    You are correct in that they do work, but need to be placed over the hottest portion of the motor, usually the end with the wires, brushless motors are made with aluminum cans (housings)for the very reason of displacing heat and the fan needs to move quite a bit of air over that area, it’s the air that pulls the heat away so configure your fan to “pull” air over the motor. Clip on heat sinks don’t work so well, just use a fan 👍👍👍. Thanks and great video

    Heat syncs don't cool things down they disperse heat so it isn't in one centralized area, and more than likely extending the life of you're motor

    Missing a few things in your test. #1 - 96f is not a hot enough temperature to be concerned about. If you were up in the 140s or higher, it would be time to consider a heat sink. #2. What is the temperature outside? Is it 75 outside? Or hotter? #3 How much airflow is available for the heat sink to dissipate heat into the air? If the heat can't go anywhere from the heat sink; if the ambient air around the motor and heat sink is 95 f and not being exchanged for cooler ambient air; it won't. #4 - You measured the temperature of the heat sink on the motor. The heat sink takes heat away from the motor, so the motor may be cooler at measurement time than the heat sink, and also you are displacing that heat over a larger area. so the will keep the core of the motor cooler because the heat is dissipated over a larger sink than the engine housing. Measure points you can reach on the motor with the heat sink on and off. Still, it's a great start!

    • @RCWorld269
      @RCWorld269 Рік тому

      I appreicate that, info, here is one thing tho, i have no idea why I explained it that way, I was just a little kid back then, I build server computer etc, now, I do understand how heat sinks work, I just sadly never got the chance to prepare a follow up video, sadly time is not on my side.

    Put the bigget heatsink you can fit with two fans bolt on top of the heatsink and then you will see a huge diffrence to lower temperatures, because now the motor in the video seems hotter. When i find money, I will buy the biggest heat sinks and fans i can fit to my rc cars. I wonder why so many years I didn't use heatsinks with fan bolt on them.
