Turbo Velo Tuesday Night Crit Masters 8/22/23
great data overlay
Great video and thanks for sharing all your data.
Nice video... Did u get tired at the end? If yes, why are u spending so much time up front??
Yes, I didn’t have much left at the end. All part of the team plan to tire out the opposition and get the win, which we did.
Very impressive ride, Sam. That was a hard course!
Thanks Shaun, definitely one of the more interesting crit courses that I’ve done. That hurt!
What was that at 31:40??
Looks like someone nearly lost their front wheel, managed to stay upright but ended up shooting to the right and causing the squeeze to the curb.
Frustrating to watch. I got curbed out of turn 3 on bell lap. 😢. Great job Sam.
That sucks - looks like you were pretty well positioned at that point. Another two chances left…
Looks fun ❤ how do i start doing this probably takes a long time to get this good
Just start doing your local races in the novice category and build from there.
CAT 5 riders shouldn’t be allowed to race in open age groups…. 😂😂
Jajaja the woman is win
Nicely done! Good race. I thought they had stopped the Fair park races?
Thanks to Turbo Velo, we have a few more races at Fair Park this summer before the venue is gone forever.
Looked a bit like a high side. They came in over the cobbles on that bend and if he lost the front wheel he may have over corrected and come over the top into a crash on the other side of his bike. You see it in motor GP where a corner causes the suspension to bottom out and throw the rider in the opposite direction. Just a thought anyway.
i think your camera likes me every week :)
Haha. I guess we just end up following each other.
you beat me by one bike...hahah I was right behind you hahha
Great video view setup! I almost want to "steal" this hahha Super nice and I was out there also....we really need to meet and say Hi sometime
We do! Hopefully I can make it down there for one of the Thursday night races this year. BTW I use DaVinci Resolve for the video editing and the split screen setup is a custom Fusion effect that I created - happy to share that with you if you use Resolve.
I use FCP for now but I bet I can work something like that. The big expense now is overlays....I used Garmin Virb edit but it is now broken....so the replacement is $150 @@samfindlater
@@BrianFaure Good thing about Resolve is that the free version offers everything that I need. And yes, overlays are a bit of a pain so I often don't bother. When I do, I use DashWare to create separate data videos and then Resolve to put them in the black rectangles top left and bottom right (so not really overlaying on top of the video). Anyway, if you do decide to give Resolve a try let me know and I'll share what knowledge I have as well as the custom effect. My email is my full name (separated by a dot) at gmail.com
That course looks so fun! My teammate Patrick was there (dreadlocks, can't miss him) I want to try and make it next year
It was fun, although tricky with such a large and high quality field. Overall a great weekend of racing. I’d definitely recommend it if you can make it next year.
This is awesome! Thank you!
You’re welcome. Just trying the process again to see if I can get better image quality. The original is better than what UA-cam shows.
@@samfindlater It looks pretty good at 2160 4k.
Ryan Crissy straight off Track Nationals and already getting ready for cyclocross @4:15
yeah I noticed that too
Yeah. I was moving up the left side because an attack was going up the right, and Shawn moved left to the edge. I anticipated him moving left, which is why I backed off moving up, held my position, and got back on the road as quickly as possible.
@@ryancrissey Clearly well handled by a National Champion. Congrats Ryan
I have to watch your video first so I know what actually happened in the race.
Haha. As long as you’re satisfied with main pack action. I can’t offer any insight into breakaway activities, at least not this year.
@@samfindlater I was in a break for about 30 seconds in this race.
Unlucky that it wasn’t the one which stuck.
great video, great leadout. You are the master of telling the story through cuts.
Thanks! Just wish I could do the commentary like you. Maybe I’ll give it another try…
@@samfindlater yes, you should try. Practice makes perfect.
That was a pretty incredible action-packed race, I enjoyed your video cause I got to see what happened at the beginning and all the action at the front when I was on the back.
I didn’t actually realize that you’d missed the start until I watched your video last night. When we lapped you I just assumed that you’d been on the front and I’d missed you moving up. Shows hows easy it is to lose track of the situation during a race. Congrats on the series win for the team. I’m hoping that I can play a bigger part in the final series as my fitness slowly returns.
@@samfindlater never assume I have been off the front. The opposite conclusion will be correct 99.9% of the time. 😅
@@Wapiarieshaha, so you’re saying that you’re more likely to miss the start than being in a breakaway?
@@samfindlater correct!
Man that crash sucked to see
Ugh, that course looks so tight!
Yeah, tricky when it's a large group without the usual crosswind to break things up.
That BPM 😵💫
Hurts just watching it.
Nice effort. Looks like you need more time in Zone 2 to build a bigger engine.
Sam, you guys broke away from the pack and the last two laps you had heart. 4th is a victory from what I saw💪
Thanks Rodney. It was always going to be very difficult for me to make the podium against those three guys.
Was a crazy hard race!!
Sure was - these hill repeats just wear you down!
Sam, Nice work on your footage...
Just no desire to trust my brittle bones and dry skin to a stranger's lack of bike handling skills.
Did you make it to HHH this year?'22
I did for the RR, but without cameras (or much form either, so it was a struggle).
I get the turn by the brewery. It is off camber and can spit u to the curb. Almost crashed there multiple time. All the rest are overlap or just not knowing how to control your bike crashes. That’s the problem with masters, it’s a anybody with a license can race.
That is a tough one. Great job..Thanks for the video
What cameras are you using? How did you sync them?
GoPro HERO9. Syncing is done manually in DaVinci Resolve by comparing the audio signals.
I should've raced this category. Field size was much safer/more manageable. Good race!
Yes, probably a bit safer than the cat 3 race. Sorry to hear you went down and hope your recovery is going well.
Tough one here! Cry Baby takes no hostages! Good to have you out, thanks for sharing!
Yeah, it's a tough one. I did at least have better positioning here compared to Saturday, but again, just didn't have the fitness to stay there. Well done on finishing!
Good racing man! I enjoyed watching myself in your cameras. I'm in the SS Fluorescent kit. You can check my channel out and see yourself a bit I'm sure (I too have front and rear cams). We rode next/near each other quite a bit it seems. Mid pack that was tough....everyone slowed down in the corners and didn't really need to. A few times we were able to take them near speed, but for the most part I spent too many matches catching up wheels!
Thanks, and yes, nice to be able myself in a video for a change! Totally agree about mid-pack being tough and taking the corners too slowly. I knew I should move up but just didn't have the fitness to do that and stay there.
I always thought you were a 2
I was until the start of this year then I downgraded. There’s no way I’m at cat 2 level these days. Not even sure I should be a 3 🙂
@@samfindlater ah.. always saw you had a great sprint!
Love a couple of your ideas...linking timecode to lap count, and the layout of your front and rear cams! Nice job. Something different.
Thanks!
Nicely done
that was a great lead out by Brent Hartsell💪💪!
Congrats we’ll done 👍🏼👍🏼
Nice job!
Impressive. Nice bridge. And silled the dill.
Thanks. I guess I'm not quite as washed up as I thought I was. Not yet anyway.
Depending on your age when this was taken I was starting to freak out at your heart rate at the end of the race. Solid race!
I was 47 back then. Even now I can still get to the high 180s.
