A7 Blues Solo - Playing Through the Changes
Переглядів 468Рік тому
Playing the change in a blues solo. Major and minor pentatonics, dominant 7 arpeggios and other cool stuff ... A7.
Improv over Bb chord sequence
Переглядів 150Рік тому
Jamming on the PRS Custom 24 over a Bb chord sequence. Love the tone and playability of this guitar, which I've had for almost 10 years. The chords in the loop are Eb Maj7, Gm, and F - all diatonic to Bb.
A Minor Rhodes Loop Improv

Improv over an Am Rhodes style electric piano loop (inspired by Mateus Asato's "Crying in a Loop" video)
How I played that blues solo ...

A few months ago I posted a video of me playing a solo over a blues shuffle in A. In this video I show how that solo was played, note for note .. explaining the note choices, licks and phrasing employed.
Ascending Pentatonic Triplet Run
Переглядів 3102 роки тому
This is a pentatonic triplet run in D (or Bm) starting on the low E string, 5th fret, and finishing with a half step bend on the high E string on the 21st fret.
Rock Backing Track Dm Solo
Переглядів 472 роки тому
Here's a solo attempt over a Rock(ish) backing track of mine in Dm. The basic progrssion is Dm, F, Bb, C, Gm. I'm mainly using minor pentatonic together with aeolian (natural minor) licks, interspersed with a sprinkling of harmonic minor and diminished stuff. I recorded it al in Logic and used the Scuffham Amps plugins for the guitar tones.
A Dorian Solo
Переглядів 252 роки тому
Improvising over an Am - Gmaj backing track. Generally playing pentatonics in conjunction with A Dorian modal stuff. Plenty of "Boomer Bends" ... and plenty of mistakes to keep it authentic.
Cm Blues Improv
Переглядів 262 роки тому
Here's a bit of a jam / improv over a Cm slow blues backing track. Mainly minor pentatonic with some aeolian stuff thrown in now and again.
Quick Lick 3: Ascending Lick in Em
Переглядів 263 роки тому
Quick Lick No. 3: Ascending Lick in Em. The lick uses a John Sykes style sweep pattern (think "Is this Love") combined with some legato phrases emphasising the minor 9th.

Oz Noy's Tele sounds like warm syrup.
hell yes
Just too silly, thank you, brethren
Rhythm-ning?
What's the name of the tune?
I’m selling my guitar.
hahahah. me too
The Greatest!
Just beautiful playing. Taste, Technique, and Tone. A dream group!
I'm not quite sure this audience knew what they were witnessing. I would have lost my mind seeing Guthrie and his friends do this in front of me. Bravo
😂I think you might be right! They all achieved Enlightenment together as the hand of god was picking those strings.
Was Jim Campilongo in front of Guthrie Trapp?
Where is the music?
This was great!! Oz with a Tele????? Say What! LOL
4:50 Country Samba😊!!!
Such great players! And GT you are a monster player and a master of tone! I have a huge pedalboard that I will now dismantle and sell/trade for a more simple less complicated setup 😊
What amp is Oz using? That sound is punchy and has some bite. Sounds fantastic!
Fender Hotrod
Two Rock
Wow never heard of this band !!!! Love it!!!!
Is this a cover of Marty Stewart "South of the Border" or a original of some sort?
It's "Tacos de Pescado" by the wonderful Rick Holmstrom . The Bossa part is Guthrie's.
makes me smile - GT hits such sweet phrases and tones
Guthrie has become a monster! And Oz Noy is always trying to be fun and out of the box. Great performance.
Absolute monster ! Stunning playing
Nice! Was hoping some video from these NYC dates would surface! Thx for sharing!
GT is one hell of a musician.
That dog tag is spot on cool! Joy
Always such a pleasure to see true MASTERS of their crafts at work together so tightly!! Thanks for sharing!!
Amazing band! I love Guthrie’s wild humor yet precision accuracy while improvising. What a monster! Anyone know what the mystery blue pedal on the floor is? Last in chain after the Strymon Lex? Thank you for posting this excellent footage.
Strymon Cloudburst
@@steverae Thank you. 🙏
There's definitely some badasses on that stage!! Guthrie just tearing it up!!
GT takes no prisoners
- who's the jaded, disrespectful idiot with his feet on the stage? - no toe tapping, no movement, no smiles, and no clapping at the end of the song!
Hey, oops, I didn't want to but... You made me smile (!)
OMG
These guys are fricken aMAZING 🎸🎸🎸👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Guthrie is a killer up there…such a great player!
The drummer, too!
Nice love it thank you
Don't think ever seen anybody play like that. Not just speed and accuracy, but his endurance is ridiculous. Second, Plenty of burners, but not with that melodic every note means something. Sorry for getting deep. Just haven't seen anybody play like this.
My son Cole, from Arkansas, was there and sitting about the vantage of your camera at the right of stage. He let me know, here in SC, how incredible you and your band’s performance was. He is also a big fan of Oz and could not believe he got the “two-for” seeing your show. Cole is wrapping up his masters in Jazz Guitar Performance this May at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. I have sent him many of your videos.
Mr. Parks!!
Are you kidding me!!!! AMAZING! I love this dude!!! Thank you so much for your melody, phrasing, feel and soul!!! I hope you become a billionaire and all your dreams come true!!! You are so special!!!
All I can think is.....what style can Guthrie NOT play? All genres rolled into one!
Beautiful...Guthrie's picking pattern at times reminds me a lot of Pat Metheny.
My wife and I were there. Great show. Guthrie really connects with the audience.
So much more to GT than country session stuff
Thank you for sharing this, Steve!! These guys are SO good. Wow. Wow. Wow!!! Jordan and Tim are so tight. and GT is such a fun improvisor!! So much talent. Thank you, man!!
Tight as the proverbial drum!
Wow! 👍👍
Guthrie's such a monster. Can't wait until his album with Tom Bukavac drops soon... Thanks for posting this.
So tight, wish I could have have been there for the show. Thanks Steve for putting this up!
Campilongo in the front row? No pressure...
Looks like him but pretty sure not, think Jim was in argentina then. Would be rad to see him jump on with this crew though
NYC..Nice! I sang on CBS when I was 12 years old. I didn't start plàying guitar until 3 years later..
Guthrie is in the zone. Oz is really good but obviously not a song that highlights his strengths.
