My apt complex won't allow working on vehicles at all.
How do you get the air out?
Man I need you here 😊
do you still have it? i want one to put back in lol.
Ha, yes I do. And no I’m not parting with it
I like 👍
Hey I have a 2015 suburban that came with no fog lights. Bought fog lights and got them installed and I bought a factory fog light switch and it doesn’t work.. in your video you said you have to program something, do you know anything about that? Thanks
Requires programming the body control module and addition of wiring in the factory harness to the main fuse block under the hood. I’ve seen folks do it on the pickups, but not the SUVs
I just bought this exact truck. Could you do a video or reach out to me on how to change the cigarette light plug bezel thats in front of the center console just below the dash. Thank you.
Good video. I have the exact same issue with my 2017. Tried a variation of your solution. Unfortunately, it didn't work, so I just unhooked the speaker. Problem solved, and I don't even notice the speaker gone. Thanks. 🙂
I have a 4l60 e from 2009. I just use old cooler line, hook that up to passenger side top radiator. That’s the drain. Dump your pan, filter, clean. Add tranny fluid from pan loss. Dump fresh fluid into dipstick tube. Start engine, monitor gallon by gallon. I’m assuming you have no dipstick?
Thanks for sharing your install video. I ended up buying some longer rubber transmission hose and mounted the catch can in the empty battery tray area on the driver's side of my 2017 Yukon. Added some plastic loom over the lines and it really looks like a factory install. I just did not like the idea of the lines in the way of the oil fill cap on the valve cover. Even with the longer lines the catch can still works like it should. Thanks for sharing your detailed video. Catch cans are a must on these direct injection engines without added injectors spraying fuel over the intake valves. Bad engineering but installing a catch can helps this carbon buildup problem dramatically.
Thank you for your videos. I have a 2015 Burb w/ 108K and they have been very helpful. Thanks to your video, I changed the fluid in my rear differential this week. I'm the original owner and this was the first time my dif was serviced. My bolts had lock tight on them too.
Thanks for the comment! I was wondering if this was from the factory.
@@smokingoatgarage If you're ever interested in putting ambient lighting in your Burb let me know, I put it in the doors and foot wells of my 2015 Burb LTZ and it turned out looking very factory-like.
I have a 2020 suburban that I pull a camper with. This would be a great modification.. Where did you buy the conversion kit? And which one was it?
Here is a link to view this product on Amazon: amzn.to/3EyfuVA
Awesome videos! How many miles does your Burb have?
I’m at 92k
Very small catch can. But. On a low mileage engine, it should be good.
Are you going to do a follow up video of what all your catch can collected?
What did that setup cost you ? Thanks
Just ordered mine from corsa it’s about 160$ shipped
Glad to see this video. I travel and sleep in the back of my Yukon XL. I’m 6’2” and can’t completely sit up in the back to get dressed or watch movies. I just bought the Yukon and was searching for videos on doing this. Your explanation was good enough to help me remove this. Thank you.
And in case someone was wondering, I am removing the second and third row seats and laying down some plywood and supports for a bed platform.
Will this work for my 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Lt?
It should, they’re all built the same
Will this also work on a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Lt?
Thanks for making and sharing this great video. However, I really didn't understand the use of the bridging hose with a valve at time mark 1:35. If the valve there is open pressurized fresh fluid would be meeting pressurized drain hose and I think the fresh fluid would simply drain along with the old fluid. Please explain what I'm missing. Thanks.
Anyone have thoughts on how to finish the area when the third row is down to protect the hinges?
THANK YOU! I've been trying to find this info for a long time!
It works on a 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 2WD 8l90 transmission. Seems to lower temperature somewhat.
This is what I'm using.
Great Vid . getting ready to do this to my 2018 Silverado 1500 LT. Waiting for part and gasket to come in. Was also enjoying Ann & Nancy Wilson in the background.. Thank you....
Pretty slick fluid transfer set up. Thanks for sharing.
No problem 👍
Yes!!!! This is amazing. I added another Hayden transmission cooler to my 09 Tahoe and the transmission sits around 140-150F. Best mod ever!
Will that contraption you made work with beer?
Hot Flush is the wave! Great video.
How much does it cost? And can you do it till 2018 Chevy Tahoe premier
You can buy the oil here <www.amsoil.com/c/products/1/?zo=520048 I got 14 qts for the full fluid exhange
Just curious, I found this web site about the 6LE80 and 6LE90 transmissions "If you do not have an external transmission cooler, the cooler line flow goes as follows: lower cooler line > lower radiator port > upper radiator port > back to upper transmission line." But you said that the lower line was the out of the transmission and the upper line is the in.
