Love all things Land Rover. Got into them many years ago with a 1994 NAS Defender90. Since then I have owned over 50 Rovers and turned my hobby into a small side business, getting Rovers in, fixing them up and selling them on! Love it! www.d90autosales.com
PART 3 Land Rover Discovery 2 | Engine Removal and Cylinder Sleeve Fix *** PART 3*** HD 1080p
www.d90autosales.com presents, part 3 where we pin the cylinder sleeves in this Land Rover Discovery 2 with a 4.6 L Gas engine. Nerve-wracking for sure to drill into an engine block but hopefully this will be well worth it! The ticking in the engine was too prevalent to ignore. Hopefully Im successful and in the next episode, we'll get it back together - will it run?!?1?

2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport L320 supercharged - every light on dashboard flashing

I have this Range Rover sport L320 and every so often it will start up and run perfectly. More often than not I get a Christmas tree of lights on the dash as this video shows. Typically when it runs fine I do have a P0695 error code that is consistent. And from what I’ve read, it could be a tiny little computer fan that sits on the cars main ECU to cool it? I’m looking for any suggestions on ho...

Part 2 of engine removal. Here we finish the up top work and go underneath to disconnect things. Then back up top to lower the engine once the mounts are removed so we can get the top 6 bolts out and Viola! She's out! And fun enough - the last minute of the video is a song I wrote with my old band Mind's I (www.mindsi.com) back in the early 2000's. - check out my site for cool Rovers! www.d90au...

I am a Land Rover enthusiast and I turned my passion in to a small car dealership call D90 Auto Sales (www.d90autosales.com) On one of my personal Rovers, a Discovery 2, I attempt to disassemble the 4.6L engine, remove the block and pin the cylinder sleeves because of multiple slipped liners. I am doing this video to help anyone who might attempt this very big and complex job. Im sure there are...

This is an overview of a vehicle I have for sale as of July 2024. This vehicle has about 155,000 miles on it… It is certainly not a perfect truck but is a good daily driver and should be fun for many years! Some of the things to note are when the engine warms up there is a ticking sound which could be a slipped cylinder sleeve or a sticky lifter. It’s an unfortunate commonality with these vehic...

What was the problem with that engine?
At the time of this reply, Oct 2024, I dont know yet. Im still assembling it and havent been able to upload the part 3 and likely part 4 yet. In part 4, I expect to be attempting to see if it runs and if the problem is sorted.
Bad engine ticking. These engines are famous for slipped cylinder sleeves and thats what I fixed. As of this writing, I dont have it back together yet but byt early Nov 2024, I will post the last video "will it run?" and "is the problem sorted?"
@@d90autosales cool! I'm going to watch the new video! I have a complete new rebuilt engine that failed......bad rocker shaft and arms....
Looks good!
Far out. Thats what mind sounds like. I thought it was bad. Thabks for a post chain video of "this is normal"
Great job man!
Never knew a bigger filter created more oil pressure? Is there an anti drain back valve on the filters? Or running low on oil? I have a 2000 Disco 2 My sister gave it to me several years ago now. When I received it. The original owner never did any maintenance on it at all. I knew this because of my initial assessment after I got it up and running. Oil leaks, bad serpentine belt and idlers. Coolant leaks. An then I was losing coolant mysteriously. After a month I finally found the culprit. Head gaskets. So I started compling parts for the repairs. Plugs, wires, a full updated head gasket set, new head bolts. New water pump and thermostat. Belts and idlers. New crank seal Before I started my task. I started spraying my engine bay with cleaner. My task took me close to a week of cleaning and reassembling. To this day, I have not loss any coolant. The truck doesn't burn any oil. Idle smooth. As the years came and went, I went through the entire drive train. Pulling front and rear differentials, cleaning the housings and fresh oil. New front drive line. Front and rear wheel bearings. New brakes and rotors. It's been 7 years now. I don't mind the work. It's just the same as my 03 Chevy maintenance items too.
I’ve heard that using a larger oil filter might cause a slight delay in oil pressure build-up during cold starts, though that’s just a rumor and may not be entirely accurate. I haven’t personally measured any before-and-after pressure differences, but since I had a box of these filters, I’ve continued using them without any issues. On the 2003 Discovery, there was a batch known for cracked oil pump gears, which often led to pressure problems. So, when I heard that these filters might help prevent pressure loss, I figured it couldn’t hurt to use them.
Great, but you did not add hashtags correctly
The start of a slipping liner
you should get into Montero's/Pajero's
everything has been covered over, including the rust.
Гарно працює двигун!!!
Sounds like loose liner
I can't wait for someone to truly figure out the Buick Tick
Sorry guys but it sounds like a sliped liner, reco engine with top hat liners the only way to fix it.
This sounds like a lifter a slipped liner has a deeper tone and it does it from start up to the time you shut it off now the lifter makes more sense because when the oil is thicker on start up, it has more oil pressure so the lifter can pump up but as the oil thins thins out the failing lifter starts to tick as a result I replace lifters and pushrods on my Land Rover and the sound completely went away. I’m a Rover mechanic at Rover North here in Oklahoma City very common issue to see in the especially 03 and 04 as well as the slipping liner, but slipping liners, has a deeper tone and does it all the timeon start up till the time you turn it off
Replace , lifters, cam and still there
Sorry not i , was the mechanic
Had this problem for 50.000klms now
2004, 4lt
Very nice, I have an 02, still working on it 😢 you got to post more and longer👍
Nice
Mine does the same thing. Did you ever figure out what it was?
I sold the truck but I believe this to have been just a ticking lifter. I recently heard a slipped sleeve and the sound it makes is way deeper of a tone.
🙌 'promo sm'
you ever figure out if this was slipped liners?
No. I ended up selling it this way. I believe it to have been a ticking lifter.
Nice
Hallo, I‘m a Range Rover Classic Enthusiast from Switzerland. For How much Dollars//swiss francs Are you selling the Range Rover?!
Sorry mate - just sold it yesterday, 15 Feb 2023
Thanks for sharing. Mine sounds the same what did you find was the issue or is this typical?
Try using conventional thicker oil . The rover engine is a push rod flat tappet designed in late 60’s. I use 10w40 Castrol GTX conventional. No ticking at all ! The previous owner of my truck thought he was doing the truck a favor by using full synthetic 5w30🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ truck was pissing oil and ticking loud . Always conventional guys.

