We lived on Stanford near W. Gray. Montrose was just a couple of blocks west of us. Our old house was torn down and replaced by a monstrosity that looks nothing like the character of the old neighborhood. Half the houses in the neighborhood seem to have met the same fate. Nobody wants to live in small little bungalows, I suppose, especially at the prices in that neighborhood!

I was in college 1969-1972, and moved to Houston after college. As we left sfasu every weekend, I was glad to have pals to visit Houston and back then Montrose was a hippie haven, epic fun memories….

I came to Houston in 1980 and fell in love with lower Westheimer and the Montrose area at that time. Although much has changed, Montrose still retains its’ eclectic charm! ❤❤❤

Dear one who posted this fantastic video, my son lives in Montrose, recently a lady drove by and told him Bill Haley lived across the street from him, and he had cook outs on my son's front lawn...I wonder if there are pics or video of such wonderful historical pictures of this musical genius playing outside there in Montrose? 😍❤️🙏

Man as a native Houstonian in my mid 40’s I’m almost sick by how much you bash the area. What you are doing for younger people is teaching them the same thing you are complaining about which is awful. Please don’t make a video based on what you don’t know. Life is scary sometimes but encourage the future generations instead of passing on what your negative experiences have been with the area. This is home to a lot of people who may not have had the chance for certain opportunities otherwise so tone it down my friend!

Took BCT there in 64, but was there in 67 for a short TDY. can't remember the exact month , but it was in the fall. After getting out of the army I was back there in 74 for a USAR annual training as a student DS. Then in the 80s for several NG overnighters.

Wow!!! I grew up in the village but this is the first time I’ve seen what Acoma looked like before I was born. My dad was 10yrs old at the time this was taken. I would have loved to see footage of a stroll through but I’m sure no recording was allowed. Thank you for sharing this and giving us the younger people the opportunity to see our home before we existed….love it!!!!
