Some people like fast cars. I like fast trains. I've been enjoying railfanning since the age of 5 and I'd post videos of trains like they were my own personal souvenirs when I travel. However, when I found out that there are railfans all over the world, I was all the more encouraged to post more videos of trains.
Railfanning: Garfield Heights, OH (NS Intermodal)
(feat. NS1800 DC to AC Traction Locomotive). It's been a while since I've caught a heritage unit. This was a nice video to end 2024 with. Thanks for watching, enjoy, and have a happy new year.

We did it, ma. We pulled off our New England trip and received some clam chowder and maple syrup along the way. What are some of your favorite road trips with loved ones, where you happened to get railfan footage along the way?

This was a classic railfan catch for a most spontaneous day. My first Uber passenger needed a ride to the Pittsburgh, PA suburbs, so I was definitely going to make the most out of the trip. What is a classic railfan catch that you've had on a spontaneous trip?
Railfanning: East Palestine, OH (NS Intermodal)

Hopefully, East Palestine has recovered. That wreck from 2023 happened just east of the town and, thankfully, not in the actual town. With that said, as long as I waited for a train, THIS one decided to come as soon as I went to get some gas real quick. Nevertheless, I'll take what footage I can. What railfan experience has caught you off guard?

This isn't a busy line at all, so I'm thankful that the stars lined up and I saw one coming with enough time to pull over, get my equipment ready, and film it. With that said, this and the Intermodal train in Toronto, ON, CAN, are some of the absolute shortest trains I've seen. What's the shortest train you've seen?
Railfanning: Bosconia, Ces, COL (Drummond Coal)
Переглядів 3573 місяці тому
This is the second time I've ever been to Bosconia in Colombia to railfan. The main reason why I chose this town is because it was one of the few places in which I found modern crossing gates. Therefore, to see them be turned off early, unlike when I went in 2021, is a bit disappointing but oh well. Nevertheless, I did all of what I set out to do on the trip. What "oh well" railfanning experienc...