Check out 12:40 in the video. The upper fitting is the outlet from the trans , lower is the inlet. This was confirmed during the process to make sure I hooked up the exchange system correctly. It also makes sense with the direction of the check ball on the thermostat delete. Also I know earlier models had the cooler in the radiator, but these trucks actually run through the A/C condenser, which is odd.
Nice video, I will try on mine
My understanding is this mod helps torque convertor longevity. On these transmissions if the convertor goes up it can take out the entire transmission.
You are correct. It appears the weak link in these units is the torque converter clutch. I have not heard the specific mechanism that causes it to fail, but heat is the enemy of any hydraulic system and this is an easy mod to reduce the temperature.
@@smokingoatgarage There's a great explanation of why they're a weak link on Sonnax's website.
I have 2020 Suburban that I mostly use for chauffeur services. I purchased the vehicle brand new. It has 35k miles on it. When do you think I should do a tranny flush? Or a tranny drain? Which do you prefer?
👍👍👍👍 thanks
is it worth it and what is the main purpose aside from cooler temp and trans life span?
Was definitely worth it. The cost and time invested was minimal to reduce the trans temp. Max I see now is 165 where I was near 200 before. Keeping the trans fluid cool will extend the life of the internals, bar none
Can you do a video of the hatch installation?
20% drop in temp.
What was your max temp ?
It’s now June. Seeing ambient temperature of 85 F. Idling in traffic my max trans temp is around 180 F. Once I get going it drops to high 160s
How much of a temperature difference does it make ?
Consistently >20 degrees drop.
Thanks for making and sharing this video! I made a similar setup based on this. For anyone looking to recreate this, the only recommendation I'd make is to make sure the transmission outlet port lines can handle the pressure and heat of the fluid. I'm not sure what the exact numbers are, but I literally exploded the clear hose I had for my outlet line while doing this to my 2020 Silverado 6L80 (thankfully it was in my friend's driveway and not in my garage). I ended up just using some compressor hose which was overkill, but it worked well.
I didn’t do it super hot so the standard vinyl hose worked well.
About how much gear lube did it take? Getting ready to order some and want to have enough.
The owners manual has the capacities. I followed that and had an extra quart on hand just for good measure.
thats why i watched your video..how difficult is it to include how much u used????@@smokingoatgarage
Can you explain a bit more on how you made the pump and the size of the hose and connectors please?
Interesting vid. Is this the first time doing this on this vehicle and what's the mileage and were there any problems after?
No problems after. I did this service after purchasing the vehicle so I can only guess it was never done before.
One thing to maybe note is in the owners manual has it different levels for 1500 truck, heavy duty and burban
Why would you want to delete the thermostat. And If you do what would be the temperature ? Ty.
These transmissions run hot and many believe heat destroys them. There are many videos on the STL010 sure cool conversion.
I’ve noticed a 40 degree F drop on temperature vs before the thermostat delete. The thermostat blocks fluid from entering the cooler until the temp reaches 190F. Now I’m in the 140-150 range after reaching steady state.
Now why in the hell would GM design the cooler not to operate until 190? There must be a good reason for that…
Also, completely removing the thermostat means your trans will take forever (maybe never on trips around town) to reach operating temp in cold areas like mine, I have to think that’s not ideal.
@@basicuser54 the reason for that is to burn off condensation inside the transmission just like the engine temp. Otherwise, you will have a rust starting on the internal components.
Is one gallon enough if I’m just dropping the pan and changing the fluid? Not flushing
I want to say there is about 5 quarts in the pan, but I did not measure. I got 14 quarts for the whole exchange.
do you have a link to the plate you used?

Red lock tight on a diff cover!! Why would previous owner do that! Amsoil has found a lifetime customer in you. I just use Mobil 75W-90. Change it enough where brand won’t really matter. Hopefully quality of 2020 is as good as 2003! Mine runs great
Thank you. Yes, I’ve been an Amsoil dealer for 20 years or so. Has always performed superb for me.
Nice setup. Not sure what that special aluminum block with nipples is for. Can’t you just remove existing hoses and connect to them? I’ve thought about making a system like that but I have just as much luck draining 1-2 quarts turning the car off filling 1-2 quarts etc using existing lines. You mentioned Toyota. I tap into the output line coming out of the external cooler in front of the drivers wheel. Works great and exchanges all the fluid after three or four times
Thanks for the comment. I built this exchange kit for my Toyota vehicles where I can tap into the cooler lines directly because Toyota uses more conventional hose barbs. The Chevy uses a jiffy tite connector that is harder to adapt to. That’s where the extra block came in. I drop the pan and change that fluid, then perform the exchange to minimize cross contamination of old and new trans fluid. Hope this helps!
