I got my self som kappa 8.1`s and are running a Pioneer VSX-LX 70. Is this amp in any way capable to handle these speakers? I mean, they sound ok in my appartment, but I got a Sub as well. Anyone with some good tips for settings? Regards from Norway
The front ported ones are USA versions , the rear ported ones are European versions. The reason is actually rather simple. Americans have way bigger living spaces on average.

I recognize my Kappa 7 in it. The problem was in the amplifier. My preamplifier and power amplifier. I had this made. They sound great! They need a good amplifier! My Citation Twenty one Preamp and Citation Twenty two Amplifier show the speakers from their best side. The Kappas need space. I repeat good front and end amp you need
Why is that almost every time someone wants to do a demo of a good set of speakers they choose crappy music...Come on now !!!!! they are towers..not bookshelf or portable speakers !!!! we want to hear some bass as well...
Maybe this music is crappy for you but this is the real thing to test hi-fi and high end speakers and machines cause this crappy music as you said have the best detail in musical instruments and vocals unlike the bass boosted things
@@Badassvidsz He wasn't talking about bass boosted stuff, he was talking about actual bass frequencies and not these songs which probably doesn't drop below 80 Hz. For example Bright hearts by imara or Hey Now by London grammar. Something that actually goes low 35 ish Hz.
Wish infinity would have stayed independent. Their old speakers before being bought out by Harmon kardon are close to perfection. I have the overture 3 and 2' s would not replace them with anything on the market today.
Leo, The Overture Series was after Harmon bought infinity, they were one of the first speakers designed by Andrew Jones however. They had good sound and were gorgeous to look at, the amp's however were the downfall of the series, most failed within a couple of years. I liked my Overtures but after I got my first Classic Infinity speaker the (RS-4B) with an Emit tweeter and never looked back. I have the these speakers in my living room, The Kappa 8 and 9 are better than anything under $2000 to this day in my opinion. If you like Infinity listen to the RS Series, Kappa, Epilson or IRS Beta or Gamma and be blown away.
From the clips I'm seeing on UA-cam on these speakers they seem to be way under powering them. I too own a set of Kappa 9.2 speakers and would not put anything less than 400 watts @ 4 ohms . Currently I'm running a classe ca 400 that's 800 watts@ 4ohms and a vtl 2.5 pre the transformation with that extra wattage is amazing and really make these speakers perform the soundstage is truly superb and detailed they are a awesome speaker and price wise would be very hard to replace with what's on today's market enjoy.
I have the Infinity Kappa 8.1 and I use a Harman/Kardon avr 80 which is clearly not enough to power those speakers, do you have any clue what the best non-expensive amp's are? And what would be a good sub ?
I use an Emotiva XPA 2 - gen 2, on my Kappa 8.2i speakers, and that is a very good match up. Using only pure audio direct, on my control-amp, and the sound is deep, dynamic, with exelent voices, and string instruments, and airy crystal highs. The Kappa 8.2i, need an amp with a lot of power, to give the sound they are capable to, and the non-expensive Emotiva XPA 2, is a good choise both for 8.1 and 8.2 Infinity Kappa speakers. A good Sub, depends on what u listen to, movies, or music, or both ? and if it is most music, what kind of music ? Jazz, classic, pop and rock, or hip-hop and bass heavy music ? I like the subwoofers from SVS
to be honest i do not use them alot, as I said i use an avr 80 which is not good enough to give the kappa's the power they need. So basiclly they are just standing in my room. I would like to listen to both music and movies, but mostly movies. I am just looking for the cheapest way to get some good sound - I dont need a sub tho, but it would be nice
Being very honest here, the words best and non-expensive really can't be used together in buying a great amp. But if you want a lineup of best for this type of speaker (the 8,9 and 8.1, 9.1 kappas), then the Krell KSA line, large Threshold amps would be the top end of a list. These amps do what these particular speakers need them to do, and that is double their power at lower ohms. The Krells do it with ease, while sounding much like tubes.
So that means I need 2 of these Amp to run the speakers? I look up Ebay the Adcom GFA-5500 selling average 400-500 not bad at all with in my $1200 budget for these speakers. Thanks-----Updated: I took your advice and bought a Adcom GFP-5500 from local Craiglist ($350.00) and just use my old Denon 5.1 as a receiver since it does have a L R main spkr pre-out. The Infinity Kappa 8 with the GFP-5500 produce beautiful music more than I expected.
@@jaybui7506 The 8.1's were mot the amp killers of the 1st series but they do love High current wattage. Good choice, always loved the Adcom 5500, and yes, they go to a whole new level Bi-amped
