Another great movie, no sex, no swearing. Le silence de la mer. The silence of the sea. French film with english subtitles. The main character is dreamy!

Am I the only one that finds this movie creepy. A grown man obsessed/obsessing over a child. Pedophile vibes. Wanting to marry her. If this movie was remade in today's 2024 times. It would catch alot of negative effects.

What a great film. This came out 7 years before I was born. I watched a hell of a lot of " old " movies growing up but I never even saw this one before. I can't even remember hearing about it. Talk about character study. This guy runs away from his troubles at home then by the luck of coincidence & chance meeting, winds up solving 3 other peoples personal troubles after they're dead in a common plane accident. With a little white lie here & there he makes the world right for the survivors. I don't believe I've evr seen Shelly Winters so young before. She really was pretty. The earliest I can remember seeing her in anything was early 60's & by then she was heavier & mostly doing supporting roles in " B " movies. Bette Davis is excellent as always. Michael Rennie looked much the same as when he did " The day the Earth Stood Still." And Keenan Wynn I know mostly from westerns. It was good to see him in something a bit more urban. Like I said, a great film. Thanks for showing it.

They sure don't make them like they used to. All this reality TV has taken away from the art of acting, it's awful. I am blessed to have grown up with a depression mom who loved the classics like this and Wuthering Heights with Lawrence Oliver.

I saw this as a young girl with my grandmother born 1904. Loved it for all these years.

I am 60 years old now and this has been my favorite book since I was 12 I still have the original copy that I stole from the library at my junior school and I watch the movie they cast Jenny way too young and they didn't follow the book deeply disappointed however I needed to see it through to the end like a legacy

I love this movie. The old movies have what so many contemporary movies lack-character development. I love Joseph Cotten in anything. A favorite with him is “The Third Man”, also starring the great European actress Alida Valli, Orson Welles, and Trevor Howard, directed by the talented Carol Reed. This movie also has one of my favorite actresses, the legendary Lillian Gish as the nun. Now there was a talent! Her film career began in the early days of silents and continued for many decades. She was a genius of the screen and stage and an iconic actress. Now this was a woman who literally suffered for her art-read about the filming of the silent “Way Down East” and “The Wind”.

Having just a little knowledge about BDSM culture makes this movie all the more interesting.
