Hi, just a word of advice from an experienced sharpener. Watch this video again for yourself, the part with the leather stropping. Notice that at the end of your stropping strokes you are rotating your wrists backwards. Try not to rotate in anyway as this causes micro rounding of the cutting edge of the blade. You will have better results if you keep your wrists locked and the lightly “take-off” like an aircraft near the end of the stroke. A lot can be learnt from watching some of Outdoor55’s UA-cam videos.

Is it normal for my first coat of french polish to look as if I didn't really apply any polish? It had like a slight gloss to it so I'm assuming it'll get shinier with layers?

not bad for a version one. Version two needs a dial-in to cut width. But we know festool doesn't modify their tools for at least 20 years so it's take it or leave it and I will leave it. Can you swap in a zero clearance plate?