Mine is doing the same thing. I'm using the Rotella 15w40 conventional oil, still the noise is there. I took it to my Rover mechanic and asked if he thought it was cylinder sleeves he said no because cylinder sleeves would sound like that the whole time, not just when warm. He recommended getting Oil Pressure gauge on it check for sufficient pressure. That'll be next attempt. Very interested to see if you've solved it.
Did you get it sotuated?
@@professionalpiercer nope. But I’m pretty sure it’s the rocker arms. The problem with this is that attempting to solve this will require complete disassembly and reassembly of the entire intake to get to the valve covers… and I’m not looking forward to it. Not my everyday driver vehicle so I’ve been postponing
@Sam Shea do you even think it HAS TO BE FIXED? Funny enough, the sleeves on this one I have were all done, including the rocker arms. The ticking is still there.
@@professionalpiercer you know, I’ve had the very same thought. It seems to run fine, I dunno. Again talked to my mechanic friend about it and he said this, “ that tapping is metal on metal somewhere. Eventually that contact over time will weaken one of the parts and it will break. You don’t want a broken rocker arm bouncing around inside the valve cover. That’s even more damage.”
I have one does the exact same thing!
Did you ever get this sorted out? My ‘03 just started doing the exact same thing.
Did y’all figure out what it is?
Mine had a knocking/ticking, it was due to a loose stud on the manifold to exhaust tube, check if you have any leak, I was able to feel the air escaping from the connection after tightening the bolt the ticking was reduced a lot, not completely gone but much quieter.
I’ve been all over for exhaust leaks and fixed two of them. They make noise as soon as the engine starts. This tapping doesn’t occur until I hit about 165 degrees.
@@samshea813figure it out?
I’m experiencing this now. When it’s cold start and for a while until it warms up. Nothing ! Nice and quiet. When it gets warm it starts to tick. Yours sounds just like mine and it seems to be coming from the same area toward the top there.
hello. i have the same problem like u told. do u know what is it ? i use 10w40 castrol magnatec. is that sounds come for bad oil or not ?
No solution but its one of these two items: 1) Slipped Cylinder sleeve(s). or 2) failed lifter(s). Theres an off chance that the oil pump is failing and thus not enough oil to the valve train but you would have a low pressure indicator on your dash board. Extremely common on these Disco V8's - especially 2003-2004
did you fix yours?@@Levan_Chitauri
