos. the ninox 3600 and naturehike hiby3 has more coverage from the tub to understand what I'm talking about. ua-cam.com/video/MklhzZW0dE8/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/mkL53qnUdRQ/v-deo.html
@@ericsonenopia It sounds like the drafts are in really cold weather like winter? That's alright . I would love to find a two door tent with two windows where all openings have mesh and a cover with breathable fabric and a skylight . And a breathable fly with a skirt that's detachable and when attached is set a foot or more away from the tent. This could work as an all season tent? If it was light four pounds or so.This is what I need. With all things considered equal I wonder why some tents are warmer than others at night?
@@ericsonenopia okay.
The only reaso I diliked this video is because I could not hear a word you were saying.
all good Mike 👍 didn't have microphone those days
what i dont like is that the fuel line cannot be removed from the pump.
that was my 1st concern, but you can actually remove the fuel line. I don't know if it's good for the oring but I have only done it twice. I'll do a video doing that. good little unit for the price.
@@ericsonenopia ohh i didnt know. thank you for the information!
Does it introduce CO2 into the tent??????
I didn't have a meter that time unfortunately, but had no smell coming out of the pipe. the product actually advertised to solve the co2 concerns.
Thanks. I will be getting this stove for motorcycle camping
Had this for 4 years i reckon and every time I'll use it , works like a charm👌
I did you ever try the Shellie?
ua-cam.com/video/8K-5sKeyKi8/v-deo.html I did actually. please watch the video using that fuel. hope it helps
Hello is it good for three people?
yes it is. enough to cook for 3 persons. but after years of using it, I won't recommend it. if you are doing a multi day hike with not much water available, then this is not the what you need.
They only seem to offer the 2 or 4 person Hiby now.

Looks like a good fire pit. Real shame I can't hear the audio very well.
Had no microphone when I did it. sorry about that. will be tested tomorrow night.
Hi. How is it after 3-4 years? Can you use kerosener reliably?
I had it working last week actually. im looking at what to bring on my 4day hike next year. deciding between this of the msr dragonfly. Start the burner with alcohol for less soot.
@@ericsonenopia thanks ericson. so have you tried it with kerosene?
@@xcx39 yes I have with no luck. the fire is so unstable, it needs a lot of heating before it will work but does not work great. best to use is unleaded fuel or the Coleman white gas.
@@ericsonenopia thank you ericson! Still seem a nice multifuel for the price and weight. unleaded gasoline seems ubiquitous enough
Are you a pinoy pre?
100% pre!
Thanks for the Video, i was looking for some information about this stove. Some Questions, you may answer: Is the plastic pump reliable/robust enaugh for using in cold winter for a few weeks? It looks a bit plastic toy like. And is the stove stable enaugh to hold a 4-5 litre pot for snow melting? Beside this questions, the stove looks pretty nice :-) As i am looking for a Backup stove to take on a longer ski tour for 3 weeks in scandinavian winter next to the primus omnifuel. Best regards!!
thanks mate! I'm not sure with the plastic quality but it's robust enough to handle pressure. even my msr dragonfly has a plastic pump which is 3x the price. it can handle 4-5 L pot. I have used it on mt. APO in the the Philippines with the 360 degrees furno XL cookpot set that fed 8 hikers and 3 guides. the problem with this stove is that you have to transport the stove connected with the fuel canister all the time as it doesn't have a quick release connector with the pump and hose line. I did try to unscrew the hose from the pump. it works but im not sure if it's advisable. I have purchased a 1L fuel canister for that hike. I had the msr dragonfly, this fire maple and the soto muka on that hike. soto muka was the best out of the 3 stoves in my opinion. I had to declog the msr with soot a few times but it can simmer. the soto can't but it sure can boil water faster. hope this would help.
Great looking tent! Are they still available to buy?
very good tent John. I was looking for a 1P tent last sunday at the same store I purchased it. unfortunately I didn't find it there.
@@ericsonenopia thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, I cant find it anywhere online either, shame, I would love one.
@@johnlelliott1981 I know. hope you find what you need.
Hi Does this stove run on diesel or only gasoline?
just gasoline and white gas that Coleman makes.