Nice catch with the lion mane
Thanks for watching and that's the best nickname I've seen for that locomotive so far.
@@IsaiahVerseRailfanning haha yes I’ve heard most people refer to it as the lions mane
Awesome video! Is this a good place to railfan at?
Thank you kindly for watching, as well as responding. As far as good places to railfan nearby, I'd vote for going a little north to Marion, OH (532 W Center St, Marion, OH 43302) where there are 3 relatively busy railroads that cross in an H-pattern. In fact, this is one of the railroads that goes through there. On this day, at this crossing, I just happen to have seen the train out of the corner of my eye while driving and the timing as too good to pass up 🙂
@@IsaiahVerseRailfanning Went to Marion years ago. What spots closer to Columbus on the NS are good to railfan at?
@@davidcoleman958 in Columbus itself? I'd say 810 E Cooke Rd, Columbus, OH 43214 especially since the grade crossing has brand new crossing gate signals. There isn't much traffic on that particular part of the street and there'll probably be more railfans posted up there as well. Same NS line but it's the busiest one in Columbus.
@IsaiahVerseRailfanning excellent information thanks
@@davidcoleman958 you got it, fellow railfan. When you do get some footage there, please share it with me as well.
Nice video! How busy is NS in Columbus?
@@davidcoleman958 thanks for watching. The NS line through Columbus is decent (eh). The National Gateway project and Heartland Corridor project, when CSX and NS built intermodal stations in Ohio (N. Baltimore [CSX] and just south of Columbus [NS] to relieve some of the freight traffic from New York to/from Chicago and send some of that traffic to the Chesapeake Bay area, brought more freight trains along that NS route. It's definitely not on the level of the NS line through Toledo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh or the CSX line through Fostoria, Cleveland, Buffalo, etc. though. Once I saw those lines, the BNSF Transcon, the UP Overland Route, etc. the NS line here just doesn't look as....nice. The NS line here is like the prettiest girl in the small town one grew up in who pales in comparison once the person ventured out and saw more.
@IsaiahVerseRailfanning awesome analysis! Really good insight.
Epic catch of the NS 1800 the yellow mane, Isaiah! Woow they were moving. Thanks for sharing, brother 😎 and Happy New Year 🎊
Happy New Year to you as well @@hakeemsd70m . This is just the top of the iceberg as NS started painting all kinds of heritage locomotives....then CSX started doing it as well (I'm looking to catch the Chessie System heritage locomotive in particular). Fostoria has the busiest CSX line, so you may catch some while railfanning there. NS through Toledo, Sandusky, Cleveland has the busiest NS line so you may catch some while railfanning there as well.
@@IsaiahVerseRailfanningThank you. Yes, you're right man. They've got a ton, and there's so many NS units that I've yet to catch. I'd love to catch a UP heritage unit someday as well. You too? Cool. The Chessie unit is my personal favorite of the new CSX fleet too. I hope I can get up to Northwest Ohio sometime this year to catch some action. I definitely appreciate the recommended rail lines.
Great catch of a train meet at Bellevue, Isaiah! The right place at the right time. What's Bellevue like?
@@hakeemsd70m thanks for watching. That was one of two days that I've ever caught three train meets in the same day. As for Bellevue its a cute notch in the belt....but I only with there because it was on the way to/from Port Clinton - Sandusky area. If you really want a nice railfan spot in that area I'm definitely saying Fostoria is top tier. The main railroad in Bellevue (NS NPR) also goes through Fostoria and it's not even the busiest railroad there.
@IsaiahVerseRailfanning anytime brother, and thanks for the response. I understand you, just passing through. I've lived in Ohio for most of my life and still can't believe I haven't been up Northwest yet. But I'm going to take your word for it, I gotta check out Fostoria. Thanks for the tip.
@@hakeemsd70m oh, you absolutely HAVE to see it. Gary, Indiana is probably my favorite railfan spot overall so far, but Fostoria is probably 2nd. It's by far the best railfan spot in Ohio in my opinion. The city is the size of Worthington and it has 3 railroads going through it maps.app.goo.gl/jAGPaB6gxq1VniTPA
Excellent Video 🚂🚂🛤
@@nickthetrainman thanks for watching, as well as for the feedback.
Ive been there in 2020, i saw a fast NS zooming by in that crossing.
@@LocalCharlotteTrainSpotter I'm a lil jealous then because catching an NS was what I originally went there for. Oh well. That line also goes through Greensboro Atlanta and Tuscaloosa, so I'll film some there perhaps.
@@IsaiahVerseRailfanningDo you usually go there to go trainspotting? If so, what is the weekly schedule of you seeing most trains going there? I had the idea with my dad and myself.
@@LocalCharlotteTrainSpotter I actually live in Ohio, so I may only have 4 railfan videos in North Carolina total (Benson 2014 +/-, Greensboro 2017, this one, and the psgr. train around the corner along N. Tryon St. shortly afterwards). For what it's worth, I do at least have the Amtrak "NCByTrain" schedules along that line: www.ncbytrain.org/schedules/Pages/piedmont.aspx www.ncbytrain.org/schedules/Pages/carolinian.aspx
What an amazing trip that you and your lady had, brother. Man, clam chowder sounds so good right about now. Nice Amtrak capture, love that F40 leader. Great video 😎
@@hakeemsd70m thanks for watching. That lady is actually my mother/best friend. This was a lil road trip that we were both wanting to pull off sometime in life and we were fortunate enough to pull it off 🙏🏿
Nice from Washington here new sub
Much appreciated x 2 and, remembering Bob Costas mentioning the BNSF trains blowing their horns on a busy line near the stadium during the 2000 ALCS, I'm going to check out some of your videos as well.
Nice!
Thank you kindly for watching.

@@nickthetrainman thank you kindly for watching, fellow railfan 🙂
Wow big loco ❤

This looks like it was a fun crossing to visit!!
Thanks for watching@@lauraswink578 With 33 grade crossings within a 4 mile span, it's definitely a nice and unique sight to see.
Nice catch.
@@ElliottWolcott Thank you kindly. To finally catch a train here was poetic justice indeed.
@@IsaiahVerseRailfanning No problem and I agree with you on that one.
Awesome catch! This is such a cool location in downtown
@@RoyalKingOfTheRails Thanks for watching. I'm SOOOO surprised I didn't record footage here sooner, as nice of a location as this is. I'm just thankful that the proverbial stars lined up perfectly this day for me to be prepared and not even have to wait too long.
@@IsaiahVerseRailfanning You’re welcome, and yeah you definitely got lucky then if you weren’t there very long!
Which side is which?
Thanks for watching. As I'm looking directly at the intermodal going across the overpass, Ohio in to the left of the road and Indiana is to the right. For what it's worth though, as decent as this trip was, this isn't my best video at this location. I'd wholeheartedly say that it was this one: ua-cam.com/video/kvqZ8gqULzI/v-deo.htmlsi=xlpNftAWqs4Qe-Pt
This is a really picturesque crossing. We will have to go out there sometime!!
Thanks for watching. Yes, this is definitely a nice and peculiar place for railfanning. Plus, with Cleveland having two other lines that are even busier, you'll have plenty of options nearby as well.
CSXT I165.
Thanks for taking the time to check out the video, as well as the insight. If you live near these tracks then I'm admittedly jealous as a railfan
@@IsaiahVerseRailfanning you will see more content from the area on my birthday Saturday September 7

Thanks for taking the time to watch. I'll have to look up the bell as well. This is the first time seeing a comparison.
Wonderful captures. New sub for you here
Definitely thanks for watching@@transittown7891 . I was fortunate to be at a good place at a good time (and Google maps is good to me). It's amazing how there are railfans all over the world.

Gracias por mirar, querida. Esto fue cuando viajaba con mi madre por Chicago, Illinois y de hecho publiqué este video antes pero noté un error que es absolutamente necesario corregir.
Nice catch. How many states have you railfanned in? You’ve sure been to a lot
Much appreciated, fellow railfan. Hmmm. How many states? I think I've railfanned in 19+/- states and then Toronto, ON, CAN and a small town in Colombia, South America so far.
@@IsaiahVerseRailfanning nice 👍

Thanks for watching. Yeah, this adventure is definitely one for the archives.
Dowagiac . . . . . last stop before michishithole. Land of progressives, libtards and Governor Whitless. 💩💩💩
I'm sure people drive around the gate, "Why are these gates down? The train is on the bridge!"
ua-cam.com/video/7SCCVEg-e2k/v-deo.htmlsi=O_SwKGKZtBC4UZmQ a view from the other side may give a better perspective as to why the crossing gates are placed where they are, as well as what it looks like when the train is actually on the bridge.
The left of the road is Indiana and to the right is Ohio. The train was passing from East to West.
Nice video lol you funny video after last tanker pass lol nice signals two.
Much thanks for checking out a few of my videos. Yeah, this particular video was a necessary public service announcement and I still have to move more of my songs to my music page. The timing of the train to go along with the video was perfect though.
Nice video.
Much appreciated. It's nice to see so many railfans worldwide.
To bad KCS never be first sine CP own they tracks to Mexico
Stay tuned. I've come across some KCS-led trains before on both the CSX and NS lines. They're rare but possible.

Which side is OH & which is IN?
From this side, the right side is Ohio and the left side is Indiana. I returned years later and recorded a much better video (train meet) from the other side as well.
Cool to see no stacks on this train
Ohhhhhhhh. Do you not like the double stacks or do you just like the variety, so it won't get too redundant?
@@IsaiahVerseRailfanning the variety it’s rare to see a true piggyback train anymore! Glad you caught this one!

Hmph. Now that you mention it, you're right. Perfect scenery on a sunny birthday road trip.
Looks like a model railroad layout
Good point. It DEFINITELY has inspired my HO scale layout.
What's wrong with the lights?
They're functioning normally. With the latter gates coming down after the initial gates come down, one is able to cross that track in the background instead of getting caught under the bridge.
Nice video that’s my hometown, it’s too bad it’s a quiet zone now
Thanks for watching, as well as the feedback. Yeah, I saw this crossing a year or two beforehand and I knew I had to film a video there. Fortunately, I was able to be ready since I could hear the horn when it crossed Bailey Rd.

I can't wait to witness this! I just started delivering mail right by this intersection!
Thanks for taking the time to watch it and congratulations on your route. For what it's worth, as you may already know, this same street also crosses the NS Nickel Plate Road a little further south in Edgerton as well.
It's Metra here in Chicago. Marta is Atlanta.
Oops! Thanks for catching that grammatical error.
Weird Railroad Crossings
....all the more reason why I had to tag this spot for a railfan video someday 🙂. I'm guessing that the tracks were there first, before the neighborhood around it. I certainly do feel for the people being awakened by a horn at 3am. There needs to be a no-horn zone, like they have along the CSX line in Covington, KY.
Dude I love this catch! How fast was this BNSF train going? I seriously wasn’t expecting to see him shooting down the track that quickly as soon as your camera panned away from the railroad crossing haha. Nice catch with the rear-power rear-facing DPU!
Heh heh heh. Thanks for checking this one out as well. I'd guess that this train was going 55+/-. I wish I could've caught more trains along the Chicago Line, but time was of the essence. I'll perhaps go through there again (and Elkhart too).
